Because they literally have nothing new to show.

I hate to say it, but the release date being as close to the deadline of the middle of the year as possible, combined with only showing concept art and minor tweaks, can only mean one thing: they seriously underestimated the work to remake the game engine, and now they have hardly anything to show for the release date.

And the sad thing is, the controversy and outrage behind this 6 month gap in playability means they can’t delay anything, so the team is most certainly are going through crunch time right now.

Warner not learning anything. Shocking.

The weirdest part is they do clearly have stuff they could show. They could show more of the graphical updates thanks to the UE5 upgrade. They could do a better dive into how their new rollback solution works. Their TikTok videos show off comic-like shader skins and footage of the Dexter's Lab stage - they could properly announce those. This dumb hockey tie-in is where they hid the reveal of a universal parry mechanic - they could properly announce that. They showed that Scooby-Doo in the Mystery Machine model while it was zamboni-ing around - I'm convinced it's just a cameo but the fan discords think they pseudo-leaked a new character based on some old datamining, and at this point I wouldn't put it past them to do that shit.

This is some real worst-of-both-worlds shit where they seemingly don't have much to show from nearly a year's worth of work but they aren't completely empty-handed, but also they're squandering showing off what bits they have. Seriously someone give Hi-Rez a call and learn how to actually drip-feed info.

I'm willing to bet the weird marketing is WBD's trademark bizarre decision-making at work rather than incompetence on the MVS team's part.

Personally, I think the weird marketing is a side effect of their lateness. They probably made those deals early on, expecting to be back in march. When that turned out to not be the case, Warner Bros forced them to uphold the deal, so that the money spent on those deals wouldn’t be wasted.

So what was supposed to be advertising a freshly released game is now advertising a game that is one or two months away. And boy, does it show…

A new cinematic trailer has been teased on the official MVS Twitter/X.

So we at least know there will actually be one. 😅 Likely (hopefully) with new characters included.

Oh shit! I was just expecting more gameplay, but a new cinematic trailer would explain the hush-hush on new characters.

I have seen a lot of rumors of a playable Barbie over the past year. It would be pretty interesting.

There's a new developer blog highlighting several gameplay changes. Changes include updates for readability (including larger character models and what sounds like an Smash-style dynamic camera), everyone now having a dash attack, a universal parry mechanic, and some additional character kit updates including full-on reworks.

They're also teasing "additional news shortly".

Oh I do hope that's a tease and not just them being quirky.

Apparently player counts have been slowly rising on both PC and consoles. Especially Playstation, which supposedly had an over 300% rise in players. Pretty wild considering the game's been offline for a year, but I'm not too surprised that old players are excited.

Man, I had a dream last night that I had woken up this morning to see that they had announced the Road Runner as a new character for launch day. I was mildly disappointed when I woke up for real and saw that they hadn't confirmed any new characters yet.

That new cinematic trailer they promised can't come soon enough 😅

Imma be a downer folks, i don't think the game will relaunch with too many characters. We are less than a month from launch and we heard NOTHING about new characters, the marketing has been abysmal. And i have no expectations about tomorrow Qn A either, they'll obviously going to dodge any character question.

If you only care about hearing about new characters then you’re not going to get much out of this (though some of the wording implies that the new characters will be available on launch day or very shortly afterward), but they do go into some details about how the overall gameplay has changed.

Characters getting a full set of perks is definitely a good thing, I remember a lot of people complaining about not being able to use them when playing a new character. And I'm guessing this whole armor thing is gonna be this game's version of shields?

I'm a little confused why a Mascot Fighter would expect people not to be majorly interested in the roster

Because that sort of reveal is better suited for a snazzy trailer than a simple Q&A.

3 weeks and 1 day till release

And a whole lotta nothing for character reveals. They posted a clip of gizmo vs superman and people are clowning the floaty and slow gameplay.

You've cooked too much PFG, game's overcooked and we need proof new characters will be available at launch.

Being fair, I remember "slow and floaty" being a complaint leveled toward the game based on gameplay footage before the open beta came out, too (and the Gizmo video was explicitly slowed down anyway if I’m reading correctly). I figure we’ll see how accurate those complaints are once the game comes out.

I will say that people have been taking this image as a sequence of announcements for the game, which sorta checks out since they’ve done that series of videos on TikTok, posts on Instagram, and then the Q&A on Discord. If this channel guide theory holds true then next is YouTube, which would be a great time to reveal some new characters.

If we haven’t gotten a new character announcement by the time they do the thing on Twitter/X, though, then I’ll be genuinely confused.

Saw the tweet with Gizmo and Superman and... why doesn't it give me confidence? Something off about the animation when Superman gets hit.
