[up][up]You forgot about Rambo. Seriously, you're discussing PTSD in fiction, and somehow forgot Rambo.

Seriously, go watch First Blood. That one...that one will get to ya man.

Edit: Seeing how this is a page topper, I might as well add some more content. How about if I post The Nostalgia Critic expressing my thoughts whenever Tats tries to makes Slick and Squig's trauma funny.

Some illuminati drones are analyzing some ambulance thing.

Wait, I forgot. Have we seen this thing before?

Betchya Tats is gonna try to make all of this Slick's fault.

Y'know, something just occured to me. Slick and Moniqe's relationship fell apart after Slick gave some advice that could've been worded better, and the comic pretty much called that victim blaming, and yet Slick is a constant but unknowing victim of Evil-Slick's actions, but he's never intended to receive any sympathy for this.

Penises are evil, that's why.

Also, I'm confused. Because it looks like Devil!Slick and the executioner just did a good thing by-in-universe standards. They just freed Slick of PTSD by the looks of it.

Anyone want to make heads or tales of this?

EDIT: Holy shit! I just realized we might actually be getting a conclusion on something I've been waiting years for.

Gotta update from TWR. Angry guy is angry. Also, some theories as to who Vainglorious is.

Oh fuck you, Ishida.

After all this time with this fucking incoherent heart metaphor, and this whole story arc about Slick finding the glasses and becoming more materialistic or whatever, and that hint of a plot where Slick was accumulating “Glitter points” to win Monique’s love….lolnvm.

One again, he mixes a metaphor for something into a story that’s literally about that thing, causing incoherence. Slick is no longer responsible for anything he does as a result of his heart was destroyed, because his figurative heart was literally destroyed. Granted, at some point the heart stopped being Slick’s literal heart and started being a piggy bank, but if you’re going for symbolism to have to actually write down and remember what your symbolism is. I think Tats literally forgot the heart was Slick’s actual heart (which somehow became a true flesh-and-blood heart since its last appearance, despite Slick not doing good deeds or anything, because Tats had a pink=good blue=bad idea and who cares about logic or consistency, right guys?).

Even the art’s shit. Look at that second row of panels. We see that Vainglorious (And devil Slick is pretty obviously Vainglorious since he has matching hair and no one else has shown up in forever who fits. The female demon who created him can be safely assumed to have been forgotten) is facing the safe. Then he explodes something off to his right, which turns out to have been….the safe previously established as not to his side. Some of the readers in the forums were confused by this sequence, and I don’t blame him.

Also, Slick’s room only turns pink after Vainglorious puts on the glasses, so I guess that’s an effect of the glasses because Tats forgot about the capitalism thing?

Now, if Devil Slick is Vainglorious, than I guess the robot factory inside the TV is his and that’s how he’s going to fight the Devil. Or I would guess, except that comic’s from back in April and at this point I don’t think Tats is capable of remembering that far back. He sure as fuck doesn’t remember Mint, which is a damn shame because a female demon being behind the Cult of Masculinity would actually be an interesting idea. Ah well, at least this Vainglorious arc will be dropped in three months and then Tats would be on to his next idea that could be really cool if he just wrote an outline first and stuck to it.

My god this comic pisses me off.

What in the nine hells is actually going on here? If this sequence of events is meant to be literal in any kind of way Slick is DEAD. His heart has been destroyed. He is demised. He is pushing up daisies. He has passed away. He has gone and joined the choir invisible. The man is deceased. He's gone to meet his maker. This is an EX-SLICK.

On the other hand if this is meant to be symbolic (as the pretentiousness of this useless sack of nuts known as Sinfest has become every Sunday), then what is the meaning of it? Slick clearly can't help himself. He has no control over the actions of his devil side. He's getting mugged as he is unconscious from what I can only assume to be a mental breakdown brought on by PTSD inspired flashbacks. Men are doomed to fail? Is that it?

So what is his dark side offering a heart on some kind of altar to masculinity supposed to represent? Men truly are evil penis demons? No use trying to change because your demon half that lives in every MAN (NOT woman, those beautiful creatures!) is bound to fuck you over when you are down on the floor?

And WHY is the god damn fembot still on the screen? Did she literally hack into his god damn laptop to make him freak out? It's not a hallucination? Then why the hell would Maverick do something like that? I stated earlier those sentient robots worked mostly on spite. Apparently they really do.

Uh, people? As much as it pains me to raise a hand in Tatsuya "moron" Ishida's defense, I think that the strip has a hidden meaning - given how the glitter points fly up to the symbol and the computer changes color, maybe they're supposed to purify...

...nevermind, Ishida is a moron. I just noticed that my interpretation works... IN REVERSE! Basically, the little slicktop (who, if you people remember, used to have A PERSONALITY) had some of Maverick's mind inside - a good thing, in Ishida's mind - but then Sleaze takes the Heart, brings it to the huge Sado-demon, who shatters it, and in the end, instead of the face of Maverick (who, I guess, was there to simbolize - badly - the need for Slick to "be fixed") there are only Sleaze's glasses.

In short, Sleaze has taken over Slick's computer, who Ishida has many times hinted to be one of Slick's few points of contact with the world - therefore destroying in one shot one of Slick's best friends (Lappy even ran to Hell to save Slick, for goodness' sake!), Slick's feelings (bye bye heart...) and any chance the comic still gave for Slick's redemption. Don't be amazed if in the upcoming comics Slick turns out to have become utter and complete filth.

No, see its actually brilliant. It can be an indecipherable piece of pretentious garbage that's so over-saturated with symbolism that Tats' few remaining fans can claim that it really means (insert something just as if not more stupid and or offensive than whatever the hell that strip is going for here) so that it clearly shows Tats is still a genius without equal.

Through the eyes I have known you.

Yeah, a tthis point you could any sort of "explanation" and comic would have "evidence" for it.

For example, this strip symbolizes how Slick is denial of his desire to have a sex change and become Pure Angelic Woman rather than Evil Penis Demon.

[up]I'd say it more symbolizes Tatsuya's self hatred due to his continuing addiction to some REALLY messed up porn, and how he keeps lashing out at others, trying to imply (or possibly convince himself) that they watch it just as much as he does and yet feel no guilt or shame in it like he does.

Wow, now I really want a white chocolate latte. Is this what being an art critic feels like?

I was just poking about on the interwebz, and I found a pretty good post about Sinfest that was made a few weeks ago when Absinthe was freaking out about the possible loss of her job.

Oh, look. Absinthe actually explains the weight of her job. A job Monique constantly encouraged her to slack off from and rebel against. (I doubt she’ll actually be fired, since Tats hasn’t changed the status quo since the Fuchsia/Criminy story arc, so there’s a tangible threat and reason to care here, but I digress.)

Absinthe’s situation could be a lot worse. She lives in a lavish household with many benefits, provided she pulls her weight. If not, her only other option is back to the strip club, since devil girls aren’t easily employed anywhere else.

The old Monique, before quite literally being brainwashed into being a radfem, was predominantly a modern day hippie at heart. She preached peace and love, and didn’t like authority. Her disdain for authority was downplayed back then, however, since no one was really presented as an “oppressor”. Now that she’s a radfem, she hates authority if a MAN is behind it, meaning Blue would be no different since she works for a MAN who left her in charge.

I have a sinking feeling that despite Absinthe’s dilemma and how upset it’s making her that consequences are around the corner, Monique will still encourage her to “stand up to the man” and slack off from her job. Monique’s always been self-centered, this is nothing new, so it would be no surprise she’d fail to see her friend’s pain beyond her own feeling of self-righteousness.

We will no doubt be told to agree with Monique, however, and that’s the issue I’m addressing here. This would be interesting if Absinthe had to stand up to her only friend, a task that is easier said than done when you have no one else in your life, in order to assert her job trouble isn’t as trivial as Monique has been making it out to be. But that’s clearly what won’t happen, because it would be interesting.

Again, Monique was a hippie-like character back in the old days of Sinfest, so her only instinct about jobs is to slack off and rebel when your boss scolds you for not doing what you were paid to do. Now that her hippie ideals are fused with radfem ideals, Monique feels entitled to a lavish lifestyle, simply for being a woman in a man’s world. She’s been pushing this way of thinking on Absinthe since the day they met, and it’s clear as day she’s not as good of an influence as she thinks.

The sad reality of the world is that it’s okay to maintain your pride and dignity…but pride and dignity won’t keep you housed and fed. You want a comfy lifestyle? Pay the piper. Absinthe only has what she has because she works for it, even though she doesn’t particularly like her job. However, it’s arguably better than her old one (in atmosphere, treatment, requirements, and payment), so swallowing her pride isn’t asking much. However, playing hooky, sneaking an unauthorized friend into the workplace, slacking off, and neglecting assigned tasks are a good way to get fired at worst and demoted at best. Monique has shamelessly encouraged Absinthe’s poor working habits and likely doesn’t understand why this is harmful.

Again, this would be an interesting turn of events if this were played for drama. If Monique were shown to be wrong and Absinthe had to call her out of her selfishness. If Absinthe got in real, status quo-changing trouble with her employers.

Unfortunately, this is new Sinfest and Tats hasn’t touched the status quo since the Sisterhood showed up. Blue’s preoccupied with the revelation of what the killer robot went through and it hit a sore spot. Absinthe and Monique will have slapstick antics of trying to hide their screw up, and Blue will either not notice or just not care because she made herself sad.

I think one of the saddest things about new Sinfest is that there is clearly potential for good-to-decent ideas strewn around…but Tats will always take the lazy way out and only embellish story (increasingly poorly) in the Sunday strips. He drags the story on its ass until Sunday, when he scoots it along further. That’s why this storyline hasn’t gone anywhere. Tats has lost the ability to convey a story.

Not gonna lie, I didn't Lo L. I outright laughed. I can't even REMEMBER the last time a Sinfest comic did that. So now, Imma ruin it by bringing up unhappy memories.

The last time we saw God was in a Sunday comic where he was crying enough to flood towns, and was only stopped by Xanthe manhandling his hand in order to make him get a hold of himself.
