"Some of the smaller satellites may be armed with short-range EMP weapons, but we won't know for certain until we get there. We should engage the smaller turrets from range at first, and observe which ones aren't returning fire. Those that don't are possible EMP carriers. Once we have an idea of which ones are EMPs we can engage the others from close quarters at our discretion.

"As for the Targyns, the main concern is simply how much punishment they can withstand. Destroying one will take a concerted effort. However, disabling it may be more doable. If we can destroy its cooling systems, the satellite should automatically shut down to prevent overheating.

"Which brings me to this thought: what if we threw a disabled Targyn at the training facility? Thoughts?"

War

The Hephaestus's laboratory was a massive affair. The uniformly checkered tiles seemed to stretch almost out of vision, while a single, enormous screen at the far end of the room seemed to serve as the primary display for incoming data, its numbers large enough to read even at such a great distance. Currently, it appeared to be calculating and running a simulation for a slightly modified version of the current prototype.

Two frame-sized canisters, one near the entrance and one on the other end of the room, seemed to be the primary points for testing the short-jump technology, but that was far from the only experiment underway in Onaki's lab. Several assistants stared intently at the centerpieces of their respective workstations, each presumably investigating a different aspect of Flow travel. Yet, despite the cutting-edge technologies clearly being developed, the atmosphere of the room itself was unmistakably drab and sterile, the walls a dull off-white, with bright lights spaced in perfectly even distances all the way across the ceiling.

For her part, War took all this in within the span of several seconds, and let out a low whistle, grinning widely. "Very impressive setup you have here, Doctor. Don't you think, Pestilence?"

Issac Alesci

Gabriel and the two Praetorians strolled in, taking some of the remaining seats around the briefing table. Issac made a show of sweeping the room, and nodded. "It seems like everyone is here." This was a lie, of course. He hadn't actually started to take note of the number of people in attendance, but declaring that they were with authority had a chance of getting the meeting started faster, and he was anxious to get on with matters and return to his investigations.

Flint couldn't believe it, for once he wasn't the only one thinking of things like this. "Great idea, I'm all for it! As long as the shields still work when we throw it, that oughta do the trick. Also, if we just go for the cooling system instead of destroying them, would we just handle one each, or do we still need to gang up on one?"

"Well, there's only one Targyn in our section of the battlescape, Flint, but there are still the smaller one-weapon satellites surrounding them to contend with. We should focus on disabling as many of those as quickly as possible, say within the first minutes (one round) of engagement, then go for the disable. Once the Targyn is down, we mop up the rest of its smaller friends."

The silence in the Castellan's meeting room stretched on. "You're looking well this morning, Commander. I meant to see you at breakfast, before I was waylaid by Mr. Leon," Issac commented idly, fidgeting with his glasses a bit before addressing the regiment at large, "How did ya'll sleep last night?"

Ibarra nodded. "I'm interested to see how this group will perform in combat. Good to know we can plan at the least." Not the most complicated, but certainly original. The station couldn't possibly blow the satellite into dust fast enough to avoid a collision. "Just one question. What about the crew on the Targyn? They might conduct repairs of some kind or another while we're moving it, and throw off our aim." To be truthful, Ibarra cared little if they were onboard for the impact, but he still felt that someone ought to say it. "Are we evacuating the thing or perhaps making use of the nerve gas?"

"That's a good question. I'd get them out of there if I could, but I doubt we'll get that luxury. Unless the crew areas are a separate part of the satellite, they can't really be extracted, and I don't know if they'll listen to radio warnings."

A hologram flickered on in the center of the room. The person depicted by it was a rather large man, tall, muscular and broad-shouldered. His uniform indicated he was the regiment Lieutenant. His right arm was held at a 90 degree angle straight out to his side, most of it out of frame.

"My apologies, Lady Bannikberg." The lieutenant spoke. "The Captain is busy with her routine and refuses to stop in spite of the schedule."

"Sen's busy? With what?" Alexei asked.

"She is curren—"

"PUT ME ON"

The lieutenant sighs. "Captain, you are hardly in a presentable state at the moment."

"To hell with decorum! Put me on the 'gram!"

"Very well, Captain."

The hologram pans toward the end of the large Lieutenant's arm, where a diminutive Asian girl with snow white hair and blue eyes is hanging by her legs. Her right arm is cybernetic, the nanotube plating a pure white. She is in workout clothing, wearing only a tanktop and fatigues. Before addressing the briefing room she does a ten additional sit-ups, then simply hangs form her subordinate's arm and waves.

"Hello! You may know this already, but I'm Sen Trong, I'd rather not go into details about my career, so I—"

"Age 22, rank: Trio Knight, frames killed: 369, title: White Lotus. Specialties are melee combat and programming. Creator of 108 Sapient A.I. the first of which is our very own Sen. Distinguished herself in the Sector Stigma Incident, the survivor out of the six with the highest amount of kills in said battle, 87, however, during the battle she lost her left eye and right arm. The other five survivors are Lord Thomas Cromwell, Alexei Niktokov, Anya Niktokov, Tsubaki Karamoto, and Jeanne Descartes. Her measurements are 5'4" tall, and 24-25-38." The communication officer's outburst left everyone in the room silent.

"I'm a fan." She says meekly.

Sen drops off of her lieutenant's arm and stands on her hands, before cartwheeling back onto her feet. "I can see that. I'll have to visit you later. But first, we have business to take care of."

Oh. Business? Good. Glad she has her priorities straight. Thought she'd turn out to be another complete lunatic. Issac frowned impassively, though a slight forward lean betrayed his interest. Possibilities had been gnawing their way through his head while they waited, and he was forced to admit - with no small degree of private frustration, and maybe a little bitterness - that most of his plans for ensuring the Regiment's survival during any given scenario were once again woefully lacking in detail.

How am I supposed to judge the likelihood of their actions, again? More trial and error? We've never even discussed formations! I mean, I'm sure that everyone must at least knows how to Sphere, but it's not like a Sphere is even... Pah. Back to the present, Alesci. Focus on the now.

Earl frowned but nodded a greeting. As a career soldier, he felt like a chariot to a car. Her kind alone seemed capable of holding their front on the war. Moral outrage had slowed her, but morals slowed progress like a rock stopped rapids. Sooner or later, the regulations would either be washed away or worked around.

Gabriel's eyes widened and his eyebrows disappeared beneath his bangs.

OhMyGodThat'sSenTrongbutnoitcan'tbebutmygodyesitis.

He petrified for several seconds before his mind actually realized that, yes, it was indeed Sen Trong and that she was somehow involved with his next mission. He idily wondered if he was dreaming before dismissing that possibility.

He didn't want to ruin a dream that was this good anyway.

If we're working with Sen Trong herself... He managed to think through his surprise. Then there's no way this could be a shame division! It's an actual assignment! He realized with relief.

Gabriel broke into a wide smile. He was going to be fighting and earning glory alongside Sen Trong herself, and he he'd been assigned to an honorable regiment.

Yes, today was a good day.

Sen gently tossed her long white hair over her shoulder while staring straight at Lorraine. "And a pleasure meeting you as well. I've heard much about you. But first things first, allow me to brief you on this mission."

Sen snaps her fingers, bringing up a photo of a person that the entire room should recognize. A young woman with short, bright red hair, almond shaped eyes and a rounded face, marking her Chinese heritage. Her left hand, a cybernetic prosthesis, is painted vermilion. Her uniform is that of a Federation Ace. Her right arm sports a red armband with a bird on it.

"Song Li Hua. The Vermilion Bird of Tian Wan. Callsign, Zhu Que. You've all heard the stories about how she led the rebellion at age 18, and how she's aided many rebellions since, and on top of that, participated in her fair share of invasions. At this moment, she's trying to break our hold on the Altair system. We are presently en route to capture her."

"Being known as the person to shoot down the Liberator is an honor not many have an opportunity for, however, your orders are simply to capture her. And they come straight from the top, Dame Chevalier herself."

"Lets just shoot it up enough to make too much work to repair." Varina said after Flint spoke. "Then toss it at the facility." She looked over the projection of the battlefield again and noted the distance between the satellite and station. She rocked in her seat eagerly.

"If we toss the makeshift missile fast enough they won't have time to adjust their course even if they do get power back. And then, boom!" Varina smacked her fist into the palm of her hand. "Metal meets metal meets explosions!"

Jill smirked at this. Perhaps Varina was worth knowing after all. "I like that plan. It's simple, and easy to remember." she said.

After all, using the enemy's resources against itself was the most efficient form of warfare, something that Jill could admire. "As for the crews, they're military. They knew what they would be getting into when they signed up. If they surrender, we take them prisoner. If they don't, then we use them as target practice. It's as simple as that."

Gabe stroked his chin thoughtfully. The expression had worked better when he actually had his goatee, but certain sacrifices had to be made for the sake of cleanliness.

" Do we have specifications on enemy force composition ma'am?" He spoke up, trying to keep the nervous quaver from his voice. Anyone was allowed to speak, but he was still hesitant to throw his voice in with titans like Lady Bannikberg and Sen Trong. Earl's unflapping demeanor gave him some confidence though. " Besides Zhu Que herself, what obstacles should we expect? And what combat conditions?"

The Vermilion Bird Gabe throught to himself nervously. My first assignment is taking down a war hero? He flexed his fingers, agitated.

It is an excellent opportunity to prove myself though... He thought, trying to approach it from a different angle. Think of the glory... if I brought down Song Li on my first flight with the Bannikberg Regiment... He licked his lips, half nervous, half eager.
