Because Kinkajou told me to.
So yeah, anything about Final Fantasy! I guess this would make a good starting point: Which are your favorite games in the series and why?
My two all-time favorites are tied between Final Fantasy V and Final Fantasy IX. They're both very fun games that don't take themselves too seriously while still being legitimately emotional. On top of that, Zidane is my favorite Final Fantasy lead in the entire series. He's light-hearted, fun, and a generally nice guy to be around. FFV also has the advantage of having one of, if not the best, Job System in an FF game. Both FFV and FFIX make characters customizable while keeping them all unique in their own way. I'm also very fond of Final Fantasy I; it hasn't aged well, but it's classic, and like FFV, I played it tons as a kid.
I assume we'll drift around to various other FF-related discussions as the topic grows, right?

Yes, anything from 1v1 up to 3v3 works.
Thank you.
So, let's see. Based on the trailers so far, the groups are
A. Warrior of Light (I), Cecil (IV), Noctis (XV)
B. Firion (II), Tidus (X), Shantotto (XI)
C. Onion Knight (III), Vaan (XII), Y'shtola (XIV)
That leaves Bartz, Terra, Cloud, Squall, Zidane, and Lightning.
I'm hoping they put Cloud, Squall, and Lightning into one group so they can be Team Weather (and partially also because I'd like to see if Zidane tries to flirt with Terra).
They might keep Bartz, Squall and Zidane as a team since they where popular as a trio before.
They might want to spread out Zidane and Bartz though to dole out some smiles to those sourpusses.
We did get some of that trio in Wo FF.
Terra: ...
Lightning: ...
Terra: ...
Kain: ...
Squall: ...
Sephiroth: ...
Cloud: ...
Fujin: ...RAGE!

Green Haired Terra is best Terra.
One Strip! One Strip!Half those characters aren't nearly as quiet as you're saying.
x4 They probably teamed up Tidus and Shantotto for the same reason and added in Firion cuz he had good rapport with Tidus in the original Dissidia too.

This is partly just a Pet Peeve so forgive me for bringing this up out of nowhere, but the Wo FF snippet kinda highlights one of SE's bigger recurring problems for me, i.e for whatever reason they always have to make everyone sound as melodramatic as possible. Like, the situation itself makes sense and all from a character standpoint, but I don't get why they have to make it sound so cheesy and stilted. Terra sounds like a Kingdom Hearts character (see:not a good thing), and "there's not a thing I don't cherish!" will always be a rubbish line. It's like they have no self-awareness lol

Noct and Vaan are pretty good at being casual but Cecil is probably the worst about it.
That might be a Cecil thing though.
The Lightning voice coming out of that little Funko Pop is the best thing ever.
Isn't Woff meant to be a little tongue in cheek, by the river?
Yeah, some of that lack of self awareness is intentional, but a lot of it really is just that.
XIII has this really bizarre inconsistent tone where in some instances the characters sound and act like modern day human beings and in others like overwrought wannabe pseudo-Shakespearian philosophers. I think a lot of their writers don't quite know how to balance the two.

Of their staff I think Matsuno was the only one who could really write dialogue that was consistently good, or at least it was decent enough that Alex O. Smith was able to elevate it into something great.
XIV's dialogue was also fairly good from what I remember, but I haven't played much of it.

XIV doesn't try to be casual at all, its faux Shakespearean over the top all the time but it doesn't try to be anything else so it can get away with it I think.
It's not really about being casual IMO, it's about having natural-sounding dialogue that flows well, whether you're going for a more naturalistic, modern-day sounding type of writing or something more flowery and theatrical like Wot L or XII and Vagrant Story. Either is valid, you just have to be good at it.
I like the dialogue in XV with the main cast, but that's probably because the VO talent is so good.
It's pretty natural and consistent, yeah.
I'm curious how much is the original writing and how much is the translation. How lines are worded and voice acted do affects things. I happened to find a video of that above WoFF video in Japanese, and comparing the two, the original writing isn't anything special, it feels like all this is happening just to set up Cloud saying a famous line from Advent Children. But the English voice acting and phrasing feels more stilted to me, and I can see now why a lot of Japanese fans think Cloud's English voice doesn't sound right.
They also changed what Terra says quite a bit and it doesn't work as well, for one thing they completely got rid of the Terra setting up Cloud's "cherish" line by asking about what's important using the same words for "important" or "precious" that his line uses. Also, while the line "taisetsu janai mono nanka nai" is maybe something that sounded cooler in the writer's head, it doesn't sound like something no one would ever say, like "there's not a thing I don't cherish!"
Cloud is an All-Loving Hero. Die mad about it.
jk I'm memeing.
So at the core of it it's the same reason all of Dissidia's dialogue sounds like nonsense than: they're too busy making references and fellating themselves to write good dialogue.
Makes sense, and explains why Cloud just randomly says "Not Interested" and nothing else in the WOFF demo, since きょみないね is Cloud's catch phrase in Japanese but means fuck all to us in the west.

Heh they can make some pretty looking shit but they can't write shit?
Thats funny.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."
Has it been confirmed whether or not there will be one on one options for fights?
From what I've seen it seems like it will be an option - it's clearly possible with the engine if all those character trailers are an indication - but even so, an official word would be appreciated.
