~BlakeIsHere - youre actually not that far off the mark but if i recall it wasnt the great crash itself, but it was 2008 or thereabouts. some guy named Killer Hack claiming to be from Turkey or Saudi Arabia hacked the site with a message about Allah wanting us to be good
fasteddie restored it and insulted the guy, which caused him to hack it again and leave insults about tropers being detail-obsessed weirdos (which coincidentally would be the rallying cry of SA goons harassing the site later in '12-14)
later another group of hackers claiming to be Killer Hack's friends also hacked the site
i dont remember if it was before or after the first crash

Basically a group of hackers caused The Great Crash. IDK why but I kinda wanna add it to the Wild Mass Guessing sub-page on it now.
