Horii: “There isn’t anything planned at the moment, but there is a possibility for it in the future.”
What’s your opinion on smartphone games?
Horii: “I don’t think that the success of smartphone games should be a reason to only make games for smartphones. I really think that games have to be designed for different platforms. Dragon Quest XI will, for example, be a game designed for home console because it will be designed for a controller.”
A few years ago, you made Dragon Quest Swords, a first-person Wii adventure game where use of the Wii Remote was very important. Does the age of virtual reality make you want to experiment with new concepts such as this?
Horii: “It’s amazing! I personally had the opportunity to try Project Morpheus, and it’s a very strange feeling. I really felt there was a girl next to me. Another demo had a shark, which was very impressive and realistic. If time allows it, I’d really like to make a Dragon Quest game using this technology.”

And to be fair, while NoA really dropped the ball with the SNES remakes on the DS, they did a solid job with IX in terms of scripting.
Here's hoping the English dub gang gets back together for VIII 3D- I'd imagine only a handful of lines would need to be added, after all.

It's not like they're using no-name and internal employees anymore, though- They've been calling in Laura Bailey and Spike Spencer and so on. Their localizations have been very solid for a few years now.

To be fair, the awful puns were in the Japanese versions too. It's part of their charm overseas.
... I do kinda miss the more serious translations of earlier games, though.

It'll be nice playing VIII and a VIII-like VII with less imposing load times. The 3DS isn't immune, in spite of using cartridges, but it's really speedy with 'em, at least.

I don't even have a 3DS, so the point is moot anyways (if I DID have one, I'd be playing Omega Ruby nonstop, not to mention getting back to Platinum and stuff). A guy can dream, though!
