I haven't quite caught up with you guys, I'm at the episode when Scooby and Velma have to team up with the Sheriff to solve the mystery and I'm loving the jokes in this episode. Villain profiling, three beautiful daughters who don't speak.

Man, as long as jokes like this are apparent I can overlook some flaws.

Honestly, though, it's just confusing. I mean, there's so many directions you could go with Daphne's character—have her feel useless and try to gain some sort of helpful skills! Or Take a Level in Badass gradually to get out of the Distressed Damsel trope!*

But nope. She's completely functionless and only around to facilitate romance. Hell, I was hoping that the episodes where she's gone would indicate what she contributes, but instead her absence makes Fred and Velma dumb (for some reason) and this is fixed by adding Hot Dog Water. So if she is contributing something, it's a something that can be done by damn near anyone.

Velma...I feel like we're told a lot that she's got a superiority complex, but we're not really shown it except in the Saw homage episode. Mostly she just angsts about how things with Shaggy are going. Oh, and keeps secrets from the rest of the group even after doing that once broke them all up and damn near doomed Crystal Cove. She has skills in research, so at least she's functional, but just barely.

It doesn't help that we don't really know why Daphne's into Fred or Velma into Shaggy. It all seems fairly arbitrary.

Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.

[up] You mean Daphne right?

I really don't mind it,especially since it does add more good drama in the climax of the first season and nicely develops Fred at the beginning of the second. This isn't Korra style shipping here at all

The only character the writers seem to have forgotten in these past episodes is Shaggy,I swear he talked about more than food last season. Now he's back to just food.

Still the best Scooby Doo since Witches Ghost though.

[up]Fixed, thanks.

I don't know what you mean by Korra-style shipping. I mean, I've seen the show, and I honestly think the shipping was handled better there, because everyone involved in that aspect of the plot had personalities aside from it (besides maybe Asami.)

[up][up]You mean Zombie Island, yes?

And what I've found interesting is how completely the Velma/Shaggy thing has been dropped this season. We've gotten more fuel for Velma/HDW this year honestly. Also, this last episode in particular was interesting because it felt a lot more like a season one episode: separate mystery, small-but-fun callbacks to the original series, and some seriously crazy stuff happening in the Myth Arc.

[up]I've had this discussion before, and won't get into it because this is a Scooby thread, and I'll just say that I disagree with you heartily on this point. Especially since Asami's arc is actually probably the most developed of them all, and revolves at least as much (if not more) around her father.

No, I mean Witches Ghost the last one that fleshed out the characters at all,...and it had The Hex Girls

Zombie Island came before that one.

Korra ended with Makorra just suddenly coming back,Korra being clueless as to what she's done (because of the plot),and an ambiguous break-up. First they had an episode that seemingly got it over with,....and then it just came back again and took over. Asami's best part had diddly-squat to do with the shipping

This show foreshadowed the tearing relationship between Velma/Shaggy pretty nicely so that it was believable,...and the reveal when Daphne gets kidnapped and Fred,...realizes. It had some bumps, but it was in little amounts,...no episode hijacking at all.

BTW anyone notice that Lin Bei Fong voiced an old lady,or that one of the culprits was not only Kevin Michael Richardson but had The Joker laugh?

Yeah. Mindy Sterling voices Dean Fenk, Kevin Michael voiced the guy that took care of the Burlington mansion and Hammill did the Baby villain from the beginning of season 2.

So if I can ask, where can I watch this, then? The site I'm using only has up to episode eight of the second season.

As I mentioned before, iTunes has all the SD:MI eps in High Definition. It costs money, but well worth it.

Also since the producers are bringing in other Hanna Barbera characters, I would like to see "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kids" make an appearance; they are an interesting take on the classic Scooby Doo formula.

I willing to bet that it's Pericles and not Scooby that needs to be taken out as a result of the past of the first Mystery Inc. Scooby has proven a desire to keep the gang together.

I absolutely adored the frank millerised version of blue falcon. The fact that Dynamutt is his same old wacky self just adds to the absurdity of it...

of course the recent cameos are slightly tainted by the adult swim versions...especially the tom and tubs appearance as soon as one of their fathers is mentioned as Michael Murphey I literally screamed "the nut from sealab had a kid?!?"

Yes I am aware Michael Murphey was the original version and HANK murphey was the parody character but it just popped into my head

You know, talking about the Venture Bros, the Mystery Inc. gang should meet the Groovy Gang and Dr. Orpheus.

Here's my ideas for the second half of Second Season. These are just guesses for it —

  • 16. "Zoo Zoo Zoo" - The gang solves a mystery at Crystal Cove's largest zoo.
    • Clue: An owl speaks to Scooby-Doo durning the caper, "Bait the Freak"
  • 17 - "Ever Dance With A Freak?" - Without the Shaggy and Scooby-Doo, the gang has to dance another dance with the Freak of Crystal Cove who been spooking up Crystal Cove. In the end, the gang get a shock when the unmasked the Freak as Shaggy and his horse as Scooby-Doo
    • Clue: Impressed by Shaggy and Scooby-Doo act and their reason for the diguses, the real Freak shows himself.
  • 18. "Family Fights" — Alice May and The Creeper are having fights while Eco-Kiss and Destroido CE Oes are having a serious war over Crystal Cove. The Creeper is defeated and revealed to be Decaon Karlswell. Alice May reveals herself to Hellen Jykell, the daughter of Dr. Johnathan "The Ghost of Mr. Hyde" Jekyll.
    • Clue: An Altantis time machine with a missing disc.
  • 19. "Trolling Around" — A Troll attacks Quest Labs. The gang solves the mystery with help of Jonny Quest and pals.
    • Clue: The Freak reveals its true form to our Mystery Inc. : a mermaid named Amelia.
  • 20. "Eco-Kiss" — Thanks to Ares haunting Eco-Kiss, the gang learns that more then their fair share of Eco-Kiss's history as they solve who beeing Ares.
    • Clue: Eco-Kiss's CEO — Maya Owens — reveals to be their true "Mr. E" and founder of original "Mystery Inc.".
  • 21. "The Bad News" — While dealing with a ghost who has grudge against newspapers and magizines, the gang get the full article on the missing kids.
    • Clue: The full article on the missing kids.
  • 22 - "Shocking Developments" — Durning a RPG video game championship homage to Pokemon, a Mewtwo homage causes problems for the gang.
    • Clue: Velma tells the gang that they are the "Missing Kids". Shaggy remarks, "As TV Tropes might say...what a wham line!"
  • 23 - "Roc Is The Word" - The gang has to deal with a Roc. They are finally happen to defeat the rock, but the rock explodes killing Prof. Prothemus and Eddie Machine.
    • Clue: Eddie Machine revealed to be a robot control by Scrappy-Doo, who dies.
  • 24: "Nibru" — In the cold opening, Nibru defeats our Mystery Inc., but it's turns out that they just sent back in time to the Spanish California, where the gang defeat Nibru, halts Planet X, and save Amelia from becoming the Freak of Crystal Cove
    • Clue: The disc is a energy disc for the Altantis Time Machine.
  • 25: "History Fixing" —- In 1980s, Ricky, Cassidy, Maya, Judy, and Brad get in evolved in their first spooky mystery at the old Spanish church and meet Amelia. Unware, that all of it's a act set up by our Mystery Inc. to change history.
  • 26: "A Changed Cove" — The cold opening has the adult Mystery Inc. capture the Piranha-Ghost, and getting a team clapping from our Mystery Inc. We jump three months later, as our Mystery Inc. makes a press conference. Though the press conference is a bait for one animal in need of a jail term: Prof. Prothemus.
    • Clue: Prof. Prothemus plot to change history via the Altantis Time Machine is exposed.

So what do you think of it, sir or madams, as the case might be. Remember, there are my guesses and not official episodes.

Logging off, Mad Writter a.k.a Dr Thinker

P.S. I hope the next "Scooby Doo" series is a lot Lighter and Softer then this one.

I do like the art style of this one though, so I'm hoping at least that would stay.

I kinda wish the show was an extension of the first DTV movies. Those were awesome and IMO the best parts of the series alongside Mystery Inc and 13 Ghosts.

Can we please get Mad Writter off this thread? He/she doesn't even like this show and is obviously trolling with these asinine episode summaries.

And I do not know who "Professor Prometheus" is. I only know of Professor Pericles. tongue

So yeah, I caught up with this show a while ago, and the second season so far is fantastic. Definately one of my favorie cartoons ever.

When does this show start back up again?

[up] Dezmo: I really don't know but the sooner the better, so "Warner Bros" can go back to the Lighter and Softer style of a "Scooby Doo" show.

[up][up] Why? Why would you want Lighter and Softer, that's all we've ever had until now (sans the first two animated movies) and with the exception of the first series,it's always been unmemorable, weird,or terrible.

This is the first time the characters really got fleshed out,and you want to get rid of that?

Don't worry, he doesn't have to worry. The current arc's only planned for two seasons, and the way CN's treating the show I don't doubt it'll disappear swiftly afterwards.

Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.

Let's just hope it goes to it's planned end and this wasn't it. That'd be even worse the fate of The Spectacular Spiderman

Glad to see it have a natural end instead of being zombied out into a Long Runner, cancelled when ratings fall.
