So I'm interested, but I've got an assortment of ideas and I'm undecided. Also unsure whether I want to spring these ideas without prior discussion.
It's clearly a case of backroom political albumizing.

Alright so, here's the four potential concepts I've thought up:
- Character who kind of realized how forced their like of magical girls was and by the time the game starts is a trans guy.
- Character has spent the last like 15 years or so being a magical girl themed vigilante in an attempt to do through mundane means what magic didn't give her.
- A character who even given magic powers is still unemployed, has no tertiary education, is living with aging parents and has little hope of actually getting into an actually good life state.
- Character who kind of end up upset that she was rejected all those years ago and has become highly critical of magical girls as a concept. Maybe she has become a therapist and has seen first-hand what the stresses of fighting monsters does to younger magical girls.
They are, as my characters often are, kind of about exploring the possibility space of the concept and I want to make it clear that I do intend to play the character sincerely, this isn't joke concepts.
It's clearly a case of backroom political albumizing.
Honestly, I like them all... though the third does hit pretty darn close to home.

Working on my character profile, whereabouts is the RP set? I'm guessing Tokyo where it all started?

Tokyo's a fine place to do this, though if this really gets going, I might throw in a world travel arc. We shall see. My character (and our mascot, because every self-respecting magical girl team needs one 
), will be up on Thursday.

Here we go, a two for one special!
First up, our lovely mascot!
Name: Aliana Glitterwing
Age: Don't you know better than to ask a lady that question? 
Sexuality: Asexual
Appearance: Standing a whopping six inches tall, Aliana looks like a prototypical Western fairy straight out of central casting. Her hair is a very pale pink, and her eyes a deep emerald green. She wears a green dress- it's impossible to tell if it's actually sewn from plants or just magically looks like it- and she has four iridescent dragonfly wings coming out of her back. Her skin is somewhat tanned, with little gold sparkles constantly surrounding her.
Personality: Aliana is perpetually cheerful and has a bright-eyed look on the world. She tries her best to be honest but can sometimes come off as a little blunt. She has a big thing for politeness and tends to be a bit spacey.
Backstory: Aliana has been searching for a group of girls to empower for some time now. However, her standards have been high- probably unrealistically so- and nobody's been worthy yet. But when trouble threatens and she needs a solution now, she decides to throw caution and convention alike to the winds.
And now, for our first magical girl! I wasn't thinking that our team would have a particular theme, but if enough people ask, I can certainly revise part of my sheet.
The Mundane:
Name: Alexandra Saunders
Age: 32
Sexuality: Asexual Homoromantic
Appearance: Five foot seven, 140 lbs. Brown hair in a waterfall cut, blue eyes. Extremely pale. Has a small scar on her right cheek. Tends to wear a lot of dark clothes and emphasizes comfort over fashion.
Personality: Kind, sweet, and quiet, Alexandra doesn't like to draw attention to herself. Usually, she's either buried in her paintings or reading a book. Has a love of science fiction.
Backstory: Alexandra's childhood can be summed up in two words: army brat. Dad spent his life bouncing from post to post, kid in tow, until he finally got assigned to guard duty at the U.S. Embassy in Tokyo when Alexandra (never Alex, Alexa, or any other diminutive) was a teenager. He finally got a steady billet, and she found a place she loved. So much so, in fact, that when she graduated from Tokyo University with a fine arts degree, she decided to stay in Nippon, making her career as a painter.
The Magical
Name: Raiju Thunder
Appearance: Alexandra's costume is rather unique in that it's a blue dress made purely of electrical energy, which seems to flow around her with every movement. White boots and a blue cape with a wolflike white raiju emblem complete the effect.
General Powers/Theme: Lightning and Electricity
Minor Attacks/Abilities
Lightning Quick: Alexandra's reflexes are sped up when transformed
Electroball: A thrown orb of electricity to damage foes
Shock Punch: An electricity-enhanced punch. Not much more to it than that.
Medium Attacks/Abilities
Lightning Leap: Alexandra turns herself into living electricity to travel to any spot within visual range. Essentially a short-distance teleport
Thunderbeam: Alexandra conjures a beam of electricity from her hands Kamehameha style. Capable of damaging up to three foes.
Major Attack:
Raijin Wrath Blaster: Alexandra creates a giant ball of electricity in her hands, which fires off up to five large lightning bolts that each strike an enemy for heavy damage.
Magical Weapon/Item: N/A
Transformation Item: A necklace with a gold pendant in the shape of crossed lightning bolts.

Stark Holmes
The mundane:
Name: Helen Korda-Yano
Age: 40
Sexuality: straight
Appearance: An average sized middle-aged woman, always found with glasses in a grey suit and tie even out of her job. Has short brown hair and eyes, along with a pinkish face.
Personality: Chill and reserved but usually exhausted. Keeps up a soft smile no matter the dire situation. Despite that, she’s willing to give out a hand and be a constant in other’s lives. Sometimes when the chance comes, she shows a wilder, crazy side.
Backstory: During her childhood in London, she spent her time fascinated by the rise of magical girls. It was often an escape from a boring school and home life. But Helen’s interest flamed out like so many by the time she was an adult. Her aspirations to change the world hit with the reality that she was an undergraduate with few options. Deciding to let her dreams die and settle completely in going back to school, she became hugely successful in her classes. She eventually moved to Japan for her now-husband Tenji, and stayed because of how nice it felt to be away from the rest of the world. Fifteen years later, she has a steady job as an accountant.
The magical:
Name: Jetta Bows
Appearance: Now sporting flaming orange hair, Helen now has a checkered black-and-orange dress and skirt that has a mind of its own. She also has similarly sharp tap-shoes and bracelets.
General Powers/Theme: Flames
Minor Attacks/Abilities:
- Hot In Here: The area around Helen increases in temperature, affecting all object and creatures’ abilities in the aura except for her. Can last a few turns per day.
- Boost: Using quick burst of fire from her legs, Helen can jump higher or glide from above. Lasts less than a minute though.
- Burning Palms: Similar to boost but from her hands, a small pillar of fire blasts from her hands and move around.
Medium Attacks/Abilities:
- Snap: At the snap of her fingers and direct eyesight, Helen can spawn a two-foot wide fireball which gets thrown towards an enemy in her path.
- Insta-Fire: With a lot of concentration, Helen can set a body part of an enemy on fire. If it continues to stay on fire depends on the area and enemy’s reaction.
Major Attack:
- Fiery Breath: With all her might, Helen can spew a flamethrower’s worth of fire from her mouth and towards anything in her path, and can even move around during this form.
Magical weapon: None.
Transformation item: A pen with a flaming skull design on its side.

Awesome! Then here goes....
The mundane:
Name: Ruby Walker
Age: 38
Sexuality: Lesbian
Appearance: 173cm tall (5'8"), long straight dark-brown hair, green eyes. She likes to wear blue tops and grey skirts.
Personality: Ruby has to put on a smile at work, but inwardly she has never recovered from losing her sister (see below) and is depressive and finds it hard to reach out to others. She de-stresses by playing video games, and has a whole other personality when gaming: competitive, aggressive, and a bit inclined to gloat when she wins.
Backstory: Growing up, Ruby was really close to and protective of her sister Stephanie (4 years younger), and her fantasies of being a magical girl often involved saving her sister from monsters. Nothing like this ever happened, and they both grew up, and Stephanie moved away to the big city life in Birmingham (UK) while Ruby worked as a waitress in the sisters' hometown, Oxford.
Then one dark night, Stephanie was hit by a drunk driver and was dead on arrival. Her husband, Michael, was utterly broken by her death and soon moved to Australia, after Ruby had agreed to adopt their infant daughter Erika. Ruby locked away her magical girl memorabilia and would quickly change the subject any time magical girls were mentioned.
Now it's ten years later. Erika is of the age where she in turn is obsessed with magical girls; Ruby isn't happy about this but loves her too much to forbid it. As a reward for Erika doing well in exams, Ruby has agreed to go on holiday with her to Japan. (Both of them speak some Japanese, but Ruby would be the first to admit that Erika is much better at it.)
The magical:
Name: Crystal Rose
Appearance: Long dark-red hair tied with pink ribbons, a pink and white dress, long red boots.
General powers/theme: Ice/snow/cold
Minor attacks/abilities:
- Sakura Blizzard: A flurry of pink snow reduces visibility in a radius of about 5 metres.
- Icicle Shards: Spikes of ice stick up from the ground in a straight line, damaging anything they hit.
- Perfect Freeze: The air around Ruby becomes much colder, slowing down enemies' movement.
Medium attacks/abilities:
- Frost Beam: A beam of cold blue light that deals major damage to enemies it hits.
- Frozen Heart: A narrow beam that stops when it hits one target. A smaller target becomes immobilised as long as Ruby concentrates on maintaining the beam; if the target is larger, the part that's hit is immobilised.
Major attack:
- Mystic Rose: Lines of icicles spread out, forming an eight-pointed star around the target.
Magical weapon: An icy dagger, which Ruby can use to defend herself if a monster tries attacking while she is casting.
Transformation item: A star sapphire bracelet, which Ruby always wears because it was a gift from Stephanie.
Accepted. Surprised we have an RP set in Tokyo and all three characters so far are Western.

It started in Tokyo, twenty years ago. A gigantic turtle-crab ran rampant over the city, until a young girl in a cute costume blasted it to oblivion with beams of neon pink energy. Soon, others like her were popping up all over the world. London, Toronto, Paris, and many more. The age of magical girls had begun.
You waited, hoping against hope that you would get to join their ranks. Making friends, finding true love, beating the bad guys, and looking darn good doing it all. Who wouldn't want that? You read every fangirl magazine you could get your hands on, watched the Youtube videos of their heroic acts, played dress-up in preparation for the day you transformed into an icon of justice for real.
Alas, fate had other plans.
Now, many moons later, you're living a humdrum adult existence. But when you and your friends get a belated shot to live your dreams, will you be able to rise to the occasion?
