I guess I finally know how the JJK fans feel when they say someone got offscreened, might as well not have bothered with the marketing.

That aside, I give points for how brutal the sequence turns at the end, it really hammers the point that Black Swan severely underestimated Acheron and nearly paid the price for it.

The lore in the video description also gives hints of how dangerous Acheron is since it implies that a) She's likely the one that destroyed her twin homeworlds and b) she's Really 700 Years Old and has killed countless people before reaching Penacony.

I guess the main mystery left to solve is why does she seek the Watchmaker's Legacy.

New Myriad Celestia Trailer shedding some light on Acheron's past.

Interesting to note that Izumo's 12 Sentinels is a reference to HI3's 12 Herrschers, with each blade loosely referencing them through their element/concept. And that's before adding two more blades known as "Origin" and "End".

Moments like these make me wonder if now's the right time for someone to make a Continuity Lockout entry for Honkai: Star Rail. I remember asking the same thing when the game was still new, saying that there are already tons of Mythology Gags, allusions, or references that can only be understood by those who are familiar with miHoYo's past works, especially Honkai Impact 3rd. IIRC, the answer that I got from other Honkai fans back then was that it's best to "wait for more references".

Continuity Lockout requires the story to be difficult to get into for a new fan. Right now, as a new fan, Acheron's backstory feels like it could an extensive videogame of it's own... but it doesn't feel relevant to this videogame. Myriad Celestia raising more questions than they answer is not new

Myriad Celestia implications aside, there are some Honkai Impact 3rd references that appear to be relevant.

• Welt's entire backstory relies much on what happened in Honkai Impact 3rd.
• Remember when Welt is suspicious of Luocha during the latter's Companion Mission? The Freeze-Frame Bonus flashback images that he had are lifted from HI3 and his optional dialogue lines in that room justify him being wary of this Otto-lookalike. Would a miHoYo newcomer immediately understand Welt's reaction just from this game alone?
• The Imaginary Tree is repeatedly brought up in Star Rail, including the recent Penacony quest which involves the NPC Chadwick. The Imaginary Tree is a relevant concept in HI3.

It boils down to just how much can be justified to create a Continuity Lockout entry, judging from how much content the game has now. But other possible factors are that the YMMV may have attracted misuse, or that Continuity Lockout varies depending on the series/franchise?

For example involving different games, a Continuity Lockout entry in Persona 3 Reload says a lot of the humor involving a certain character can be lost to players who aren't familiar with Shin Megami Tensei or the older Persona games... There are instances just like that within the Honkai games too.

I will make the argument that this trailer's backstory could count for Continuity Lockout because the way the Kami are depicted sounds similar to how the Honkai acted in Honkai Impact 3rd. The point of divergence here being that Izumo continued an endless war against the Kami that destroyed it at the end while in HI 3 Kiana was able to figure out what the Honkai actually were and sealed them off in the moon.

Still, I would suggest reserving the Continuity Lockout entry until 2.1 hits and we see what's the deal with Acheron and if more references are included that merit the entry.

This week's Memory of Chaos cycle is even easier than the last. Once again, DoT teams are eating good because of the Trotter mechanic, though Dr. Ratio (mine is now sporting a full set of Deep Dive) also shines because the slain Trotter applies tons of debuffs to all enemies.

The issue is that containing references to a previous work is not enough to be a continuity lockout, you need to actively exclude players who are not "in the know". But this clearly doesn't. At its heart it's not hard to understand, she was one of a dozen special warriors who fought an army of monsters in a conflict that destroyed her civilization.

All the allusions just deepen the experience for those of us who do know. It's not required to grasp what's going on.

Meanwhile I've reached pretty far into the Jarilo-VI Trailblaze Continuance mission myself and with the livestream 2.1 content reveal in mind, good thing Bronya prevented Topaz from transforming into another boss like Aventurine will in Penacony with her talks, especially since Acheron or another Emanator isn't around with the team yet to help against Topaz.

Doing a SU Propagation run with DHIL, Bronya, and Sparkle and it feels absolutely obscene with the amount of damage being thrown around from Dan Heng being buffed to high heaven on everything lol

I for one finally managed to defeat the Skaracabaz of Ruan Mei’s quest.

Dear lord, even with a better armed team is it still one big pain to fight it. Dr. Ratio remains the MVP of the fight though Destruction!Trailblazer is not far behind.

I won’t lie, I’m somewhat disappointed we couldn’t do anything to call out Ruan Mei. Nearly unleashing an Emanator of Propagation should be a red line for the Trailblazer.

She didn't actually do that, the Clone was born unstable and was inevitably going to disintegrate under the weight of its own existence. It's still horribly irresponsible but it's not quite that bad.

Ruan Mei is a mad scientist that has managed to avoid showing the tell tale signs such as "I'll show everyone who doubted me", "Everyone only saw the danger but I can see the potential" and so on. She hasn't screwed up to bad but she is sending up major red flags.

Ruan Mei is all about wanting to observe and understand things, so she can elevate herself to observe and understand more things.

Were other mad scientists say "you can't make an omelette without breaking a few eggs",

RM asks: "How many eggs must I break? can they be of any species?

If I made sentient eggs and broke them would the resulting omelette be sentient too and if yes, would it be a new entity or an amalgamation of the eggs minds.

If I raised myself to aeonhood and broke the metaphysical concept of "egg", would this result in the existing concept of "omelette" to be overridden or squared and would that make me the aeon of eggs, egg breaking, omelette, or breakfast?"

This is exactly why I like Ruan Mei, she's such an amoral weirdo who cares little to nothing about heroism. It's a refreshing continuation of HSR's willingness to have questionable or shady characters.

One wonders how bat shit insane Hertha Prime must be if she gets to be an Emnator of Erudition but RM doesn't.

Wow, the English VA's of Robin, Firefly, Caelus and Stelle did their cover of "If I Can Stop One Heart from Breaking" and it's actually pretty good.

It is definitely something I found very different, coming to this game from Genshin because I knew a free 5* was coming up, with Ruan Mei's quest as the active event. The first impression that I was given of the very first character I was being sold was that she's an abusive mom to adorable, innocent cats.

Genshin can't even commit to Arlecchino abusing catgirls, let alone cake kitties.

Although now that I think of it, Mei's treatment of her creations is actually a pretty direct sci-fi translation of how Ei treated Scaramouche, just without the layer of obfuscation and blame-shifting that Genshin gives (arguably) its most popular character.
