I still think what's written is valid in some ways.
(Wait, why did this duplicate?)
Edited by IkeaHan on Jul 15th 2021 at 5:08:06 AM
Character Specific Page cleanupI have no idea why that duplicated.
And I still stand by 40,000 bytes being a good medium to start thinking about it. Not to to make it right away. But if you have tried everything else and the original is still long enough with out it.

Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadI'm bad at math and computers, do you have a sample page that's around that long?
Byte limit is valid. But I don't see how a character taking up a larger portion of the page matters when they're in folders. If the page is under the byte limit, even if one character is 75% of the page, there's no reason to separate them out.

When push comes to shove, you gotta do what you love, even if it's not a good idea.Okay so say The Walking Dead Video Game - Clementine is over 70,000 character or bytes. the origanal page she is from is over 50,000 bytes. That is okay in my opinion, but like Star Wars - Grogu where is only 18,000 bytes, it's a lot harder justify making a page.
Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadWow, that Grogu page is tiny compared to what I've worked on. Lol

Character Specific Page cleanupIs trope inflation a valid concern (expecting a series page to continue growing either by being ongoing or by more and more tropes being introduced to the site.)
Character Specific Page cleanupI don't know if I would say that. Like unless it's a concern with what we have right now. I don't think we should really be worrying this might get that big in the future.
Edited by Bullman on Jul 15th 2021 at 7:28:21 AM
Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadJust as we don't add commented out examples preemptively, we don't split with the expectation that they'll grow. What if interest in the work dies down? You'll be left with a bunch of tiny pages that could have been one big page. (Characters.Sense 8 is an example — it was abruptly cancelled, leaving a bunch of small pages, but I've been too lazy to try and merge the smaller cities back.) Pages should be split when they are already of good size.
When it comes to the idea of looking out for misuse that isn't always easy as not everyone (including myself) knows what every single trope is about.
CM Sandboxes, MB SandboxesThen take it to Is this an example? I don't know what else to say there.

Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadSo let's see if I got this right:
- Character page bypasses technical limit and requires a split up.
- A single character takes up the majority of a page or is disproportionately bigger than other folders.
- Character is cleaned up beforehand, removing any ZCE and outdated/misused tropes.
- Character page is at least 6,000 words/40,000 bytes
- Other options must have been tired first, like splitting pages into further groups.

Character Specific Page cleanupSounds about like what we discussed. Unless I missed anything.
Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadAny objections or additions to this list?
(P sure we've only had like 8 people look at all of this.)
Edited by IkeaHan on Jul 15th 2021 at 5:58:59 AM
Character Specific Page cleanupOh yeah. Every other option must have been tried first. Like trying to make a page for a group.
However what if the character is spread across multiple different pages to the point it gets hard to read or know where to put tropes. Like say Power Rangers Tommy Oliver?
Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadGames like Danganronpa and The King of Fighters have similar issues too, with multiple entries for the same character across multiple titles. (King of Fighters shares the same universe as Fatal Fury and Art of Fighting)
Like for some reason we have multiple entires for Monokuma and Terry Bogard
(Am I completely misinterpreting your question?)
Edited by IkeaHan on Jul 15th 2021 at 6:04:53 AM
Character Specific Page cleanupNo you got it right. Like Tommy's canon version was spread across six different pages. It got a little hard to navigate.
Edited by Bullman on Jul 15th 2021 at 8:07:56 AM
Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadThat actually might be a good case for Character pages too; compiling characters for a single point of reference.
Character Specific Page cleanupObliviously it would in my opinion need to on a lot of pages to justify being needed.

Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadI've got a few picks in mind
Edited by IkeaHan on Jul 15th 2021 at 6:29:57 AM
Character Specific Page cleanupLike two wouldn't be enough, unless they are both together long enough, but four-six is something that I feel you sort of justify.
Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadFew pages late, but since it was mentioned earlier, I decided to check the byte counts of all of Steven Universe's and Undertale's Character Specific Pages:
- Steven Universe: All of the Crystal Gems, the Diamonds, Jasper and Spinel are above the 40000-50000 limit suggested. Greg and Lars both fall a bit short, however, and Sadie's is definitely unnecessary.
- Undertale: Most of the pages seem large enough, but Toriel, Alphys, Asgore, the Anomaly, and Asriel all fall short of the limit.
Checking the byte count for each page might be a good start, then see if any of the other qualifiers are applicable
Like how big are Greg and Lars's pages compared to characters in folders?
