The page for Crusading Widower states that it CAN apply to women but is more likely to apply to men, so why is a Distaff Counterpart trope even necessary? Vengeful Widow does say it is usually evil (with the presumption that Crusading Widower are good) but then Crusading Widower's page says they are typically Anti Heroes, Anti Villains or pure villains, so this doesn't seem to be a necessary distinction either. I don't get what the point of having both of these tropes is.

I agree. If you feel comfortable enough doing a wick check, i'd do one for both to see if there's any real difference and take what you have over to the trope repair shop

I've never done a wick check before, I'm not really sure how to do it or what to do in the trope repair shop.

Ok, I understand how to do a wick check but I'm not sure what I should be looking for. How do I prove the tropes are used in the same way?

There are a few ways:

  • Check both tropes. This is more time consuming, but then you can just compare the results of each to see how similar they are in practice.
  • Have a folder specifically for examples that could also qualify as the other trope. A bit more subjective, but allows you to just do it one go.
  • Check for literal overlap by searching for both tropes on each work page you visit, and tallying that amount.
