From what I remember, it's more that the phrase "Crowning Moment of Awesome" was the originator and everything else around it was a snowclone. Heck, we still have the trope Awesome Moment of Crowning if that's any indication. Grandfather Clause probably dictated the original name structure stuck for the original concept, plus Moment of Awesome rolls off the tongue a bit better than "Moment of Funny" or the like.
Moment of Awesome makes sense to me because each example is of a specific moment. Pluralizing the title is creating unnecessary grammatical complication. Then again, it could just as well be Awesome Moment, singular. I don't see any particular reason to sweat the title as long as it's in a noun form. Feels like nitpicking.
And yes, the history comes from Crowning Moment Of X, which was intended to be a system whereby tropers would nominate moments in the relevant category for each work and then vote on which one was the "most awesome/funny/sad/etc.". This is where the term "crowner" for a voting system came from.
I think we can adopt an "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" mentality here.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"I guess it just confused me because on the forums and the like I've only ever seen it be discussed as Awesome Moments, I've only used it as Awesome Moments, and it just makes more sense. Since the implication is that the title got changed back at some point, I'm just wondering why it did.
Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure PurenessI don't believe it was ever Awesome Moments; that's always been the redirect.

I had a dog-themed avatar before it was cool. The renamed tropes blurb seems to think otherwise...

It occurred to me today that the proper name for Awesome/ is Moment of Awesome, not Awesome Moments. However, the "Awesome Moments" redirect actually seems more indicative to me of what the trope is actually about, especially since most of the other moments pages follow the same style.
I know that in the past, Crowning Moment of Awesome was meant to be a single, voted-on moment that was awesome, but people used it for everything awesome. Following that, doesn't the change to allow multiple moments fit Awesome Moments more than Moment of Awesome, which is the exact same thing without the "crowning" part? Even the blurb on Renamed Tropes makes no sense with this in mind:
Like... is it about multiple moments or not? If so, why did we rename it from Awesome Moments?
