This was the sequel to Play for Today, running from 1985 to 1998, a series of MadeForTVMovies. It seems to have been almost completely forgotten now, and I only learned of its existence a week ago from some old rips turning up online.

The one's I've watched so far are:

  • The Law Lord (1992), in which a new Lord Chancellor is told by his government to appoint more ideologically-compliant judges. It features Bernard Hill as the Home Secretary and Tom Baker as... I'm not sure what.
  • East of Ipswich (1987), which recreates Sir Michael Palin's experience of the desperately dull British seaside holiday circa 1959.
  • Song of Experience (1986), which follows two children and a teenager going trainspotting in late 1960, with one of them getting caught and molested by a railway policeman. On the way they hear details on the radio of the Lady Chatterley's Lover trial.

Looking through the episode guide, there doesn't appear to be any linking them between all these films, except that quite a few of them include, err, unusual sexual discussions. Of the three that I have already watched I often found that the stories were difficult to follow - at times there didn't seem to be a plot as such - and a lot of the dialogue felt less than natural, but the artistry was generally good and there were at least interesting concepts involved, many of which seem a little ahead of their time.

Has anyone else heard of it?
