@Spain: What's Eternal September in this context? I only know it with regard to Ye Olde Internete Slange.
"Proto-Indo-European makes the damnedest words related. It's great. It's the Kevin Bacon of etymology." ~MadrugadaMy name.

Having NSFW ads makes entire site NSFW, effectively a porn site. This greatly decreases potential audience and hampers site growth. Due to TV Trope's site type, censorship preferable.
Helpful Scripts and Stylesheets here.In this context I think it actually means Eternal November.
Currently taking a break from the site. See my user page for more information.Would be nice if we could get some educational foundations or college/universities to kick in some donations. *
@Stormtroper: The section about no alcohol or drug use means that all tropes or works involving those would get cut. See?
Expergiscēre cras, medior quam hodie. (Awaken tomorrow, better than today.)...That's what I get for identifying people by their avatars.
"Proto-Indo-European makes the damnedest words related. It's great. It's the Kevin Bacon of etymology." ~MadrugadaBurst Media also doesn't allow adult content. Bravenet doesn't even list its ToS, presumably unless you apply.

survival of the tight-lippedHow many Universities would want to donate to TV Tropes?.....
Dumbo^^^^ Universities wouldprobably also prefer to donate to sites that don't have two dozen different pages about titties, so we are back to square one.

If TV Tropes were to gain university support, I imagine we'd have to look more academic, and that's just as boring.
"Proto-Indo-European makes the damnedest words related. It's great. It's the Kevin Bacon of etymology." ~MadrugadaWe don't have many tropes centered on alcohol or drugs. Not nearly as many as those based on sex.
The thing about works with these is a good point, though.
And that's how I ended up in the wardrobe. It Just Bugs Me!Which would mean bye-bye to innocent things like Alcohol Is Poison, or, ironically, Frothy Mugs of Water.
"Proto-Indo-European makes the damnedest words related. It's great. It's the Kevin Bacon of etymology." ~MadrugadaThe real question is, how seriously are these various ad servers enforce their rules? Of course they must write it down, obligatorily, but even for Google, it took years to get us, for smaller companies, it might be even more.

Seriously, we ought to be able to talk about alcohol and drugs as long as we aren't promoting their use. Seems like we ought to be aiming for PG-13 here, not G.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Well, I donated, again.
If we can find significant donor, such as institution of education, that excellent. Anyone have any specific likely ideas for such source?
Helpful Scripts and Stylesheets here. That's not our decision, though.
I spread my wings and I learn how to fly....MediaTrust * doesn't explicitly say "no drugs, alcohol, or sex", but it does forbid "obscene" content. What does "obscene" mean, specifically?

survival of the tight-lippedThat they won't tell us, but they'll know it when they see it.
"Proto-Indo-European makes the damnedest words related. It's great. It's the Kevin Bacon of etymology." ~MadrugadaGoing by the Supreme Court's definition, very little is obscene.
Currently taking a break from the site. See my user page for more information. As long as we have to say f*ck instead of fuck, we are good. But we should avoid actually deleting our content at all costs.
I doubt a service that describes content merely with "obscene" or any one word will be using it in a broad sense.

And that's how I ended up in the wardrobe. It Just Bugs Me!Really must stay out of discussions, but I'll say, before going dark, that we have avenues to attempt before going on charity. Anyway, donations drives have a finite period of effectiveness, and we need a long term solution.
I've got applications in to some other ad networks. They all say they'll respond within 72 hours.
We have been "leveling up" at Google for 5 years, so there is little chance another network will offer us financial terms as good as we've had with them, at least to start. More details needed though, and I don't see any good ad networks that have significantly different terms of service from theirs. Like I say, more data needed.
Assuming that the best bet will be to toe the Google line, I need to be focusing on identifying what we we'll need to do that thing.
Goal: Clear, Concise and WittyAmazon ads are directing me to a page everytime is simply roll over them! It's getting annoying.

survival of the tight-lipped
Might as well kill off the site with those restrictions.
Does it pay good though?
