Well, to be honest, it's holding hands indirectly. Rukia touches something and then Ichigo also touches it without thinking a few seconds later. They blush immediately and start avoiding eye contact.

Yep. He died offscreen and we only found out about it a good while later when we saw his zombified corpse. And then Mayuri trapped the zombie in a time loop.
So it's entirely possibly he'll recover.

Renji x Rukia is worst ship. It's basically a shittier version of Ichigo and Rukia's dynamic. Ichigo and Rukia feel like equals, Renji does not not feel like he can stand up to Rukia or take what she dishes out.
Soul Society arc he spends his time pining for her while Ichigo gets shit done.

On the Ichi Ruki front, there was also that poem from when he lost his powers about how it's hard to image his life without someone, with being implied to be Rukia.
Edit: Not that it really matters. I honestly think it would be better if this series avoided romance entirely.
