I'm cautiously optimistic. I feel like the environments at the very least will look good.

But they at least gotta hire a writer. Also, neither Ball nor Arad have creator pages. We should probably get on that.

I've long been of the opinion that any Zelda adaptation would be better off being animated rather than live action, so I'm immediately kind of conflicted about this.

Admittedly, I would have loved an illumination animated film. For the Smash Bros shared universe.

Hopefully, we’ll still get a Mario sequel at least.

This is Miyamoto. I have been working on the live-action film of The Legend of Zelda for many years now with Avi Arad-san, who has produced many mega hit films.

I have asked Avi-san to produce this film with me, and we have now officially started the development of the film with Nintendo itself heavily involved in the production. It will take time until its completion, but I hope you look forward to seeing it.

Zelda I feel could work both in live-action or animation. It's not an either or proposition. The epic grand scale could work for a more Idealistic type of Game Of Thrones. But you can also do very dark stories in animation to. I am very cautiously optimistic.

You can only write so much in your forum signature. It's not fair that I want to write a piece of writing yet it will cut me off in the mid

Hey, One Piece managed to work in Live Action, and that was one very few had faith in when it was announced, so fantasy series adaptations CAN be done. Let's see what they can do.

Tbh. Zelda could work fine in live action.

Also hope the fight with demon king Ganondorf is as badass as like every Ganondorf fight.

For reference, with the Mario movie, how long did we have to wait after the initial announcement before the movie actually came out?

Miyamoto's strong involvement at least means that we wont get a total bastardization of the series.

Okay when I say a Zelda movie would have been better off being animated I don't mean it should have been building a Smash Bros. shared universe, or even made by Illumination, or similar to The Super Mario Bros. Movie at all really. I just mean I think animated fantasy films are less constrained in their ability to depict fantastical creatures and environments, and Zelda would have benefited from that.

I'm still of the mindset that a Zelda adaptation needs to be animated to capture much of the fantasy elements present in the characters and settings. With live-action, it would need a pretty big budget to have similar results. If not, then the effects would be stretched thin and subpar as a result, or the fantastical elements will need to be toned down.

The Mario movie was announced back in January 2018, but I feel like the pandemic understandably delayed things a bunch.

In a perfect world, Link will be a silent protagonist even on screen.

So what games do we think they will take from?

I mean, the Lord of the Rings films were in live-action, and they're still the gold standard for fantasy films as far as I'm concerned.

More recently you also had Honour Among Thieves, which managed to incorporated many of the fantastical elements of D&D.

[up]An original story would probably be best. That way you can design it around the medium, rather than try to force a game-shaped peg into a film-shaped hole.

I would say that Ball’s history would lean towards BOTW, but then you remember that he tried to get a Mouse Guard movie off the ground at Fox before the Disney buyout.

Original story would be the best bet. Zelda a lot of iconic recurring elements that you could easily use while still telling a new story not directly based on any of the games.
