Thing of it is, look close at those deductions. A bunch of those are for BENEFITS. Medicare, medicaid, health, dental, vision, disability, retirement...Holy crap, they're even UNION!

Think Devilcorp is taking any applications?

I am surprised they would have union, since they are supposed to be straw evil capitalists.

[up] Well, that's basically what Sinfest has been like these past years: the "villains" provide a workplace that offers benefits and has good working conditions, while the "heroes" engage in terrorism, espouse the idea that anything patriarchy related should be destroyed (even the male gender) and then bemoan that they have no allies.

Also, holy crap, they get retirement and stocks too? Well, since Devilcorp is pretty much an economy unto itself, Slick and Squig will probably have a sizable nest egg.

[up]Seriously, this is making me want to see what kind of contracts the girls at the red light district have there. At this point I wouldn't be surprised if they made Amsterdam's brothels look like a New York street corner.

This again shows that Tats really is making us want to Root For The Empire, because they really are more sensible than the so-called freedom fighters.

At this point I would honestly not blame Slick for joining Chaos.

Evidence Tats hasn't worked a day in his life is accumulating fast! [lol]

Anyone remember this comic, essentially dismissing the same thing he's criticizing here?

What does he expect to happen when his communist ideals are realized? Countries run by communists aren't exactly known for their workers' huge disposable incomes...

[up]Objection there... here in Italy we had communists at the head of the government a couple of times - and they didn't mess things up, because they DID realize the simple, golden rule: "if a thing works, don't break it."

It's not the communists, it's the short-sighted ones (like the people we got now, and not only in the government)... people that think that the golden rule is "I want it here, I want it now, and to hell with the future". Retirement? Who cares! Health benefits? I'm healthy! And so on and so forth. So shops and business places close down one after another - and everyone suffers. Because they can't freaking look for the freaking future.

Well, of course Violent Valerie would dismiss libertarians. She wants a powerful central government ... run by her.

What does he expect to happen when his communist ideals are realized? Countries run by communists aren't exactly known for their workers' huge disposable incomes...

By odd coincidence, I was reading a famous poem by Bertoldt Brecht (a communist, but a disillusioned one by the end of his life) in response to the Soviet Union's invasion of East Germany in 1953 after a strike by oppressed workers:

"Die Lösung" (The Solution)

After the uprising of the 17th of June / The Secretary of the Writers' Union / Had leaflets distributed in the Stalinallee / Stating that the people / Had forfeited the confidence of the government / And could win it back only / By redoubled efforts. / Would it not be easier / In that case for the government / To dissolve the people / And elect another?

[up][up] Don't get me wrong, I consider myself a socialist. I think certain things need to be run by the government and worker's unions because they are too important to be left to individuals whose primary concern is profit. (health care, education, worker's rights, stuff like that).

My primary concern with pure communism is that it goes too far by denying persons access to personal property and not supporting individual acquisition of wealth. It's a long-term decline into stagnation as far as I'm concerned.

... Am I the only one who noticed that many if not all of the items on the list are government taxes, i.e. stuff that the US Government technically forces upon private corporations?

[up] Actually, the government ones look to be the minority there. Mostly localized to the first couple of items on that list. Everything else are company provided benifits.

Edit: Yep. Just checked it again. More than I thought, but still the minority. The last three are eyebrow raising though. "Additional, misc, and other." Hey! They might actually be acting like badguys here! Filching their employees in any way they can!

[up] And what is the in-comic alternative? No the alternative to capitalistic Big Business, but the alternative in terms of other characters making money?

Monique is — for reasons I can't fathom — somehow an ultra-successful entertainer. Does she have a manager? Does she pay dues to SAG-AFTRA? Do some of her earnings go to the same benefit plans that Squig's do? Does she take advantage of Hollywood Accounting methods when she pays her taxes?

The Sisterhood girls don't seem to be employed. (Tess is the possible exception — she has a machine shop, but is it a business or a hobby?) Are they college students? (They act like first-year students taking Grievance Studies 101.) Are they minors, still supported by their families? Do any of them other than Xanthe have families? Who supports them, and do they support the government by paying taxes or tuition? All we've seen is that they have enough money to act independently of adults and that they own and/or operate a variety of motor vehicles, including vans and trucks.

Hey, Tats! Inquiring minds want to know! tongue

Throughout their depiction, the Sisterhood do seem to be minors, especially Violent Violet.

@Metalix

Or it might be to cover the in-work luxuries Devilcorp provides, like that popcorn dispenser. Given what I've seen so far, the place likely has a rec room for employees to relax, maybe have some company provided donuts and such.

If there is a rec room, then that be a huge benefit from working in those dreary factories.

Yes, except for when they drive vans and trucks on city streets. (I'm trying to recall whether I've seen anyone but Tess driving those.) Clio and Xanthe drive motorcycles; you have to be at least 15-1/2 to do that, if I recall correctly.
