A new Disney show is being made called Primos. It's created by Big City Greens director Natasha Kline. The show centers on Tater, an eccentric 10-year-old girl with big dreams and, unbeknownst to her, a certain “it factor” that makes her exceptional. When her 12 cousins (“primos” in Spanish) move in for the summer, they help her discover just what it is. Tater’s aspirations and larger-than-life imagination are seen via entries in her super-secret diary, which turn her deepest thoughts into grandiose animation sequences.

I do wonder if they are going to change the name of this show down the line because of the massive backlash against this show?
I love animation, TV, movies, YOU NAME IT!There is NOTHING offensive about "Primos" unless you think the show is called "Oye Primos" which it isnt.

New theme music also a boxGranted, dub change name still happen: in Blue Nigel is pepillo and Jewel to perla(Pearl), the book of life is very base on mexican mythos and yet it change the name of La Muerto to La catrina.
On the other hand, dub will probably have a issue of the fact learing spanish and spanglish probably form part of the show identity, which cant cross THAT well when you have a latin american dub really.
"My Name is Bolt, Bolt Crank and I dont care if you believe or not"Maybe this show will be like the 21st century equivalent to Song of the South.
Well, it's definitely happening, it just got announced as releasing in June. And as expected, Latam fans are tearing into it again
The show did apparently change Cuquita's name, as they did the name of the city, but honestly, I don't think there's any salvaging at this point. One way or another, it's getting blasted by the Latin America community.

The series "controversy" was WAY overblown and those who are still "tearing into it" are the typical reactionaries who hate anything related to "woke Disney". They can be safely dismissed. As a Mexican, I do not feel insulted in any way by the series, and note that it is not about a Mexican but a Mexican-American family living in the US.
No me importa lo mojado, solo es agua. Alguien-2010Portraying Latinos living in America instead of their actual countries of origin is part of why that kind of 'representation' often rings false. It's still about America. And when the actual countries are depicted they most often are the theme park version.
I just have to play Primos advocate here. This is something that trips people up so its understandable, but this is NOT ring hollow, because this representation of the Latin American diaspora, its NOT about Latin Americans who live in Lat AM. It's about the Latinx population of the USA to make a cartoon where they are represented and there is NOTHING fake or hollow ringing about that. There is absolutely nothing wrong with this.
Discord: Waido X 255#1372 If you cant contact me on TV Tropes do it here. Then while you are at the issues of relatability for people in the diaspora, let's tackle the issues of why that diaspora happens in the first place, but that would be too controversial and "Hey, burrito, abuela with chancla" is the thing everyone is more at ease with, isn't it?
I can't help but feel a bit bad for this show TBH. The previews didn't really interest me, but I feel like it's gotten so much flak it's at least owed one fair viewing; whether it'd be me trying to catch it when it premiers or just waiting for whenever it gets put on Disney Plus.
I wonder what happened to the voice actress (?) who made rather dubious posts.
I... I am NOT getting what you are trying to say, Diaspora happens because Latinx people live outside of Latin America and blend in? What are you asking here?
Discord: Waido X 255#1372 If you cant contact me on TV Tropes do it here.I'm assuming that they want a show that explores the (social, political and economical) reasons why many Latin Americans choose to leave their home country and move to the USA? Which of course would be too heavy topic for an animated comedy for kids.

I mean, it's not like An American Tail did something like that over thirty years ago.
Simplified, no questions about that, but still, that felt like immigration.

As far as I know, Myrna Velasco is still voicing the main character (Tater), I don't think her posts are deserving of a Role-Ending Misdemeanor.
No me importa lo mojado, solo es agua. Alguien-2010... Actually now that I think about it, does the show still not have a main page on this website? Usually we make one by now.
Speaking as someone who is Brazilian, I do get the grip most Latam folks are having with the series: it honestly doesn't look flattering AT ALL to the group it aims to represent.
Like, some of the designs look outright hideous. I definitely wouldn't want folks to think I look like that.
The one next to the girl wearing the scarf is honestly the worst one (I can't even match the names to each character, to be honest).
Compare and contrast other shows that Latam folks tend to sign hymns and praises over, like El Tigre or Mucha Lucha, and they have a more stylized art style that manages to make characters look a lot more visually appealling.
I dunno, I might be overstretching, but at the same time, I kinda get it.
Have we seen any designs for characters that are not Latin American? Maybe this is just a show where everyone looks ugly, similarly to Klasy-Csupo cartoons.
Eh, I think that's only an issue with keeping names of classic characters consistent with english (Rene and Kermit as brought up), but a new work introducing new characters could easily localize the names into new ones just fine, since they aren't pre-established (and the mandates on consistent names is usually only enforced for large franchises, doubt this would need the same mandates).
Would be funny for them to have a hammed up dub localization though
