Wonder if there's a way to solve the anti-aliasing problem with Javascript?

You could write an upscaler using the canvas tag, but that would require pixel-by-pixel processing... Chrome and Opera at least should be able to handle it, though.

your best bet is to use ie6, internet explorer collection works with most versions of windows, you can get it here:

Oh—wow... found this by well...

Anyways. There has been a group that has tried to work on updating the viewer of Kid Radd to work in more modern browsers. There was even a set of fan continued episodes of the series that were also to appear in this set.

This was originally suppose to be set up in 2007.

The issue was, every release date given something horrible happened to the person maintaining the project (which was me for the most part).

So well—there has kind of been a Kid Radd Kurse to get the comic back online in a viewable format.

The first person officially hit by it was Silver Jelly. Who while working on a Kid Radd themed comic, Doctor Blocks got a bad case of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.

Szabo the person originally running the fan project ended up just disappearing. Nobody really knows where.

Lets see, in 2007, I had one release date that I got water poisoning. Then it was moved back a few months only to find that I got so dehydrated that the paramedics thought I had pneumonia. Trust me, both of those are really painful. I would not wish them on anybody.

In 2008, I ended up losing my house due to a discussion with a land lord where apparently I had done something horrible. Even though it was mostly she just started to scream at me over the cordless phone so loud that other residents from across the building thought she was in the same room as me.

Set another release date for July 1st 2009... which my computer promptly exploded about a week or so before. With three laptops just dying in the two months prior.

There was another release date in September 2009... but in August 2009, a medication that I was on half the proper dosage for had my body decide that it could not handle it, and I was taking on drug over dose symptoms that generally make most ER Doctors cringe when I describe them.

Another release date was set for January 1st 2010. I admit I was running late—but it really did not help I got hypothermia on new years eve, and was out of action for about three months.

The next one was set for July 15th 2010... which everybody working on the project had the "h" button in their keyboard short circuit at the same time. I also ended up with a mental health emergency team at my door thinking I needed to be committed. With the people on the ward I was locked up on mostly puzzled as to why I was there. They did not see me as crazy, and after two weeks of me refusing medication and seeming relatively normal and healthy I was discharged.

I have mostly set the next release date for Decembre 21st 2012. Mostly as well—kind of a dare for the Kid Radd Kurse to be what causes the end of the world. As well—I just want to dare it.

I mean—so much other stuff seems to have just coincidently happened right next to the release dates—which it appears since putting that release date tentatively off for not witnessed any life threatening hazards.

As per the issues on the viewer itself (blurring, not working in various comics, etc.):

Yeah, the issues are long standing and known. I kind of brought these issues up about the design back when the comic was still running.

They mostly appear to stem from the fact that it is a table based design put inside frames. There was no CSS to speak of. The ECM Ascript that was used, was prone to stop working properly from the start. Most of the current issues come from the image swap code malfunctioning or the sprites blurring.

Another user, Muddasheep started up a rudimentary Dan-o-vision viewer. The Mudda-o-vision viewer.

No idea what happened there.

There was the Kid Rad Player was of doing Dan-o-vision that Tim Tylor did.

Then well—the best viewer done so far—which actually did a very good job of overcoming the Blurring that browsers tend to do, was done by Jessie The Echidna (the same person who did KRIME BTW, the fan made version of the "original" Kid Radd game).

It was very well done, got past the blurring issue—parsed the comic based on input from JSON files to present the page. Shi discontinued that for the same reason shi discontinued KRIME... a few small issues in the product just annoyed hir to no end that shi was spending more time trying to get those out than doing any real development.

Oh right—and the "h" key on hir keyboard shorted out as well. Shi had a spare. I however, did not.

It was kind of nice to see one comic do stuff with the medium we started to call Dan-o-vision (which was originally a throw away name, because saying, "comics done in the style of Kid Radd" was a mouthful—it just kind of caught on). It really was.

There was a few nice suggestions that I kind of took on—as well, I was the unofficial person to take it over. As the original author became increasingly hard to contact. For a while it became that only I could contact him—and well, update him... but even then, even I was unable to get a hold of him. Dan R. Miller and Dave Miller both kind of disappeared it seemed. Emails started bouncing.

Essentially I started touting myself as the person who took over Star Trek for how the series was going (trust me—that is exactly how I expect any readers to have seen me). Though, there was a few new material items I kind of planned.

Like something that kind of because a joke on the IRC channel, about Kobayashi being a reverse trap. Long story short, an argument over a piece of sprite work I did on Radd evolved into me doing Kobayashi doing a "smexy no Koba" type Naruto pose. Which with this continuation kind of having Kobayashi get pregnant at one point (yeah, playing on that Ho Yay stuff with a world where mpreg seems like it MIGHT be possible)... it kind of just got easier to think of Koba as a really stupid reverse trap (or really clever?).

The idea in the continuation had a few new villains (like one Uncle Gnarl from a Mega Man X parody... which turned out to be the most loved fan made character ever created) as well as somehow GI Guy turned into somebody that just would not die. That line mostly only started due to the desire to revive Radd 2... and just... went worse from there. It kind of works as it kind of allows to make fun of a very common video game trope.

I dunno—if somebody else is able to get this comic up, running, in an up to date viewer and all that stuff, I would be more than happy to see it. As well, looking at the laptop this one replaced—it was also near exploding levels this last pay cheque. I just hope that you are not hurt by the Kid Radd Kurse.

To be funny, most of us only really joked about how Dan had gotten so hard to contact that his site was most likely no longer online. Jessie The Echidna said that he viewed it last night so I should not worry. I mostly just checked it out to find a specific comic panel (there is a way to link to those btw: Comic\d?\d?\d.html#p\d)... only to see that AT&T was not showing his website anymore.

That was possibly one of the least funny ironic moments of my life ever.

Again—I would love to see an updated viewer somewhere to at least archive the current 16bit comic somewhere—permitting that the Kid Radd Kurse does not affect them. (yeah, me and Jessie The Echidna kind of found out that those graphics presented in the comic would never work on an NES system. What with only allowing seven 8x8 sprites per scan line—each character has about four to six per scanline).

Happy hunting.

Just to put this out there, the original kidradd.com site is saved (as best I can tell) in its entirety by archive.org here: http://web.archive.org/web/20070929181745/http://www.kidradd.com/

I was even able to download the comic archive from there. So if all the current mirrors somehow vanish and you want to snag KR, archive.org is a working option.

Does anyone know how to get in contact with the creator? We need to let him know somehow that, if nothing else, we love his work.

Well, nearly three years later, I'm glad to see the tapes are still circulating. The Kid Radd page has several decent mirrors listed.

I've recently convinced a couple friends to start reading the comic. Turns out describing it as "Wreck It Ralph meets Homestuck" is a good way to catch people's interest. wink

It's aged well.
