What kind of surname is Kataiser, anyway? European of some sort?

This "faculty lot" you speak of sounds like a place of great power...

Europe is a big place, so I'd assume so.

Another Dan of confusion is the character in the game.

He's Iji's brother and Iji's last name is mentioned in the unlockable enemy/character information.

"Kataiser" always sounded like the name of some evil Prussian nobleman to me. I don't think it's an actual name, though.

I wonder what's for dinner?

No-one calls me Dan in real life, most call me Remar (since Daniel is so common), and some just call me Daniel. It's only Chris Geehan who called me Dan, I think he started it. :p

Kataiser was the surname of the protagonist of Ultimortal, my old comic. It's simply the word "kaiser" given some flair, I didn't think much about it. This is when it starts getting hard to explain the backstory to all of this... basically I don't like the name Ultimortal because it sounds pretentious, but in the comic it was a snide remark to call someone "the ultimate mortal" - no matter how smart or powerful they are, they're as fragile as the rest and will still die in the end. I just kept the name because many people know me by it by know... and you can't change your You Tube name.

Kataiser went insane after killing his own alien kind in Ultimortal to stop an invasion of Earth, so I thought it was fitting for Iji. :p The comic was kind of a cheesy deconstruction of alien invasion movies.

My Celestia. The last part of the game after the Tor fight is so sad. Like, just, real sad. Damn. So sad.

...okay, this thread's been going on for three years and a hundred pages, so I'd wager three months in this context is not a real necro...

Anyway. I found this game a couple of days before, and I'm still like, whoa. These hundred pages are quite a bit to read, so I hope you'll forgive me asking a question without archive binging through it. I'm under an impression the ending cinematic varies slightly, depending on your playstyle — like, the town at the end is walled, or is not. Can anyone confirm or deny that?

Yes, the ending does have a couple of differences depending on how you play.

Well then, so I just wanted to say that the only fault I see in this game is the idea of Earth being the Origin, but I read it's been covered a couple of pages ago. Hmph, and perhaps I could complain that I'll need a week or so to stop feeling weirdly melancholic, heh heh heh.

So I guess that's all for now, I came a bit late for the discussion. But at least I got all the Word of God in a single package.

Actually, I remember back when I wrote the story that the Tasen and Komato hailing from Earth was just to justify them looking humanoid. Story-wise they could have come from any other planet - it's not like they had any regrets bombing the place anyway. tongue

Yeah, I have read it somewhere in this thread that you spoke of that. Unfortunately, this explanation is of that kind that creates a bigger problem than the one to solve. You know, in the beginning there was only the issue of humanoid form, to which people would be used anyway even if it wasn't explaned along the lines of, like, parallel evolution. Story wouldn't get hurt if they were random space aliens, and there would be less things to explain. (Now, if the game involved human and Tasen/Komato genetics, that'd be a slightly different matter.) On the other hand, it makes them less generic, which I guess is a good thing from a certain point of view. cool

But, by no means I am dissing the game, far from it. So, BTW, since you're here: *kowtow* *kowtow* *kowtow*

(Don't you by, any chance, need your boots licked clean?) =)

—edit—

Oh, and, by the way. Do you have any particular vision of both races, outside of their uniforms? I mean, I guess you do, duh. It's however that I don't remember seeing fanart of that, and I don't know what would be roughly canon here. Some people mentioned that they imagined them as somewhat reptilian, but that's about all that I've found.

—edit 2—

Mhmmm-hmmm, some googling, and... There's something I'm adding to Iji's WMG page.

I do have some unfinished designs and ideas lying around, but I don't think I'd want to show them, since A) it'd ruin the mystery and people already have their ideas of what they look like, B) the designs are really weird due to the Komatos' abuse of genetic engineering so people may not like them, and C) it would clash with what the game already describes them as.

The overall Tasen anatomy appears humanoid in the game, and according to one logbook they are "genetically closer" to Origin than Komato are, which means that the Komatos' reptilian-ness is likely artificial. In in-game close-ups, their skin appears soft rather than scaly and has visible veins. However, according to the unfinished head designs, both Tasen and komato indeed appear reptile/bird-like.

If I ever went for sauropsidan Tasen/Komato as canon, I'd probably rewrite the related logbooks in the game. But I don't think it really matters unless I wanted to show them helmet-less. :p

Ah yes, I forgot to thank for the clarification. That's my bad.

While I'm here: in other news, getting Nanomaster is easy, but no damage run's gonna be a different thing altogether. I had 97 successes minus failures right before Tor... luckily there were two doors and a Komato 3 weapon to crack. cool So... I guess I'm gonna do a quick, violent Normal run to find all the secrets.

If you mean the rank "immortal", you only need less than 100 damage to get it, not 0 damage.
