[up][up]Same, and I think it's her accent. That said, once you have high-level sniper rifles, the differences between the snipers become more or less meaningless.

Though I avoided using Alicia because I wasn't wild about the romance arc and I liked a lot of the other scouts better.

Unfortunately, not using one of the mains penalises you a CP every turn. I could get behind VC 2 for letting you pick your captain units.

I definitely always deploy Alicia, Rosie, and Largo. I just don't actually activate them much. I don't really like Alicia, Rosie has the problem of not being Lynn, and Largo has the problem of being a lancer.

Just because you deploy them doesn't mean you have to use them.

Details on the Centurion and its crew

The Centurion is the Cruiser the main characters use to get around and it provides support in battle via the Ship Order option in Command Mode. Ship Orders are limited and cannot be recovered during battle, however the number of uses can be increased through R&D. There are four available Ship Orders:

  • Radar which is used to display undiscovered enemies and enemies that have disappeared from view in a certain range in Command Mode. This one is unlocked from the start.
  • Bombardment which orders the ship to open fire on a certain area
  • Relief Unit, heals HP of your units and evacuates anyone who's near death.
  • Vehicle Emergency Repair, revives and redeploys any vehicle destroyed during battle

Though I'm kind of surprised at the lack of large turreted cannons, given that it's referred to as a cruiser.

Hmm... does it count as foreshadowing that Faldio uses a sniper rifle to injure Alicia and trigger her Valkyria state, and that come chapter 15b, snipers are one of the most effective ways to take down Selvaria? (she goes down to two hits from the GSR 10R and three from most non-royal sniper rifles)

At the very least, it seems tropeable, but I'm trying to avoid Square Peg Round Trope

I found the gatling turret on the Shamrock to be the best way to kill her, as she absolutely CAN kill a sniper on a counter-attack. Ruhm is just that accurate.

Which might also count as ironic, since the playable version of Selvaria has Tank Hater.

Ah, but she has a finite counter-attack range and the back of Ghirlandaio is huge.

A sniper and a tank (ideally Shamrock due to its superior movement) make a great team to take Selvaria down. Get Shamrock on one side and a sniper halfway across the back or so (or a pair of them) and alternate fire - she intercepts Shamrock but can't hurt it -> fire HE or something -> activate sniper and shoot her in the back -> activate Shamrock and do something to make her turn around -> activate sniper and shoot her in the back of the head again.

I find it easier to wedge her between two tanks and abuse the A.I.s unwillingness to move while under interception fire.

I just abused snipers myself, as stated the counter has finite range, and snipers absolutely face wreck every thing if they can land a crit.

Not sure it's so much foreshadowing as just snipers in general are great against enemy infantry since like forever.

they also work as improvised anti-tank if you can get a shot on the radiator.

The burst rifles in later games can even one shot them.

So, I've been thinking about something.

I'm not sure Baldren Gassernarlis as brutal as everyone says he is? I think the challenge comes from him being a suddenly powerful unit that you have to use tactics to beat, rather than brute force like 95% of every other enemy in the game.

There was that anti-tank rifle you could get from one of the Edi Detachment missions I think.

Good times once I unlocked that.

[up][up][up]He dodges, intercepts, and moves like Selvaria, he's functionally immune to interception fire, he can pop your tank in one shot, and you face him for the first time in April. At that point, you're not going to have many of the most effective units against him unless you're on NG+. Due to that last factor, the rematch is actually easier, since you'll have a decent chance of having Fencers and Snipers to help level the playing field.

Baldren has a lot more weaknesses than you'd think. The only problem is that up to this point, the only enemy you've really been outmatched by is Dirk and the V2 units, so you don't know how to deal with a unit like this.

So a demo for VC 4 got released today on the Japanese PS 4 Store (which reminded me that we are less than a month away from its Japanese release). It lets you play the first two chapters of the game and a challenge map focused on the new grenadier class.

[up][up][up]What significant weaknesses does he have? Especially given that unless you're on a new game plus, you can't really farm certificates until later in the game (at that point in the game, you just have to hope that one Randomly Drops for a unit in the class you need to promote during a story mission), so it's easily possible that you simply won't have access to certain non-base classes.

[up]I think those "cat ears" are periscope sights. Also, I still can't get over how incredibly much the Hafen resembles the Sherman.

I thought air intakes myself, but I can see them as periscopes too.... I just find it a cutseyed up sherman and I love it.

Some gameplay updates though, limited ammo weapons now regenerate ammo, which is nice, it means your lancers aren't usless 3 shots into the mission, they just can't make more then 3 shots a turn, and you can get super friendly with the grenades (although these guys have had there range nerfed to compensate)

The tank uses 1CP by default, but honestly with the regenerating ammo, it really should use two, because..... holy shit is that mortar on it OP.

Oh and grenediers are very fun, there damage is only about that of a bullet, but they can do interception fire regardless of how much ammo they have, which means if you park her in a good place the entire enemy turn is punctuated by "Pffft.... reeeeee" as the grenades screech through the air like a stuka.

Lancers and tanks have always regenerated one ammo per turn (or all if in base camp) do they regenerate more quickly now?

Tanks rarely, if ever, have prominent air intakes, though most tanks have ventilation above the engine deck, though that has more to do with cooling than air supply.
