Yu-Gi-Oh!: Master Duel

A thread that is for the recently released YGO :Master Duel which has evidenced enough of a difference in the cardpool and meta compared to the paper TCG/OCG to warrant it.

Man, it is funny seeing how a card can be banned, unbanned, limited, and then banned again. Certain cards have been on the ban list for years now, but wow. Anyway, I'm liking the game so far. Not putting any money in right now since I'd like to see how the economy hoes and the prices are ridiculous right now anyway.

And as for the ever present topic of meta and how the game has changed, I can agree that it can all be overwhelming if you are just being introduced and haven't followed the anime or game in years or find it too fast, but also, there was plenty of broken crap and a meta back then. You just have a whole lot more options now. Also, people can't seem to read.

Haven't played YGO in forever, so this game being good at getting you up-to-speed's wonderful. Glad that Zombies have gotten a lot of good support over the years, too- so far I haven't seen many opponents that can work around it.

Wonder if that's symptomatic of the different banlist from the TCG? At least Maxx "C" hasn't been an issue for how maligned it is.

Maxx C Smaxx C who cares about that. The card that needs to be wiped from the format forever never to return is Skill Drain. Unfun piece of garbage. Really hope that this game doesn't follow the TCG banlist for multiple reasons now.

Currently running pure Lyrilusc, and it's great. Who needs Tri-Brigade when most people don't know how to handle Assembled Nightingale OTK. I'm building Invoked Shaddoll. Most done, but I'm not sure I want to add in Dogmatika since a few too many of those cards look expensive.

I built Invoked Shaddoll and used it to beat a Eldlich deck. We got into a pretty intense grind game and I'm actually really proud of winning that duel. Wish there was a way to post replays.

And I haven't had the displeasure of seeing Skill Drain yet but good god why is that at 3.

My guess, Konami thought it wasn't a problem card fro some reason. Prolly because people decided to use backrow hate for once. I'd say Konami had decided to subscribe to the theory of "the only winning move is to force your opponent not to play", but that wouldn't gel with the banning of IO or the lack of change in status for stuff like Azathot.

Agreed on Maxx C, piece of shit badly designed card deserves to forever stay banned

I've been running a Sunvine deck and looking at making a Ursarctic deck. Just interesting decks that look fun to play, nothing serious.

The solo mode loaner deck duels are pure cancer. World Legacy expects you to win with a bunch of weak self-summoning monsters and mid-powered non-effect monsters and NO extra deck versus Knightmare-Mek Knights? I'd sooner win three on one against Zone, Don Thousand and Zarc with Yugi's season 1 deck. And then the game is like "Summon stronger monsters cuz Knightmares have low attack power" Stfu, game.

Ah yeah. I did that duel yesterday.

I think the ides here was to summon Blue Boi and equip him with Solitary Sword of Poison so that ha can beat over his complementary colored peered and the World Lance. Of course I misread that card thinking it instead reset the ATK of the opponent's monster and was thus Useless (considering that the only stat boosts the opponent has are 300 form the field spell, 3000 from lance and a one time 1000 boost)

I did eventually win thanks to Raigeki and the opponent insistent on paying 1000 for World Shield. But it still boiled down to turtling and stalling.

Thankfully the worse is over unless the devs decide to keep the World Chalice deck despite Ib and Lee being dead and Ningirsu leaving to pursue his sudden hobbies of engineering, classical music and necromancy.

On that note I see Equimax as a Good Counterpart to the Knightmares...

• Resembles a mythical beast (Centaur int his case)
• associated with the one color Lee didn't take

The mechanics are obviously different, but it would make some sense.

I just had the most ridiculous brickfest against an Assault Mode player. Drew into nothing but handtraps, random Spells, and all 3 copies of Invocation. I still won in the end (dude's deck was bad), but I could have made it go a lot quicker if I sent Aleister to the GY when I used Shaddoll Fusion.

BTW a funny anecdote. I wanted Masquerena, so I crafted her and then pulled from the free S-force pack...that pull got me a second copy of her.

Rank reset happened yesterday but going back to gold from platinum ironically drained my motivation to climb back up given that I won't get as many gems.

I'd like to return to playing Yu-Gi-Oh!, but I'm a little suspicious of the this being a free download on Nintendo eshop.

It's Free To Play, yes. Though it's got a decently generous crafting system. Was able to make myself a Shaddoll deck without spending a dime.

I'd honestly avoid the Switch version mostly because it runs pretty badly.

Yeah, the Switch version was just awful. Ran slowly, disconnected during duels, and crashed in the deck builder. Thankfully I was able to link it to my Steam version, so nothing was lost.

Can you duel artificial opponents like past Yu-Gi-Oh! games. I'm unlikely to play with other people online.

There's a Solo mode, but it's mostly for one-time duels you grind gems off of and you're expected to use pre-made decks for it. This game is basically for PVP.

Curses. I don't have a PS 5 (or any PS) at least not yet.

It's on PC. I doubt it's particularly taxing for a standard laptop to run.

So what is everybody maining atm? Im running Myutants atm to counter Eldlich (their effs to SS can proc even if SD is up, and under most circumstances they cant attack over Ultimus) as well as mixing it up with Code Talker, Cyber Dragon, and Sunavalon if im feeling REALLY fancy.

One of my favorite duels with my Mytuants was vs Traptrix, lasted almost an hour and both of us got down to the absolute wire before I was able to sneak in a KO.

It'd be really cool if we got the TCG banlist. I never want to see Thunder Dragons again in my life. I did my time during the Eternal Format.

Running Invoked Shaddoll but thinking about changing.

EDIT: Had somebody who clearly filled out their battle pass (they had the Pot of Greed minion) try to Maiden with Eyes of Blue pass on me. Okay.

EDIT 2: Trashing this inconsistent deck because I lost to pure Red-Eyes due to bricking. Any ideas?

I'm playing a Hybrid HERO Deck, while trying to build Tri-Brigade/Lyrusic afterwards

So far I've been playing (mostly) pure Zombie World, though I'm also trying to get enough Eldlich cards to run Eldlich Zombies. Sometimes the hand bricks or my party starter gets negated off the bat, but when the deck's online it's a lot of fun.

After that I'll try to tinker with all the other Zombie archetypes (Vendread, Vampire, etc.) and from there I'll try to build either Sky Strikers or Stardust/Synchrons.

i've just been using a cute lil melffy deck :3c

its been surprisingly successful, every time i lose it feels like i'm the one who made a mistake or i just got exceedingly unlucky with my starting hand.

plus, it's immensely funny when this cute woodland critter deck ends on a board with Accesscode Talker and a Ronin Raccoon token with 5300 ATK

I'm using [HERO]s and Sky Strikers. I want a Phoenix Gearfried before I try my luck with the original Noble Knights in ranked. There are waaaaaayyyyyyyyy too many UR's needed to get stuff to function.
