& Eiji Aonuma can say that, but Hyrule Warriors shows the timelines merging and then in the very next mainline game the timelines are merged, so... 
Age of Calamity is the real Hyrule Warriors 2 even if it got rid of the series crossover aspect from the first one.
I have a crackpot theory that Hyrule Warriors 1 happens in the timeline branch created by Age of Calamity.

Disregarding the official Zelda timeline on the grounds that it is dumb and makes no sense, has anyone considered that the OG Imprisoning War happened in the child timeline?
People used to say Ocarina of Time itself was the Imprisoning War, segueing into the adult timeline where Ganon is, uh, imprisoned. But a bunch of details don't add up. The Sages in A Link to the Past are all men, whereas in Double-Oh-Tea they're mostly women. And, oh yeah, there's no actual war.
You know what does have those things? Twilight Princess.
What if OoT/Mm!Link and Zelda set off the War when Link returned from the future? And what if it ended with the all-male child timeline Sages imprisoning Ganondorf in the Twilit Realm?
Consider also that in both ALttP and TP, the Master Sword is in the Lost Woods.
I'm probably far from the first to think of it, but I think I'm on to something.
It's not a sequel to the first Hyrule Warriors, so no, not really?
Age of Calamity is more a spinoff to Breath of the Wild then a sequel to Hyrule Warriors 1.

People only called OoT the Imprisoning War back when it was relatively new, and even then details not matching was pretty obvious. For the longest time the usual theory was that Four Swords Adventures was the Imprisoning War or some kind of lead-up to it.

Thanks to Skyward Sword, there's a timeline where Demise was killed by a crashing island, and the one where he was killed in battle with Link.
Demise is supposedly a being that transcends time somehow, so.....

You'd think that with recent DVDs of Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog and Mega Man (Ruby-Spears) having their cover art be parodies of actual games, they could've done something similar with The Legend of Zelda (1989), like a cartoon version of Link on the cover of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild?

The three OOT timelines has one of the three Triforce wielders taking care of the aftermath of the events of the OOT game.
The Child timeline has Link (Courage). The Adult timeline has Zelda (Wisdom). The Downfall timeline has Ganon/Ganondorf (Power).

There's something fitting about how the Ganon timeline has Ganondorf reduced to a mere shell of his former shelf and more of a monster who relies more on brute force and might but is far less intelligent than his other selves.
Twinrova's botched ritual really fucked him up that even reincarnation couldn't restore him.

Which is funny because it's clearly a retcon to justify Zelda I's place at the end of the timeline.
The original Zelda on NES heavily implied that Ganon is smart and devious, able to capture Zelda instead of killing her and sending his minions to find the Triforce of Wisdom. Tie-in materials relating to NES Zelda all point to Ganon being capable of speech and coming up with new evil plans. And it makes sense back then because he just a Bowser-expy at the time, being Maou the Demon King and all.
It's just that Nintendo made Ganon more impressive in the prequels, going from Prince of Darkness to Great King of Evil and have far more elaborate planning involved. And then give his backstory as a regular human thief who got lucky in finding the Triforce.
Had the Zelda timeline moved forward instead of backwards, it is very likely that Ganon would just be a demon from the underworld who constantly becomes more powerful over time, akin to Dracula in Castlevania.

Yeah but the Hyrule Historia explains it as Twinrova's botched ritual affecting him even after he's been reborn.
Funnily enough, the same book that claimed Ganon in the downfall timeline was a mere shadow of his former self also revealed that the wizard in the backstory of Zelda 2, was actually Ganon or at least a minion of his. So Ganon is still capable of impressive plots.
Also great you compared him to Castlevania Dracula, since classic Ganon has vampire vibes.

It does make Ganon turning into a bat to escape after we defeat Agahnim to be some pretty funny early installment weirdness.
