Nature finds a way to be unnatural?
well that was pretty much the plot of jurassic park, now was it

And then there was silenceSounds accurate
Ah, forgot that guy.
Basically, in the original version the only clear Tasen survivors were both girls, and possibly Yukabacera and Vateilika, considering how heavily armed they were. Hardly enough to recreate their species, no matter how you look at it. The game does imply that there are more survivors, due to the impossibility of clearing the whole planet manually (hence the Alpha Strike), and in the later updates you could save another group of maybe ten people, so it doesn't look that bleak for the Tasen anymore.
That the members of the Tasen army were sterilized was only an idea; it's not canon to the game. It also wouldn't make sense due to the Tasen focusing on survival after the war started. However, it would be canon in the sequel that most factions of the Komato Imperial Army have their soldiers sterilized after drafting from various colonies at a very young age.
While the very first version of the story in Iji had the Komato be somewhere close to humans on the evolutionary tree, later versions edited this out, so it's no longer clear what they are. The helmet design is supposed to imply a beak, at least. So they could still be reptiles, and their leathery skin a result of thousands of years of genetic engineering, but canonically nobody really knows. I haven't decided, either. :p
Wait, there's a sequel?
This "faculty lot" you speak of sounds like a place of great power...No, only vague plans for one. Probably won't happen, but if it does in the future, it'd require a team and a proper dev cycle. :p
Any extra programmers needed for this hypothetical sequel team?
Long live Cinematech. FC:0259-0435-4987@Ulti: Eh, birds, reptiles, same thing to me xP
Seriously though, ah, so sterilization thing was just a sequel idea then. Makes sense, I was wondering "WAIT A SEC, if Tasen military are all sterilized anyway, does that mean they had civilians? And if they didn't, doesn't that mean they were doomed species even if they successfully escaped Komato?" so now I don't need to ask about that since its not actually the case
^You'd have to apply a job at Ludosity

Sorry, but if I was serious about making Iji 2, I'd either be making it myself (with a smaller scope) or with Ludosity as a full-time commercial project (with a larger scope).
Well, birds are dinosaurs as far as I know, and someone thought it would be cool if the Komato were dinosaurs too. Maybe it was the writer of the Iji MSPA who was disappointed in me saying once that they were more closely related to humans, which again isn't canon anymore... I'm getting confused now :p

Here's a tiebreaker.
Komato are fish.
And then there was silence^What about insects or amphibians if we are going through list of all common prehistoric animal types?
^^Well, to be fair, whenever there is intelligent species evolved on earth that existed before humans, dinosaurs are first option people think of. I mean, like for example, I'm not super big Doctor Who fan so I might be wrong, but doesn't that series have lizard people who evolved before human who live in planet's core or something? Anyway, yeah, intelligent dinosaurs seems to be most common alternate intelligent species from earth thing from what I've seen

no one cares for them anyway
And then there was silenceI think that I recall the first Science of Discworld book having a prehistoric intelligent species of crabs.

My Games & WritingDiscworld takes place on world that is on top of giant space turtle if I remember right Also, its intentionally silly at times
(Seriously though, how old critters are crabs anyway? <_< I don't actually know how long crustacean have existed)

Discworld is a giant disc sitting on the back of four elephants. The elephants are all on a giant turtle. The turtle is flying through space.
I did say giant space turtle, but I didn't know about elephants in the middle
More you know I guess
Yes, but the intelligent crabs were on Earth (or something much like it): the Science of Discworld books revolve (so to speak :P) around the wizards using Hex (their magical computer, for those who don't know it) to create a new world; a world oddly-shaped as a near-sphere, and—stranger still—lacking both magic and narrativium.
(The set-up is used, as I recall, to examine our world through the lens of theirs, following various developments in Earth's past.)
My Games & WritingHuh
Well, anyway, still, my point was that Discworld is kinda exceptional book series anyway
Which is appropriate, because I was effectively pointing it out as an exception (to the "prehistoric intelligence is always dinosaurian" rule). :P
My Games & WritingDiscworld WAS an interesting place,
until the Komato alpha striked it, anyway
And then there was silence Realized that I was going to write "Thats why I wrote Discworld doesn't really count" that this conversation had become circular <_<
^What, are Komato the new Fire Nation?

Was that an intentional pun?
