You know, this makes Kana's career nosedive make more sense than "she was just too good." Of course she couldn't keep being a successful actress if her attitude was so bad that she alienated her biggest fan in one meeting.
Have we ever seen modern Kana interact with her fans? I can see this being a hurdle she still needs to overcome to be an idol, someone who's all about having a good relationship with fans.
We do know she had a big attitude problem.
Dopants: He meant what he said and he said what he meant, a Ninety is faithful 100%.Yeah but this is more about a fangirl, before we mostly heard about her and costars.
Obviously, Kana's bad attitude back then and that she retains around Akane rubs Akane the wrong way but it seems like the real reason Akane hates Kana is instead the classic shonen (which is appropriate for this live-action adaptation of Tokyo Blade they are doing) "you're holding back for the sake of others. The more powerful you needs to come out."
On a separate but related note, this love triangle is better the main love triangle in Kaguya-sama. Mainly because everyone involved in this love triangle have had their own moments with each other while in Kaguya-sama Iino was the third wheel in what was about Ishgami and Tsubame until Tsubame finally rejected Ishigami.
It really is Act Age all over again.
Dopants: He meant what he said and he said what he meant, a Ninety is faithful 100%.I know this is manga and you're meant to hype readers up...but anyone else feels weird about how the actors are surprised at each other's power levels *in the middle of the stage*?
And not during the rehearsals where they presumably would act out the same scenes??
Could be a case of people managing to dish out 120% in the actual performance compared to practice.
Also the acting might be enhanced by the stage effects, costumes and make-up.
New chapter. Is seeing Kana like this supposed to make me feel sad, because I keep feeling sorry for her.
Yeah, it's pretty clear that making herself the center of attention in her acting career, growing a big head because of it and more or less losing everything in return gave her some serious trauma.
Dopants: He meant what he said and he said what he meant, a Ninety is faithful 100%.Pretty much. She actively suppresses her ego in her acting.
So sorry, Akane you’re gonna have to work harder to make Kana bring out the big guns. Also don’t feel too bad about Kana having prime real estate in Aqua’s headspace.
I don't know why "wanting to be considerate because you alienated everyone by your selfishness in the past" is treated as a bad thing, really.
In itself it's not, but it does have a clear influence on her performance and can to her being taken advantage of as shown during Sweet Today. While there was an issue about the production staff not really caring about the acting, had Kana went further than she did her performance could have pushed the the others into at least trying to do better which we saw with Melt.
Just caught up with this manga today.
Really enjoying it so far. Especially loving how each arc is fairly different from the previous ones.
I'll agree with someone earlier in the thread that this seems a shoe-in for an eventual anime adaption.
Not sure if I'll follow it week by week, or in larger chunks but it's certainly something I'll keep reading.
"But if that happened, Melia might actually be happy. We can't have that." - Handsome RobSugoi Kana-chan!
We should probably mention chapter 63 is out.
“You’re always driving me crazy.” Talk about smitten.
And now Aqua’s showbiz girlfriend is fangirling over Aqua’s future girlfriend and eventual wife.
^Shipping feels doomed considering what Aqua's obsessions are x'D
Akane in that last panel killed me.
This girl also does not deserve to be killed either especially with all of those very telegraphed death flags.
"That looks so fun!"
Is this a hint that Ruby is going to start acting at some point?
Huh. And of course Kana gets a Stage Mom who is basically to blame for her previous unpleasant personality. Because God forbid characters to genuinely learn from their mistakes and grow up into a better person. Just give them shitty parents and turn every internal conflict into a Freudian drama.
Although if she does that, wouldn't it make her Idol Singer subplot pointless?

...Both those things could be true? That can happen to you and still grow from that?
Assuming she does decide to act, I don’t think there’s anything preventing Ruby from doing both.
Like their mom, and some idols do voice-acting on top of that. The flash-forward at the beginning of chapter 2 shows Ruby about to take her first role, but we don't know when that scene takes place, how long it been since this show.
Well, it can, but I just don't like when stories dump a Freudian Excuse flashback just before a character gets a Heel Realization, Heel–Face Turn or any other positive turning point. It makes their subsequent character development feel half-hearted at best. All things considered, Akane's case is not that bad, but I've seen it enough in other works that it's just tiring.
Did Ai have any acting gigs? Like, an actual feature story role and not just TV commercials? I honestly can't remember.
Oh, so an Endeavor and Galewind sort of situation.
