Entering Route 1

Vin's Pokedex chimed in about the two Pokemon that he saw as he arrived on Route 1—

Lillipup: the Puppy Pokemon. Lillipup is incredibly courageous and intelligent. It is an excellent Pokemon for new trainers. It uses the fur on its face to gauge its surroundings.

Pineco: the Bagworm Pokemon. It sits motionless in trees while it waits for its favorite prey of Bug-type Pokemon. If disturbed while it is eating, it is liable to drop down and explode.

"Those poor dears!" Jen exclaimed, her eyes widened. "They don't know what they're in for!"

Betata City Pokemon Center

Finally, Phillip, Adela, Ariel and Joe made it to the Pokemon Center. Nurse Joy smiled as they entered.

"Welcome to the Pokemon Center. How can I help you?" she asked. Joe and Ariel moved to hand their Poke Balls to her.

"We just got off Route 1, ma'am," Ariel explained. "Our Pokemon have been in some battles and we've caught some new Pokemon as well. Can you take a look at them?"

Betata City Gym

Hawke furrowed his brow, still looking as Hawlucha was disheartened by Maia's cute stare, and as Torry pumped up himself and his ally.

"Karate Chop on the Rockruff!" Hawke exclaimed, but Hawlucha was so addled by sand and stares and whips of tails that it didn't seem too eager to fight.

"Haw! Cha!" Hawlucha cawed, crossing its arms. Hawke raised an eyebrow.

"You're wanting to concede?" Hawke asked, sounding concerned. Hawlucha nodded. Hawke sighed a little. "You're right. I'm going too hard. And you've more than proven yourselves in this battle, all of you. The result is inevitable."

"WHAT?!!" Chelsea screeched, whipping around and looking livid at the gym leader.

"I concede. The challengers are the winners. You've fought well, proven your teamwork, and have come up with excellent strategies for victory. More than enough for you three to have earned this Aero Badge, in my opinion." The referee nodded, then raised his flag.

"The Gym Leader has conceded the battle. Therefore, the victory goes to the challengers! Nick from Kanto, Adrian from Hoenn, and Chelsea from Sinnoh!" the referee shouted. The crowd started to clap and cheer.

"How can you just give up?!! You could have won!!" Chelsea screamed.

"At the rate the battle was going, all it would have done is injured our Pokemon and exhausted them. You have all proven well enough that your teamwork is impeccable. And here in Tuloh, that is what we value— cooperation, teamwork, and strategy," said Hawke. "Step forward and you will receive your badges."

Adela - Betata City Pokémon Centre - No Active Pokémon

And there it was! The telltale red and white glow of the Pokémon Centre sign guided Adela and company inside. She took a second to neaten up her ponytail — the place was bound to be full of other trainers, after all, and it wouldn't hurt to look presentable.

When greeted by the ever-polite Nurse Joy, Adela retrieved Patches’, Spike's and Gaffer's Poké Balls, placing them alongside those of the rest of the party.

"Some might be easier to treat than others," she added when Ariel explained the situation. The humble Potion could only heal so much damage, but it was a start.

As soon as there was a gap in the exchange, she brought her wrist forward to see who sent her that message earlier. Her Pokétch didn't have the perfect amount of screen real estate for instant messaging, but she was in no place to complain. The way she saw it, having access to her messages on her wrist was more convenient — she tended to stash her phone away in bags even before arriving in Tuloh, so the Messages application (which needed her phone to work regardless) was a sensible crutch for her habit.

At the top of the screen, in a list separated by small bars, the most recent message came from one Carys Moss. Her big sister. Probably checking up on her, Adela thought. A quick tap and the message was revealed.

Hi Del! it read. How are things? Seen any cute Pokémon in Tuloh? x

No matter how many times Adela had told Carys to stop using "x"s in her messages because it made her sound 40 rather than 20, this proved to be a habit she'd never shake. So, Adela just shook her head with a smile and tapped the Reply box. The keyboard appeared and she carefully composed a response, only having to backspace to correct herself a few times.

All good. Got my starter from the Prof and caught some Pokémon too

Nick the photographer - Betata City gym, with Adrian and Chelsea.

Also starring Torry the Rockruff!

Nick and Torry both tensed and readied, preparing to take this battle to the final stages, but then... The Hawlucha seemed to give up? And Hawke conceded? Nick let out a breath he didn't realize he was holding, and stood up straight, starting to smile. Before he could say anything though, Chelsea screeched, looking pretty mad.

Nick stared a bit dumbfounded as Chelsea proceeded to try to argue with Hawke. After briefly feeling at a loss for words, the photographer thought of something, and couldn't help but want to make a joking remark at her expense. "Well if you wanted to lose so bad, you could refuse to take the badge," Nick sarcastically suggested with a shrug, as he started to step forward to get his badge.

Meanwhile, with the battle over, Torry casually trotted closer to the Hawlucha, then gave a happy bark and playfully lowered his front legs, wagging his tail. There were no hard feelings on the battle for the canine Pokemon.

Betata City Gym - Victory!

Adrian blinks, seemingly not believing his situation for a moment. He had poured over possible battle flows and thought about his Uncle’s lessons over and over in his mind…but they had all evaporated when Hawke conceded.

“We…we won?”

Maia was similarly surprised! In her time in the wild with her mate and her brother, she thought battles were simply contests of strength, where the weak were beaten down, stolen from, and devoured in the worst cases.

But here, she had barely been scratched, save for a few errant wind blown patches of fur, or minor scrapes for the Swablu’s beak.

If anything, she was a supporting role.

“Ee…vee?”

And she found that to be…kinda perfect.

“Veeeeee!”

With a cry of joy, Maia takes to her heels and begins to run little circles all the way back to her trainer, then around Adrian, who blinks in the post battle clarity he was experiencing, long enough to open Sirius’ rattling ball.

The two Eevee bump heads, making all manner of squeaks as one mate tends to the scrapes of the other with licks, as they had done so often before.

Adrian likewise steps forward, extending his hand for a handshake.

“I uh…certainly didn’t expect that. But a win’s a win, no matter the cause! Thank you for the battle, Hawke.”

He looks back at Chelsea briefly.

“I mean, Nick has a point. If you’re that unsatisfied, you can always try again some other time.”

He considers bringing up the fact that her Zigzagoon fainted and, by her logic, means she lost…but this wasn’t the time for snide remarks.

Betata City Pokemon Center

Phillip shuffles over to the Pokemon Center's counter and gingerly places Pudding's and Euca's Pokeballs on the countertop, near where Ariel, Joe, and Adela had placed theirs.

"What they said," Phillip says between laboured breaths, motioning to Ariel and Adela. "Our teams. Need rest."

Despite his best attempts to smile, Phillip's unsteady posture and unfocused eyes show signs that he also needs rest.

Hyde Sagasu - Betata City Gym

Zullie the Misdreavus

After some inelegant flailing, Hyde managed to right himself. The crowd had started cheering and applauding, and Hyde saw that the battle was clearly over, though the Hawlucha wasn't knocked out or anything. Still, his friends had won and that meant- "Aw man, I missed the big finale," he groaned. In his head, Hyde imagined something quite a bit flashier than what actually transpired.

"D-dree~," Zullie trilled apologetically. Not wanting her to feel even the tiniest bit sad, Hyde surprised the Misdreavus by ruffling her hair and smiling.

"That'll teach me to lean way over like a doofus when I can barely handle a brisk walk without falling over," he said with an easy grin. With that settled, the odd pair joined the rest of the crowd in congratulating the challengers' victory.

Betata City Gym - Lobby

Fortunately for all involved, the Nickit's rash actions were born from impatience rather than anything more sinister, though the bird Pokemon intercepting him and cawing at him had him growling in response, trying to make himself look tougher to seem like a Pokemon to take seriously.

"Trouble, that's enough!"

That call, though, had the Nickit pause and look over at his Trainer, who had managed to catch up to him and look down at him in a disapproving manner.

"I was going to try and think of something nicer to call you, but if you're going to cause trouble, I'm going to call you Trouble. If you want a better name, you'll have to earn it." Joachim told his newest companion, and though the growling was now directed at him, Joachim didn't back down. Soon enough, the Nickit relented and sauntered away from the bird Pokemon as if it was his idea and he was sparing it from a fight it would have lost.

"I think we missed the end of the gym battle thanks to that." Joachim said once the situation was under control, looking back towards his friend and the gym aide. "Sorry for causing a scene, I'll try to keep a better handle on him."

Harriet Martins - Route 1

To Harriet, nature walks were a new experience. Sure there were plenty of parks in Wyndon, but they didn't compare to the wilderness she and the others made their way through now, the air fresh and clean, the cries of birds and bugs all around. Vern's ears perked up, twitching, as she scampered through the tall grass by her trainer's side.

The sound of yips drew the attention of both Harriet and Vern. Three puppies barked and hopped around, trying to reach a Pokemon Harriet wouldn't have noticed otherwise. A creature resembling a large pine cone, encased in what looked like tree bark, red eyes peering out from the layers of its shell. "Huh... Some Pokemon really are masters of disguise," she commented, slowly approaching.

When Vin wondered aloud if they should intervene, Harriet nodded. "Yeah, let's..." Her expression soured as the mechanical voice from Vin's Pokedex piped up. "Ok that's not good. We can't let any explosions happen on our watch." The Pineco wasn't eating, but if it truly was stressed, those Lillipups could be in real danger. Leaning closer to Vin, Harriet lowered her voice to a whisper. "This calls for some good ol' misdirection."

She glanced over her shoulder. "Hey Vern, those puppies could use a playmate!" Right away, it became clear that the usually-friendly Sprigatito was no more willing to play than the Pineco was. In hindsight, the fact that Harriet's attention towards the other Pokemon hadn't caused a jealous reaction from the cat should have tipped her off. Vern kept her distance and glared at the Lillipups, back arched, all her fluffy fur standing on end as if she'd been hit with an Electric type move. She let out a low growl.

"Vern, it's ok, they're just a little excitable..." Harriet's reassurance didn't get through. With a hiss, Vern darted towards Harriet and clambered up her back, digging her claws into her shoulder. "Owww!"

Well, at least this would distract the Lillipups away from the detonation hazard.

Vin looked increasingly nervous, feeling unsure of what to do in this situation. He didn’t want either the Pineco or the Lillipups to get hurt. ”Crap, what should we do…?” Riyu, as if perfectly understanding what Vin was thinking, let out a small roar and jumped off of his shoulders.

”Jang-ooo!” Riyu looked like he was trying to get the group of Lillipup to follow him, running off in another direction. Vin went from nervous to worried very quickly. ”H-HEY, WAIT UP!” Vin ran after the small Jangmo-o, try to make sure he wouldn’t put himself in any more danger.

Route 1 — Lillipup playtime

The three Lillipup turned their attention towards the trainers that now approached them. Vern made a growling, hissing sound that distracted the playful puppy Pokemon for a moment, before Riyu bounded up and called out.

The three Lillipup yipped and excitedly barked, all turning their attention to Riyu now. They bounded excitedly after the small Dragon-type.

Meanwhile, the Pineco in the tree stopped swaying and closed its eyes, lowering onto a thin line of string for a moment to eye the approaching trainers warily.

Chelsea stood there, seething. She turned around, staring at the door. Then she held up her Poke Ball containing Zigzagoon, gripping it tightly. Saying nothing, she turned on her heel and stormed out towards the hallway, without collecting her badge.

Jonas and Skye just looked confused as Hawke pinched the bridge of his nose, grunting. He looked back towards Adrian and Nick.

"That was an excellent battle, don't let her bring it down," said Hawke, shaking Adrian's hand.

Hawlucha looked down towards the excited Torry, and smiled a little bit, crouching to get more to eye level with the Rockruff.

The gym aide raised her eyebrow as Nakoa came running up.

"It's fine," the aide told him. "Just try to keep your Nickit under control. I'm guessing it was recently caught?" she asked. Nakoa stood aside, awkwardly. It was at this moment that Chelsea stormed into the lobby, passing by the front desk.

"Uh, h-hey, aren't you going to collect your badge and your prizes?" the receptionist called after her. "Chelsea??" Chelsea ignored the receptionist and continued storming towards the door.

Harriet Martins - Route 1

It was all happening faster than Harriet could process. Riyu ran into the wilderness, a panicked Vin following close behind, as well as the three Lillipups. "Riyu! Vin! W-Wait!"

As soon as the dogs left the scene, Vern withdrew her claws and hopped from Harriet's shoulder. "Mrow?" Tentatively, she approached the Pineco, which lowered itself on a silky string. "Vern, be careful there..." Harriet warned, but the Pineco's motion had reinvigorated Vern's playful side. She started jumping around, trying to bat at the wild Pokemon, just as the Lillipups had done.

"Vern, no!" Harriet rushed over and scooped up the cat. "Sorry about that!" She shuffled back a few steps from the Pineco, keeping her voice soft so it wouldn't perceive her as a threat. "She won't hurt you! It's just her way of being friendly."

"Mrowwwrrr..." Vern wriggled in Harriet's arms. As her fur rubbed against her trainer's clothes, a sweet scent filled the air. Harriet's muscles relaxed, the fragrance easing some of her worry. She could only hope it would have the same effect on the Pineco, and literally defuse the situation.

Vin and Riyu - Route 1(?)

Vin ran as fast as he could to follow Riyu, eventually managing to pick the small dragon up. He let out an exhausted gasp. ”Finally caught up to ya, buddy.” Riyu let out a small roar of excitement. ”Look, I get that you wanted to help, but it’s dangerous to go and run off by yourself. You could’ve gotten hurt, or someone else could’ve tried to steal you!” Riyu tilted his head, and then climbed back on top of Vin’s hat. ”Rowrlrr!” Vin laughed a little bit. ”I can’t stay mad at you, can I?” Vin didn’t have time to dote on Riyu though, as he noticed the group of Lillipup approaching fast. They began to circle around the duo, wanting to play with Riyu and letting out multiple excited yips. ”Uhh, guys?! Need a little help over here!

Nick the photographer - Betata City gym, with Adrian and- oh, never mind, no Chelsea anymore.

Also starring Torry the Rockruff!

Nick glanced back, his brow raising in surprise as Chelsea went ahead and actually left. He glanced at Adrian with that dumbfounded, 'did that just happen?' expression for a moment, then turned his attention towards the gym leader. "I didn't think she really would," Nick commented, shaking his head slightly, then letting out a little sigh. "Oh well, she's just ruining it for herself," the photographer muttered, then smiled and tried to let himself feel proud of himself. His newfound journey as a trainer was going better than he expected, knowing relatively little on battling compared to his peers. That he was technically undefeated as of that point actually felt kind of like a miracle.

Since it seemed to be the procedure, (either that or Hawke didn't seem to mind Adrian going outside of the norm,) Nick offered his own hand for a handshake.

Meanwhile, Torry started to scamper around the Hawlucha, excitedly letting out a couple more playful barks.

Adrian responds to Nick’s puzzled look with a grimace of his own. After all, he didn’t expect that to happen at all.

After shaking Hawke’s hand, he looks after the leaving purple haired girl, pondering.

He wanted to say ‘serves her right’ or some other similar venomous remark…but didn’t feel like that’s be right.

Instead…

A far younger Adrian sits across from his uncle, contemplating the cards in his hand.

“Now I use…this one’s effect!” He says, pointing at a card. Using it would allow him to finally clear his uncle’s field and win! He watches his uncle pick up the cards…all of them.

“Alright kiddo, ya got me. I lose.”

“What? No fair! Let me attack!”

His uncle chuckles, shaking his head, “I could, yeah, but it’s a foregone conclusion at this point. You used up my negates, had just enough to wipe me out. No reason to keep going after all that.”

“But that isn’t fun! I-oof!” Adrian is cut off by a playful flick to his forehead. “Owwwwwwww…”

“Life lesson time kiddo. Sometimes, life has a funny way of leaving a bad taste in your mouth. Battle plans get wasted, operations go awry…” Uncle M purses his lips in thought, “Maybe your opponent makes a strange play…and end up self destructing, giving you a win by default.”

“Like…using Belly Drum after you poison them?”

“Bingo! You remember that one,” he laughs, “at times like that, what you gotta do is take stock, breathe, and let that bad taste dissipate. If you let pride overtake you or…” he gestures to the now empty playmat, “let easy wins sour your experience, then you lose joy in life. Remember that and whatever journey you go on will never become boring or-“

“Weren’t you holding a Battle Fader?”

His eye twitches, “Or ruined by mothers that can’t read the room, isn’t that right Tori-GYAH!” Adrian’s mother shuts his Uncle up with a thrown Cacnea shaped cactus right to his forehead.

“Did you say something, Mr. Jason Maxwell? I could have sworn I heard someone saying something extremely rude in my living room.”

“No ma’am…”

Instead…Adrian turns back towards Hawke, clearing his throat.

“Um …Hawke, sir? If it’s alright…do you mind if I held on to Chelsea’s badge? So I can give it to her if we run into each other again.”

He sighs, lightly dragging his foot on the floor, “I may not care for her and that attitude… but she did win just as much as Nick and I.”

Luna, blissfully unaware, gives a big ol’ yawn as she wakes up from her nap in the divot between Adrian’s bag and his back.

“Shaaaaaaaa…mrble.”

The three Lillipup now stood at Vin's feet, yipping and hopping up and down like a couple of excited, well, puppies. The Normal-type Pokemon didn't seem to have any ill intentions, just a desire to play. Unfortunately, they seemed one-track minded on such a desire, which manifested as them surrounding poor Vin.

Jen walked up towards the Lillipup and knelt down to see them at a more reasonable eye level.

"There there, little ones. You three want to play, right?" Jen asked. The three Lillipup turned towards her and began yipping excitedly. Danny just sat back and watched, turning his attention to the Pineco that Harriet was attempting to talk to.

Said Pineco was continuing to watch Harriet warily. It twitched, swinging slightly on its silk strand, then stared at Vern with hesitant unease.

Hawke looked towards one of the aides, who had walked up with a case full of badges. Hawke took two and handed the two trainers their respective badges.

"All right, you two, pull out your Pokedexes," he told them, taking out a device of his own and pushing a few buttons. Data began to transfer from his device to their Pokedexes.

"In addition to the Aero Badge, you've won a new Technical Machine. Here in Tuloh, those are programs you can download to your Pokedex and interface with a kiosk in any Pokemon Center to teach your Pokemon a new move. The move taught by this TM is Aerial Ace. A quick, cutting Flying-type move that will not easily miss. Use it well," he explained. He raised an eyebrow when Adrian asked to deliver Chelsea's badge.

"I don't see why not," Hawke told her. "She earned it. Even if she doesn't think she did," he told the young trainer. "Honestly, that's the strangest reaction I've seen from a trainer who won a gym battle." He handed the third badge to Adrian, then cleared his throat. "Anyway. From here you have two options. You can either go north on Route 3 towards Dalett Cave to pass through there, head down route 4 and challenge the gym in Dalett City, or you can go east down Route 2 towards Gamaria Town and challenge the gym there," he said. The aide whispered something in Hawke's ear, and Hawke furrowed his brow, listening. "Oh, all right. My aide tells me that there's currently a cave-in in Dalett Cave right now, so unless you want to help the workers, it seems like your next stop is going to be Gamaria Town."

Meanwhile, Hawlucha smiled and let out a friendly caw, flapping one wing and swishing them excitedly. Hawke turned towards Hawlucha and smiled a bit. Then he pulled out his Poke Ball.

"All right, Hawlucha, return," Hawke told his Pokemon, bringing it back to his Poke Ball and handing the Poke Ball back to the aide. Jonas and Skye handed their Poke Balls over as well.

Adela - Betata City Pokémon Centre - No Active Pokémon

Adela and Carys's conversation continued.

Aww nice! I’m sure you’ll do a great job training them! Make sure to send pics when you can! What about any new human friends? x

Adela made a mental note to fulfil Carys’s request as she typed her reply.

I grouped up with three other trainers

Phillip, Ariel and Joe

They’re good company

Adela looked up from her Pokétch, turning to face the rest of her group but without making eye contact with either of them. She wasn’t usually one to initiate a conversation, but the atmosphere had turned a little too still, and getting to know her companions would pass some time while their Pokémon were recovering.

"Got any family back home?" she asked, hoping it wasn’t too sensitive a question.

...Guess there's a lot more to all of this than I thought, but...

The trainer was seemingly lost for words and deep in thought...with Aqua, clearly not amused by the trainer's attitude, although whether it was for Jacques spacing out and planning strategy or for contemplating that surrender was a possible option if things went poorly, giving the trainer another whack with her tail.

"O-Ow...oui, oui, better get down there and congratulate them since t-they did win, after all. And I-I'm sure we're up soon, after all. Maybe. P-Probably."

While that...somewhat appeased the aquatic mouse, it decided to simply bounce off to the lobby, with Jacques following behind and blinking a bit in surprise at the new arrivals giving a small wave and nod to the new arrivals and familiar faces.

"U-Um, hello, again."

Nick the photographer - Betata City gym, with Adrian.

Also starring Torry the Rockruff!

Nick took the little wing shaped badge, turning it over in his hand and feeling the material with his thumb. He then looked up when Hawke requested their pokedexes, and Nick nodded and obliged, holding up his Rotomdex and letting it float freely as the data transferred.

When the Rotomdex floated back down to him, Nick took hold of it and looked at the info on the TM. "Aerial Ace, huh... I don't think either of my Pokemon can use it, but alright," the photographer quietly thought out loud, putting the device back away, before listening to Hawke's advice on where to travel.

"Ah, well thanks for the advice. We'll have to talk it over with our other buddies first," Nick replied, then looked over at Adrian with that silent, 'shall we go now?' expression and little motion of the head.

Meanwhile, Torry seemed rather excited about the Hawlucha's response, only to look confused when the other Pokemon was recalled. He pawed the floor where the wrestling Pokemon had just been, then looked over at the Humans with a confused tilt of the head. "It's alright, Torry. We gotta get out of here so the next trainers can come take the challenge," Nick called over after spotting the Rockruff. Torry walked over, glancing at Hawke for a moment, then followed Nick as he started to walk out of the arena.

"Yes, just recently, I'm still working on curbing his...attitude..." Joachim said, trailing off as he saw the rather belligerent Trainer storm by. He'd seen that she wasn't the friendly sort on TV, but she seemed particularly unpleasant in person. Fortunately, she had no eyes for him, meaning he was able to get the staring out of his system and get back on track, briefly taking notice of a familiar face and waving politely before speaking up.

"I'm here to watch my friends compete. Where do I go?" He asked, trying to act like he hadn't seen that. Notably, even the newly named Trouble seemed to calm down after seeing that display, sauntering back towards his Trainer and acting like he was perfectly behaved and hadn't just made a scene a few minutes ago.

Hyde Sagasu - Betata City Gym

Zullie the Misdreavus

Hyde winced when Chelsea stormed off. He briefly considered leaving for the lobby right away to intercept her, but no. What would he even say? Better to leave that angry Voltorb alone. Instead, he just shook his head and sighed, focusing on his friends' award ceremony. Torry and Hawlucha's cute little moment got a chuckle.

As things in the arena finished, Hyde stood up. "C'mon Zullie, let's go," he said as he started making his way out of the stands. The little ghost bobbed along as she followed her trainer. The two of them eagerly waited in the lobby for Adrian and Nick.

Higher beings, these words are for you alone.

Flint Kajiya - Betata City Gym

During the entire battle Flint worried whether the trainers could actually work together, trying to coordinate in a team of 3 for the first time had been tricky enough when everyone was being decent to eachother. Not to mention the gym team seemed to be making a point of ganging up on Chelsea's Zigzagoon...

Nabe spent most of the time happily eating the rest of the damaged soup pot Flint purchased earlier with only a casual interest in the battle. But Webster was surprisingly attentive from his perch on Flint's shoulder, with everyonr else focusing on the ring it was easier for him to relax, and this was the first time the recently captured Spinarak had seen an organized pokemon battle.

After the abrupt ending Flint briefly considered going to check on Chelsea, but on second thought he couldn't see that ending well. She probably needed the alone time more than anything right now...

Instead he left the stands to meet the winners and the rest of the group in the lobby to see what was next.

Betata City gym lobby

As Nick and Adrian exited the arena and headed towards the lobby, the receptionist up front flagged the two down.

"Come over here to collect your prize money, you two!" the receptionist exclaimed. The aide who had tried to stop Trouble looked over towards the desk and then over to Joachim.

"Which trainers here are your friends?" she asked.

I can still hail the Horde even though the company has shamed us. Strength and Honor even if Blizzard has neither.

Nick the photographer - Betata City gym, with Hyde, Adrian, Jacques, (Jack) and Flint.

Also starring Torry the Rockruff!

Once in the lobby, Nick glanced around, quickly spotting his other traveling companions, and gave them an acknowledging wave before heading for the counter. "We get prize money too?" Nick said, pleasantly surprised. Between the money for getting first in the previous challenge, and this too, he was pretty relieved that his money troubles were no longer so tight.

Then he remembered something, which was more important to him. "Wait, before that, I think someone said we can get our Pokemon healed up here?" Nick asked, getting Torry's empty pokeball and turning around. "Come on Torry, healing time," the photographer called to his Rockruff.

Torry let out a short, positive bark in return. Nick just smiled and recalled the canine Pokemon into the pokeball. Then the photographer turned his attention back to the counter.

Adela - Betata City Pokémon Centre - No Active Pokémon

"Cool," replied Adela. "My parents were a big help for me, too. They got me this Pokétch as a going-away gift." She turned her wrist to face Phillip, walking over to give him a better view of the hot pink-coloured device’s square screen. At that point in time, a transparent speech bubble was resting at the bottom of said screen, the ellipsis in its centre bobbing in place. A little smile appeared on Adela's face. "It works great for the stuff I want to do with it."

As soon as she finished the sentence, with a satisfying tone, the typing bubble was replaced by a message.

Great! Hopefully you’ll get to know them better as you keep travelling together. Also sorry if I’ve been a bit slow to reply, I’m making Poffins for Suzie rn.

(Suzie was Carys’s Chimecho; she’d been at her trainer’s side ever since she was a newly-hatched Chingling.)

"Sorry," said Adela as she pulled her wrist back in to type, "I'm just talking to my big sister. Her name's Carys. She's a Pokémon Coordinator."

You're good, no rush
