Greetings. This is the thread for requesting assistance with recovering a TV Tropes account for which you have forgotten the password.
Before posting here, please note that Get Known has a comprehensive set of instructions for managing your account. To summarize, password resets are limited as follows:
- If you have an associated email address, use the Lost Password link on the login screen to request a reset email. If that doesn't work, post here.
- If you do not have an associated email address but you are still logged in, you can register an email address and use it for recovering your password.
- If you do not have an associated email address, and have not used your previous account since September 18, 2013, we cannot verify your ownership for technical reasons.
- To verify ownership without an email address, and if you have used your previous account recently, you should be logged in on the same computer and/or Internet connection that you most recently edited or posted from.
- It is not currently possible for moderators to reset your password or change your registered email address. As a last resort, you may use our contact form
to send a message to "The Staff".

I'm having the same trouble. Every time I try to go to a forum topic (or YKTTW) all I get is "Sorry, we couldn't match your login information." I've tried logging again a couple times, each time it saying "Whew! That is done" message that I've successfully created a new account. But even though pages say "Logged in" at the top, and that page itself says there's a cookie with the Konkoa name, it doesn't seem to recognize it elsewhere. Basically, I'm still missing the middle line of user options, from "to do" to "profile".

This is my first post in the forums, and I'm making it in case I need to log in again. It was really difficult getting known because for some reason, I had to go through the process about fifty times before it stopped saying "Couldn't log you in with this combination" or "Sorry, but we couldn't match your login information" on the forums despite it saying I was logged in on the main page, and when I returned to the Getting Known page. Why does this happen? Thanks, and sorry if I'm violating anything.

Did you use characters in your password other than a-z, A-Z, 0-9? It's also possible that you were using an IP address that is already associated with an account.

No, just log out, then log back in with your old name and put in a new password, as if making a new account. Least that's what I've done.
Don't take life too seriously. It's only a temporary situation.
