Yeah I noticed that there wasn't many choices in her story but I was thinking that maybe something in Act I could influence it.

@Kay If it makes you feel better, I plan on doing Hanako's route and probably would have made the same mistake. So... not are you only not alone in that, but you inadvertently saved me!smile

@Kay: When I heard about that ending, I started to really despise Hanako. Now, I'm worried to play that game, fearing that it will spoil my enjoyment. Among other reasons.

B-But she... yelled at me. ;-;

[up] She's not faultless either, but her reaction is understandable.

[up]It is? How did she expect Hisao to know that she hated that before exploding in his face? It's not exactly intuitive for Hisao to figure out.

It's very understandable, yes. The fact that these bad ends exist is a boon to the game and improves it considerably, first by simply being very powerful, and secondly by being a display of how the game doesn't shy away from ripping expectations about character archetypes away from underneath your feet for the sake of showing you how real people work.

@Kay: Suck it up, buttercup.

I've been lucky enough to not get any bad ends yet. Still stalled on Lily's route and haven't played Shizune, though.

kay, the only way to get Hanako to unyell at you is to get the Good End. Science proves it. Now woman up and romance the fuck out of that library girl.

@Fawriel: Hmm, maybe it's a good thing I haven't played past act 1. This sounds like the complete opposite of what I'd like. Even in act 1, there were things I didn't understand and it seemed way too serious, depressing, and ... I don't know, but I didn't like. Maybe I should just stay away and stick to things like Tsukihime.

You get the bad ends by coddling her and not trusting her to be able to do anything. You don't treat people like that if they're supposed to be your equal.

I do admit that the choices leading up to that aren't always entirely transparent. It's actually very sneaky, and I almost fell prey to it myself. The most significant choice is whether you invite Hanako to go do stuff in town, or if you don't. The writer expected that if you decide to stay, it's because you expected that choice to endanger Hanako. I did expect that, but I saved and tried to see what happens if I do invite her. And I was pleasantly surprised, because, you know. It's just a question, and if she didn't want to, she could just say "no".

It's pretty beautiful, really, even if it's just little bit cruel.

I dunno, Shizune's good end didn't really balance out the soul crushing bad end.

And I got the bad end deliberately for 100% Completion. I didn't expect it to have so many feels ;-;

Rin's is also pretty melancholy either way, but I stand by my ridiculous generalization!

@Fawriel

It's not like I didn't think of her as my equal, I just didn't want to make her feel uncomfortable or awkward and thus decided that we could spend time alone. I also wanted to be careful around her, since she had a panic attack in class and all of that.

I just wanted to make her feel loved. sad

@doc: Hrm. You do what you think is right for you, then.

@kay: Trust me, you want to go back in there and get the good end. It will flush that regret right out of you.

You know, I have a crush on Rin, right? And Hanako's a close second-favorite of mine. I didn't really get that "in love" feeling for her throughout the entire story. But I do get that when I think of the very last thing you see in it.

(Assuming that no one here's gonna judge me for admitting that I have crushes on fictional characters.)

Doctrain, as bad as the bad endings are, the good endings are great. I particularly liked Emi's good ending, although Hanako & Rin's come close. Lilly was also pretty good, although Shizune's was, to me, rather forgettable.

I know, I know! I'm not judging you for your choices! Sometimes, people are complicated. But that's what this game is all about - learning to understand people. The good end will not only make you feel better about it all, but will also help you understand better.

Reading about it, none of the routes appeal to me. Either the girls hate white knighting — acting defensive as if I should have known that already — or they are deconstructions of what interested me in them. Ah, deconstruction in a love game. Let me shamelessly plagiarize Wrestlecrap: It's like if I went to an Italian restaurant, ordered a medium pizza, and got a hamburger. Sure, it might be a good hamburger, but it's not what I expected going there. In fact, I'd like to stay far away from that place.

I felt personally offended when I heard Rin's route was a deconstruction of Cloud Cuckoo Lander, as that is what attracted me to her in the first place. I wonder if it's my Asperger's acting up. It takes me a long time to really get down a rule of conduct (Be Nice to People) that when I encounter something that seems to go against it (Don't White Knight), I get defensive and really angry. I don't need a game to remind me of that flaw.

I deeply apologize for writing this and possibly going off-topic.
