Greetings. This is the thread for requesting assistance with recovering a TV Tropes account for which you have forgotten the password.
Before posting here, please note that Get Known has a comprehensive set of instructions for managing your account. To summarize, password resets are limited as follows:
- If you have an associated email address, use the Lost Password link on the login screen to request a reset email. If that doesn't work, post here.
- If you do not have an associated email address but you are still logged in, you can register an email address and use it for recovering your password.
- If you do not have an associated email address, and have not used your previous account since September 18, 2013, we cannot verify your ownership for technical reasons.
- To verify ownership without an email address, and if you have used your previous account recently, you should be logged in on the same computer and/or Internet connection that you most recently edited or posted from.
- It is not currently possible for moderators to reset your password or change your registered email address. As a last resort, you may use our contact form to send a message to "The Staff".
Thanks for your understanding.

~Second Kaitenhammer: You don't share IP addresses with Kaitenhammer, and it's a busy IP range ... you will need admin assistance I think.
~grrr: Fighteer has asked in MoS to knock the "One email address per troper" code down a bit; not sure if/when this will happen.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanHas anyone mentioned that if you were logged in prior to the site change, you can probably recover your password just by looking at your cookies?
Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's PlayYeah, look for one called mazeltov.
Damn dynamic IP... I guess I have to use this account then.
Never mind, I found the cookie called "mazeltov" and boom, there was my old password. Thanks!

Well, that would be fine but I don't know how to find my cookies. Hey, I'm old, okay?
If it moves, eat it. If it doesn't move, kick it—then eat it!Yeah my reset old profile doesn't seem to recognize my old e-mail address and I used my new e-mail address to set up this new profile. I might just stick with this new profile then.
OK. I tried to be clever. This rarely ends well.
I tried re-creating Reg Shoe with my work email. Either I spelt the email wrong or my work email server hates TV tropes as the conformation email never arrived. So, um, would you mind unmaking Reg Shoe again? This time I promise I will just make a new email address to use somewhere. My current one is drowing in spam anyway...
Reg Shoe here. Currently more or less unable to use site or get into my account thanks to switchover issues. I'm not bitter, just British.Have a similar problem.
Tried registering my Claude Lv 250 (with no spaces) account. Verification email never showed up. Can't sign in, can't get it resent, my account is essentially useless.

I'll direct people with email issues to this topic.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanMy old acc was dreamgor. I believed I used the same email-adress as I did for this one but it seems I never got around to registering my handle with that email-adress. I'm sure I used either this computer (or another computer or my Iphone, if this one isn't correct could I get two more chances?) and this internet at most a few days before the update went live Can I get a reset, please? Much appreciated.
Edit: Oh, also I tried to login with what I was entirely sure was my old password to no effect. I know this is probably a bug right now but I thought I should add that.

~Gormev: I've reset dreamgor. You need to recreate that account.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanHello. This is the troper formerly known as "Hodor".
I wondered about regaining access to that account.
Had some issues recently logging in/trying to create a new account in order to access this thread and just realized about being able to retrieve a username for the email address on file. I had thought my "new" handle was Hodor 2 rather than Hodor2, which is why I hadn't posted here until now.
~Hodor2: I've reset Hodor.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanThanks. I'll try to log in under that handle, and if it works will use it exclusively.
Edit- Hmm, seems like I can still log in under this new handle (and it's the one on file for my email address) and can't use the other one...

May I ask about resetting the password for account "HP Lemon"? I hadn't needed an email in order to create the account, was logged out after the website revamp, and while I'd give the cookie suggestion posted above a try, I had cleared the cookies from both of the computers I used my TV Tropes account on (they both use the same internet connection) because of problems involving another site. So I'm a bit of a pickle...
~virgofall: HP Lemon has been reset. You need to recreate your account there.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanAlright, thank you very much for the assistance!
Hi, I was previously Alloflifedecays, could I get my old account back? I don't remember if that account will be within the time frame needed, and if it isn't, I'm not too torn up about it.
Sorry, but you don't share any IP addresses with that person.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanErm... back again. When I tried to recreate the account, I had not received a confirmation email, whether in Spam folder or otherwise (it's on an aim/aol.com account; this current handle is on a yahoo.com account - I know there was an email-related thread posted before, but no dice). Am I allowed to use this handle still, if I wanted to make this my TV Tropes account instead of the original name?

i'm still hoping to get my old account back, too. as i said before, i was previously Emperor Oshron without an underscore in the middle (i'm determined to keep my online persona the way it is ;))

So, first of all, I apologize for my hostile temporary screen name. I was extremely frustrated with all of TV Tropes's login functionality when I made it; I had problem after problem trying to regain control of the user 75thTrombone, and then with trying to create a user to ask a question here. (This was all months ago now.)
So yeah, can I regain access to 75thTrombone, please? Also, there are probably never-used handles for "75thrombone" (typo the very first time I signed up) and "75thTroper" (which I created in all my travails of trying to recover it), so you can delete or merge all those as you see fit. But 75thTrombone is the main one.
I don't know if they'll all share an unbroken chain of IP addresses, because I've moved and changed jobs in the last year or two. However, if you go to http://75thtrombone.com (which is blank) and look at the source code, you'll see my proof that I own that domain and have since time immemorial.
Thanks very much for your help.
(Incidentally, I don't think I actually forgot my password to 75thTrombone; my passwords are all generated by and stored in 1Password. I think it probably used special characters that got messed up in one of the database alterations or moves over the years. Has that ever happened to anyone?)

There is no IP overlap between you and the other users, and unless you have an one year old copy of that domain I can't verify that they are your accounts.

so who, specifically, can i ask for help restoring my account? the forum here is a bit counter-intuitive compared to what i'm used to, so i'm kinda lost
