Final Fantasy general

Go To

Because Kinkajou told me to.

So yeah, anything about Final Fantasy! I guess this would make a good starting point: Which are your favorite games in the series and why?

My two all-time favorites are tied between Final Fantasy V and Final Fantasy IX. They're both very fun games that don't take themselves too seriously while still being legitimately emotional. On top of that, Zidane is my favorite Final Fantasy lead in the entire series. He's light-hearted, fun, and a generally nice guy to be around. FFV also has the advantage of having one of, if not the best, Job System in an FF game. Both FFV and FFIX make characters customizable while keeping them all unique in their own way. I'm also very fond of Final Fantasy I; it hasn't aged well, but it's classic, and like FFV, I played it tons as a kid.

I assume we'll drift around to various other FF-related discussions as the topic grows, right?

The cast may or may not be self-aware Manikins with memories of the person they're based on

Nah that was why Sephiroth committed suicide in the backstory of the old Dissidia, to test his theory that the cast where only manakins and not actual people. In the new Dissidia they actually leave behind a perfect manakin replica when they return to their new world.

Warrior of Light definitely is a manikin and Garland definitely isn't one. That's all I know.

No he just turned himself into one to hide from Shinryu.

IIRC, he probably looks closer to Warrior of Light.

Shit, I missed LVL 4 Holy for Quina.

Now I'm trying to get 1000 Needles but I keep killing the Cactuar.

Oh my god I set everyone on Auto and a Cactuar showed up and spammed 1000 Needles. I probably would have lost 2 hours of progress had Quina not petrified it.

It happened again so I guess I can't start fights with Auto on.

Thank god there's autosave.

Why does this game give you two White Mages anyway? They really should have made one a Paladin instead of a Summoner.

I gotta ask. Is the online environment as bad as some Blizzard games or it's less toxic? (I'm sure it's still toxic, but I wanna know its intensity)

As a rule of thumb, I mostly avoid ranked-based onlines just so I don't have to deal with these tryhards.

Dissidia NT, obviously.

If by which game you mean Blizzard games... Uh, pick any. It's Blizzard. The generator of one of the worst fandoms out there that it doesn't matter which game.

Well there are a lot of Final Fantasy online communities FFXI, FFXIV, Dissidia, FFXV etc. which is why I asked.

Well it’s made to be a ‘competitive team based fighter’ so expect Overwatch levels of salt, However it’s Online is peer-to-peer connections instead of servers so expect a lot of salt cause of lag from all but the host of the game, hosts are chosen at random.

I'm really not sure what Dissidia's core audience is intended to be as far as the competitive side goes. It 'feels like a fighting game, since there are wall combos, frame traps, blocking, counters, etc.

But being team based and borrowing more than a little DNA from arena based MMORP Gs like Wow's arena makes it pretty alien to fighting game fans. Since no one has any flashy ultimates any more and support characters only provide invisible, passive buffs, the team element isn't featured very well outside two or more guys ganging up on one person. Individual plays usually aren't all that hype the way a clutch Lucio cliff kill or High Noon can be, and the game is way too rigid and deliberately paced for that sort of thing overall anyway. It's completely unintuitive to follow if you've never played a Dissidia, too, so that cuts out the Overwatch and TF 2 crowd.

I was getting nostalgic and bought Theatrhythm Curtain Call. It's really nice to have all those songs on a 3DS! I only played 0-2 songs per title so far, for some reason I get better results on songs I don't know [lol] Also, the game refuses to register Up comand half of the time, it screwed me from hitting all Critical on my first run of Terra's Theme since it gave me one Bad... I mostly use stylus, and even when I try doing longer strokes, it still seem to register them as taps instead.

Curtain Call reminded me why I hate rhythm games even though I love the Final Fantasy soundtrack.

Sadly, yes. Aside from Eiko, Vivi, and Amarant, they don't seem particularly game-changing for boss fights either.

You can solo and/or break a lot of bosses easily with Freya's, since it involves her leaving the screen for so long.

I think they made them the way they did to account for how easy it was to exploit them in VII and VIII, but they went way too far in the other direction.

Zidane sulking in a bar because he realizes he can never be with Garnet is probably my favourite scene in the whole game.

That and Steiner and Beatrix's wacky hookup.

So one of the things Tekken likes to do is add weird customization options, and sometimes they get bizarrely specific.

Noctis can have RPG style numbers when he deals hits with one of his. They're not actually accurate but it's a fun goofy thing.

Dammit I forgot to fight Tantarian.

Oh good now we're at the part where Garnet sucks.

One of the things I like about FFIX's constant death and despair is that it shows the aftermath of it. You see people pick up their shambled lives and ruined cities and begin putting the pieces back together.

Now to grind AP because the game took Freya and Steiner away for like 8 hours.
