I don't have a problem with Goblins' world not being consistent with Dn D. I've read fantasy stories that were entirely the creations of their authors and the rules being revealed during the story instead of being written down in an external rulebook (actually, most fantasies are like this, and supplementary books are usually created after the original novel).
What my problem is that while this world is created especially for this comic, it feels very much like a game world. It can be explained away by saying that there is an actual DM and actual players, but I think the story has gone way past where it's believable. Also, it's overly complicated with several ass-pulls. For example, dungeon crawls created by mad wizards to trap adventurers is not even a good Hand Wave for me.
The characters, however, are very believable and likable. So basically, I like parts in this comic which focus on characterization, for example what's happening now. I also liked pretty much all parts involving K'seliss. When there is extensive worldbuilding, I tend to facepalm a lot though.
The universe is under no obligation to make sense to us.I'm pretty sure this is supposed to feel like a game world. I mean, they've literally been referencing stats and numbers and checks and character sheets since the first arc. Hell, Thaco is named after an archaic D&D term.

Following game rules (even if only to a certain degree) does not equal to being in a game world. The Order of the Stick also references Dn D mechanics routinely, but it does not feel like the story is being very gamey (at least, not since the second book).
The universe is under no obligation to make sense to us.Yes, you can have an RPG Mechanics 'Verse that is not explicitly framed as a tabletop RPG being played by actual people.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Well for the most part, this one is.
It certainly has a GM.
I wanna meet that girl.
I think he already got a Wisdom boost...
Am I reading the right comic? Did Vorpal just sound like the wisest person in the room?
Fumbles still needs to prove himself worthy, so he's getting serious about things.
So being nominated to Fortune Teller triggers an immediate Character Development.
The universe is under no obligation to make sense to us.You entered in the worst possible location, demon.
The incapacitated goblins lying defenseless in their path probably don't share that optimism
Heroic sacrifice for Fumbles?
It that's the pain cloak then I think I'm getting an idea how the rest of the scene is going to play out.
That cloak is blue, the previous page already showed him in a greenish-grey cloak.
Link to TRS threads in project mode here.I think Fumble's cloak has been enchanted with the levitation potion he found earlier. The flames match up with the description of the enchanted item bursting into magical heatless flame while in use.
Ah, yes, they have two surviving cloaks in this strip.
Was there actually a strip that showed Fumbles finding that potion, or was it introduced just a few pages ago?
The Pain Cloak is wrapped around the Axe of Prissan. The flames around the cloak are blue to make it easier to the artist to differentiate between different objects in the panel - see how the flea demon is outlined in black or blue interchangeably in other panels.
