Because Kinkajou told me to.
So yeah, anything about Final Fantasy! I guess this would make a good starting point: Which are your favorite games in the series and why?
My two all-time favorites are tied between Final Fantasy V and Final Fantasy IX. They're both very fun games that don't take themselves too seriously while still being legitimately emotional. On top of that, Zidane is my favorite Final Fantasy lead in the entire series. He's light-hearted, fun, and a generally nice guy to be around. FFV also has the advantage of having one of, if not the best, Job System in an FF game. Both FFV and FFIX make characters customizable while keeping them all unique in their own way. I'm also very fond of Final Fantasy I; it hasn't aged well, but it's classic, and like FFV, I played it tons as a kid.
I assume we'll drift around to various other FF-related discussions as the topic grows, right?

(2) I never played it. The skips were games I didn't play so I couldn't comment on the quality of their endings/how "beautiful" they were. I should have included XIV in there too.
When I was younger I wasn't aware of the game's Hate Dom but around that time I was focused on school, so it just fell under my radar. By the time I came back to the series 13 was out and I was addicted to that (and then I got to Taejin's Tower and hated the game for all time). By that point I'd already absorbed a lot of the game's criticism through osmosis and just subconsciously avoided it.
So, I skipped it because it wasn't fair to evaluate it on that basis.
I'M MR. MEESEEKS, LOOK AT ME!I'll agree with Laguna (and honestly, the game should've been just about Laguna, who is both more personable than Squall, has a much better Romance (two of them!) and is honestly more personally involved in the plot). But Seifer?
Seifer never stops being an asshole. It's not like Seifer ever stops being a villain, has a change of heart, a Heel Realization, a Heel–Face Turn. No. Dude's a fucking villain and a willing accomplice to a mass murderer and he only reason he stops being one is coz you punch him in the dick so many times and you kill his boss. Seifer's ending is so unearned, it's honestly sickening. Like, how many people died when he triggered the Lunar Cry and wrecked Esthar City? But hey, at least the mass murderer gets a fishing trip with his friends (fans? Like, Seifer never even shows he cares for Fujin or Raijin). And the worst part everything Seifer does, it's not even out of some misguided goal to try to make the world better. No. He just really wants to be a knight to a Sorceress.

For me, IX has the most emotional ending, followed by XII. Also, Tactics has a very memorable ending due to "was it really worth it?" twist, and VI is well staged.

What about VII's ending? What do you think of that?
VII is way too abrupt. I always felt like there was supposed to be another cutscene or two. I like the game's story overall, and the ending build up is good, but then it just ends.
Seifer's an idiot
Heart of StoneVII's probably my favorite ending. We get a nice lead in to Meteor's impact and a good send off for the cast, Cloud gets his resolution, and than we're left to wonder what happened in the end.
Allegedly the Compilation has been declared non-canon as of the remake, too, so hopefully they keep the ending ambiguous with it.
Honestly, none of the endings really stick out to me. Most just generic "yay, everything's now fine." Best I'd probably give it to XII which gives a big sense of all that's been accomplished. Even if like the entire game it spends to much time on Vaan.
Idiocy =/= Having a romantic dream that will one day be told!
I'M MR. MEESEEKS, LOOK AT ME!As a cautionary tale, as Seifer, one of his world's greatest monster and murder, completely escapes punishment.
Look, in a world where the highest academic institutes are running out of hot dogs, hell, in a world where those same institutions authorize their creepy-ass staff members to give cursed magical lamps to their students, Seifer's villainy is trivial in comparison.
And let's not even start◊ on the horrible things that the so-called heroes◊ do in this game.

I'M MR. MEESEEKS, LOOK AT ME!That last art...
Just...holy shit.
My favourite ending is Lightning Returns. Not many games have closure like that.
Life is more fun with infinite MP.Well not many games have their leads go to France for a holiday so...
I'm quite confident in my shitposting you knowSay, how come Square never released any games on Sega consoles?
There wasn't any real reason to. The Genesis/Mega Drive wasn't very successful in Japan. Even the PC Engine/TurboGrafx-16 sold better there. That's why there were hardly any RPGs on the system in general outside the couple series Sega themselves published. Similar things can be said about the Game Gear.
The Saturn did pretty well in Japan, but it was overshadowed by the Playstation. There were actually a good number of notable JRPGs on the system, but almost all of them were also ported to the Playstation. When Square was making FFVII they found that the Playstation's hardware was the best fit for what they wanted to do, and Sony even helped in some part, at the least they published and heavily marketed the game in the west. So there was really no good reason for them ever make a Saturn game when they could just focus on the Playstation.
And the Dreamcast just wasn't around very long before Sega had to quit making consoles. The only JRPGs on it I can even think of right now were either published by Sega or were updated ports of PS1 games. And Square by that point was probably already full into making FFX and other games for the PS2 after they had such a good run with the PS1.
Imagine if they tried to develop FFVII for the Saturn. lol
Well, XIII was initially conceived as a PS 2 game.
Life is more fun with infinite MP.Sony threw money at them to put VII on it, probably far far more than Sega or Nintendo could fork up.
They are throwing money at it again with VIIR which is a Sony exclusive.

FFVII was pretty much the first RPG to gain major advertising in the US.
Apparently they've tried to outsource FF to the west at least twice now, but without success.
If you ask me, it was for the best. I can't see ANY Western developer doing a Final Fantasy game regardless of their track record.
Opera Omnia is doing reruns of Squall, Vanille, and Setzer if you missed them.
I think they've been permanently added? Not too sure tho.
Heart of Stone
Honestly, I think most Final Fantasy games have pretty satisfying endings. IX is probably my favorite though.
