Wargaming is removing even more premium tanks. This time it's the British Sexton I, Soviet SU-85I, American RAM II, and the German Pz.Kpfw. IV Schmalturm. The last day they'll be in the in-game tech tree is when the 9.8 patch is released, and then a few weeks later they'll disappear from the premium store altogether. I don't mind the Sexton I and the SU-85I disappearing, but the Schmalturm and RAM II had some good traits.

Really not getting why Wargaming is all of a sudden so insistent upon getting rid of so many of their premium tanks, I thought that was their main source of income aside from the weekend sales.

An update on the game Armored Warfare: their Early Access beta has been released. It's not open-public yet, but if you signed up for the early access phase or paid for the Founder's Pack you should be able to play online from May 27th to June 3rd.

Tried to get back into this again on a whim. Still not a huge fan of the healthbars but it's fun.

I've only spent time in the Soviet tanks so far though. I wish the star thingies weren't exclusive to a tank. I could have gotten to Tier 3 by now if I wasn't limited to my T-26's points.

Oh really when?

"Star thingies"? You mean experience? lol

You can use gold to convert the experience you got from any of your elite tanks. That's why World of Tanks is not really a pay-to-win game. Even if you spent a lot of money, the best you can get is get premium tanks, get a premium account, get gold, and get credits. But you still don't have the experience points. Both "Free XP" which can be directly used to research on any tank, and the exclusive XP of each tank, which are used for researching modules for itself as well as being able to be converted to Free XP once the tank is elite and you have the gold.

I'm reading this because it's interesting. I think. Whiskey, Tango, Foxtrot, over.

I barely know what any of that is. I've just been futzing about trying to buy the biggest guns possible for my tank.

lol "Elite tank" just meant it's fully researched, i.e. all the modules for that particular tank have been unlocked. Gold stars are free XP while silver stars are XP exclusive to the tank you used in the game.

Some nice games after a while, particularly during this weekend or so. Won't make up for my downward plunge, but it's nice to take note of them for a change:

Platooned with felipecamilo (tier 5 Churchill grind):

T67, Arctic Region, Ace Tanker.

T67, Malinovka.

T67, Swamp.

BDR, Fisherman's Bay.

T67, Fjords.

Platoon with Solono (Tier 7s finishing the Medium missions LOL)

Comet, Lakeville.

Comet, Erlenberg.

Platoon with Kraft (pref 6s with 10s mixed in):

Object 140, Arctic Region.

Object 140, Mountain Pass.

Object 140, El-Halluf.

IS-6, Stalingrad.

Take note, all of this is in the wake of a destructive downward spiral I experienced last week, so suffice to say I was happy with the results I had this time around.

[up][up][up] The largest caliber is usually the best one in terms of individual shell damage...But factor in armor penetration and rate of fire and we have an YMWV debate.

For instance, the KV-1 can use an powerful 122mm howitzer or a 85mm cannon that has better penetration and fires nearly twice as fast. Guess who uses which and maintains a (single) Red Star of Excellence with it?

Hmm, I researched all the thingies for my tank so far but it's not elite.

I'm sitting on 1500 little silver stars.

Fully researched also means you unlock the next tank. So for the T-26, you must also be able to not just equip all the modules for it, but also buy the T-46.

I figured that out and got me T-46.

I get the feeling it's gonna be kinda grind intensive going forward from here. I don't suppose there's any way to just earn gold is there? I have no monies.

LOL You should have played last month, for three victories per day (and getting in the top 10 of your team) you could have gotten 30 gold (10 gold for each win).

Anyway, the grind at lower tiers isn't that bad, and in some cases sticking to tier 5 to 6 is usually the best for some players. The real grindfest are the higher tiers (for obvious reasons).

BTW don't get attached to the T-26 or T-46. There are much better tanks in the game that can also rake in much more cash at the same Tier, even without a premium account. The best non-premium moneymakers overall though are in Tiers 5 and 6. Gets expensive afterwards, and Tiers 9 and 10 generally result in a negative net income, even if you had a decent battle.

I just figured the T-46 was the fastest route to my beloved T-34.

I've still got ass tons of points for the starter tank, should I go back and try a different tree?

Er the T-46 goes to the T-28, which then goes to the KV-1.

It's the BT-2 and BT-7 that goes to the T-34...

EDIT: Nevermind, forgot that they linked the T-50 to it anyway.

It also goes T-46 -> T-50 -> T-34.

I figured I'd pick up the KV-1 on the way.

[up][up][up]Nah, stick to it. Avoid the A-20 though, that thing is a HORRIBLE grind, especially with only stock parts.

BTW a tech tree worth checking out would be the one leading up to the KV-1 and beyond. Most of the tanks in that tree are quite decent, and even the T-28 with it's huge, paper-thin armor is a tolerable grind, provided you make sure to stay mobile and equip the 57mm cannon as soon as you can.

A runner up would be the tree leading to the American M4 Sherman. It's successor the M 4 E 2 Sherman Jumbo happens to be one of my favorite tanks in the game due to it's excellent frontal armor and fast-firing, accurate cannons.

Avoid the French tech tree though... it's full of terrible duds and poorly designed tanks in the low tiers. The Chinese tree is the opposite: mediocre tanks in the lower tiers, but generally poor tanks from Tier 5 and beyond. Their variants of the T-34 and T-34-85 somehow happens to be worse than the Soviet version all because of it's slightly poorer accuracy and terrible gun depression.

EDIT: Whoa, you guys are some fast ninjas!

He's right about the French tanks, though their higher-tier autoloaders can be horrifying and their five-and-up scouts are wonderful. Pretty hellish getting there, though.

American medium line is good before and after tier 4; the M3 Lee will make you hate life. Also, I recommend getting into the heavy line through the mediums: You can get the tier-7 T29 via the tier-6 Sherman Jumbo. (Word of advice, though: Don't bother playing the T29 until you've unlocked it's 90mm. Playing that thing with a 76mm is painful.

Deutschbags have some fantastic guns on some pretty okay tanks. I love my Pz III/IV more than I can adequately express; thing's a wonderful little hellion.

Don't know much about the others, sadly.

Should've checked the list.

It is! Also, personal recommendation: Go through the T-28 before you get to the T-34, so you'll already have it's 57mm.

Should've checked the list.

Counterpoint: Do NOT enter American heavies through the mediums. The T1 heavy is great, the M6 is decent, and unless you get the T20 or stockpile free exp before getting the T29 through the medium line, you'll be stck with the 76mm gun on the T29, which is super horrible at that tier.
