Final Fantasy general

Because Kinkajou told me to.

So yeah, anything about Final Fantasy! I guess this would make a good starting point: Which are your favorite games in the series and why?

My two all-time favorites are tied between Final Fantasy V and Final Fantasy IX. They're both very fun games that don't take themselves too seriously while still being legitimately emotional. On top of that, Zidane is my favorite Final Fantasy lead in the entire series. He's light-hearted, fun, and a generally nice guy to be around. FFV also has the advantage of having one of, if not the best, Job System in an FF game. Both FFV and FFIX make characters customizable while keeping them all unique in their own way. I'm also very fond of Final Fantasy I; it hasn't aged well, but it's classic, and like FFV, I played it tons as a kid.

I assume we'll drift around to various other FF-related discussions as the topic grows, right?

Yeah, I did. And so I can't directly compare to what the fan translation wrote, but yeah, Sendak is really into Byuu. What with asking if he can hold on to Byuu while on the dragons the same way Yoyo did, talking to himself about his unrequited love, and commenting on how round Byuu's butt is. It seems to be one of the more famous parts of the game among Japanese fans.

I didn't play Bahamut Lagoon for very long but my initial impression was that the spritework was pretty good and the music was dope.

As I wait for next week to buy FFIX on Steam, I'm replaying some FFIII Steam version and man, the beginning really is kind of dull. It was even kind of dull the first time I played it but at least everything was new. But the first set of Jobs are so boring and you're stuck with them for a long, long time. Now I know how much time I have until I get access to more interesting playstyles, I'm very impatient.

I want to play a very different way than I did my last run where I kept Red Mage/White Mage/Monk through the entire game. But, again, stuck with these first few bare-bones jobs for so long.

So he's a villain, or are you saying his sons had no souls at all so he just took over empty vessels?

Odd thought: is Quina legally the other parent of Vivi's children? Since they got married in Conde Petie.

Honestly, it took me years to catch the implication that the original Vivi died sometime after the final battle. I just assumed he somehow made more of himself, but it never occurred to me that he was gone, even though the game had been hammering home that he didn't have much time left.

So Yoichi Wada has said that if XV doesn't do well, the franchise will probably be canned?

...wow.

So, any Harry Potter fans here?

What Houses do you think various FF characters would fit in?

Inspired by a thread elsewhere about Evil Gryffindors/Heroic Slytherins. Caius is a good example of an Evil Gryffindor. Brave, chivalrous and out to destroy the universe because of it.

For Heroic Slytherins, Amarant is a good example.

Rinoa is a great Hufflepuff.

I have no idea for a Ravenclaw.

[up] Wow, heavy shit.

[up][up] Source?

That's not a COMPLETELY ridiculous statement given the ridiculous marketing campaign and localization expenses they've poured into it, but I can't imagine the game doing badly anyways so I think we're fine. Maybe it'll perform slightly below expectations or something, but nothing too drastic.

I read it on our very own Dork Age page just a few minutes ago. I'm really wondering if it's real.

In general I would hold a healthy degree of sketicism for anything mentioned on TVT without a link to a source.

And, last I checked, FFXIV is still making a ton of money, and people are really excited for World of Final Fantasy.

Also Wada might have even made a comment talking about the future of the series relative to FFXV's success, but people very regularly misconstrue statements and build up hyperboles that aren't really supported by the original statement.

Yoichi Wada already resigned as CEO 3 years ago, and fully left the company last year. Why would he be making statements about FF 15 now and why would they matter?

Nothing comes up when I search about it, so that statement is either made up, or an exaggeration of some vague statement made years ago.

Tabata has said the opposite after people brought it up to him so remove it. One game can't sink a franchise when the company is going + while heavily promoting it and it won't be out for a few more months. This isn't Sakaguchi and his movie.

Edit: I'm removing the entire entry because it takes up none of the reasons why SE did sequels and didn't focus on new games while remaking FFXIV and trying to survive after the movie almost killed them. It also pretends that XV was in full production for a decade while in reality it was only the last 4 years.

Edit 2: Patch 3.4.

World of Final Fantasy is great, but I'd of really liked a classic RPG crossover with like half the mainline FF cast on consoles, too. It's great that this exists, don't get me wrong, but I hope they don't always relegate these kind of games to phone games with gachas and such.

Also, Steiner is way more intense sounding than I ever imagined him.

Trailer.
