I love DRK but it's arguably as bland as RPR at 50. WAR actually requires you to pay attention to your gauge at that level.

WAR it is then.

I did start out the game as that class, so might as well.

@Resileaf

All instances of it have instead been "Shite". See various NPC dialogue:

"If you want to keep it that way, take my advice: when haulin' heavy shite, lift with your legs, not your back. I learned that one the hard way."
"I don't give two shites about how the food tastes. All I needs is drink."
"Sod off, ye sack o' squirrel shite!"

A good number of jobs are functional at 50, but having had access to higher level stuff, only a few are what I would call fun at 50.

And very few are any fun anywhere below that.

Rule of thumb is the older the job, the more boring it is before 50 (except for those that got revamped).

Newer jobs tend to integrate mechanics early on (like Dancer - Standard Step at level 15). Older jobs just got their skills trimmed over time and have to accommodate the need to "unlock" them throughout the job quests.

The only 2.0 jobs that can be fun at/below 50 imo are Ninja and Scholar. Bard is fine too I guess but I don't like playing it.

As for the best job for the XVI collab, I'd suggest any job with a means to tp/dodge/dash since dodging is the main mechanic during the trial. Dancer, Red Mage, Bard, Reaper, Dragoon.

On an unrelated note, I've gotten all 405 Triple Triad cards, which marks the second time I have a full log (I had the card mount already).

Reminder that the 12th will have the next Liveletter. Any hopes on what they'll show?

I forget how soon until release they show the new ability demonstration.

[up] definetly not in this Liveletter. Very likely next month at the earliest.

I expect them to give details about the various raids or variant dungeons. And maybe some info on Beastmaster.

The 2 months out live-letter iirc is usually when they talk about the major gameplay feature, show us one of our trials, and potentially give out the benchmark. The job skills trailer will probably be two or three weeks before launch at the end of May or early June.

With the massive requirement bump, the bench will absolutely be part of the LL.

I've played a lot of SCH and not really. You're either low enough to let the fairy carry you or just high enough to feel the threat of enemy damage but lack any good tools to do much about it. The job also doesn't get an OGCD AoE heal or Emergency Tactics until Heavensward content, so enjoy using Succor a lot and wasting heals if you get paired with another shield healer in Trials/Crystal Tower.

Ninja works though.

Wait, we don't get an orchestrion roll for Away? But that's the best song from XVI!

Does Lyse really qualify as a Mighty Whitey if she's Ala Mhigan? Yes, she's lighter-skinned, but so are Fordola, Minfilia, Adalberta e.t.c.

It's not even that she's particularly better as a leader (she acknowledges that she isn't) or even the best fighter the Ala Mhigan Resistance has (that's WoL). But Mighty Whitey has some harsh cultural connotations that Lyse doesn't really fit?

While that's true, her overall presentation is fairly... not great, I would say. To some extent it's clearly intentional, given that the early part of the Ala Mhigo storyline involves her visiting a place she's never been before and asking the downtrodden, elderly farmers why they aren't resisting harder, and to her credit she does get over that later.

It may not carry all the direct narrative connotations, but the visuals of blonde, blue-eyed Lyse being chosen as the symbol of the Resistance (and the de facto leader later) over characters like Raubahn or Conrad do end up pretty unfortunate. Especially alongside the persistent Y'shtola lightening.

It's been fun.

You forgot that in the village, she's the one who inspires the young dark skinned man he's been selfish for not actively resisting the Empire, because she and the WOL went to save a merchant, while he a regular civilian, couldn't.

Lyse might be ethnically Ala Mhigan, but she left when she was a baby and grew up in Sharlayan

She isn’t, like in any way. She is Ala Mhigan by birth and there are a lot of Ala Mhigan skin tones.

If anything the Wo L could be labeled that after showing up winning the The Naadam, earning the title of Khagan, leading the Doman rebellion and being a bigger badass than 3 entire countries… but not Lyse there either.

That's why I always play a WOL Xaela through Stormblood.

I think the Azim Steppe would be really awkward if I played any other race.

[up][up][up] She was around 6 or 7 when she left, not a ‘baby’.

[up] I personally don’t have too much of a problem with it as it was exactly what they wanted, especially Sadu, they were having FAR more fun than we were even though we kicked their ass.

I really like that when Sadu shows up later and you ask for her help with something she really does go 'I don't have any reason to say no; however, this is a great excuse to have another fight with you anyway, so fight me.'

Is Mighty Whitey part of Lyse's folder on the character page? That definitely looks like something that should go in YMMV in my opinion. Ala Mhigo is ethnically diverse, she is ethnically Ala Mhigan, and it's a country that was definitely more on the expantionist side before Garlemald arrived. She's also the daughter of a previous resistance leader.

We're not talking about Daenerys ruling over and reforming a dark-skinned continent here, it looks more like shoehorning a trope.

And if you want a real-life example that Lyse might be just as Ala Mhigan as anybody else, I present exhibit A: Black NBA Player Isaiah Hartenstein (center) with his parents

[up][up][up] and [up][up]

Sometimes I unironically wish Sadu would tag along on some of our adventures more. She was great in the Garlemald section.

Sadly, all she’s doing now is hanging out with Cirina. It’s dull.
