Oh, ouch. I found the page looking for information and found nothing but an unwicked, unindexed description with no tropes. It's here and I've done some real bare minimum work to preserve it so far.

I guess it's main page is here?

Anyway, digging into a new miniatures game to play and I've been hearing about this one. We had literally zero information about it though, if anyone more familiar is around I desperately need the help working on the page—I'm running off of half an hour of Youtube explaining the basics to me.

You build a warband of a few characters to go into a frozen ruin to look for treasure. You customize a wizard to serve as the main character, can hire an apprentice, and fill out the band with generic adventurer types. You mainly fight other players but I guess there are monsters lurking that attack anyone. It has a campaign mode where you eventually grow more powerful and you'll have to heal or replace members of your warband as they fall in battle.

It's miniature agonistic but with an official line. So I was thinking of maybe ordering a custom wizard from Heroforge if I delved into this. It seems interesting and really only requires the book to get into it, since you can use whatever miniatures you already own.

I've been wanting to try it for a while now, especially after I've seen so many videos on it by Black Magic Craft, when he's been making snowy ruin terrain. I'm a bit hazy on the game's actual lore, but I have become curious because it reminds me so much of Icewind Dale, which is one of my favourite PC games ever. The official miniatures by North Star are also of interest to me, because they are designed like older Warhammer-miniatures.

Yeah, I'm looking into a WFB replacement at the moment, and I could feasibly use any troops I buy for Potential Other Game in this one as well.

Didn't realize Osprey made games.

I started thinking about how the wizards in Frostgrave function a bit like hero units do in Warcraft III, in that they are more important player-avatars who can hire a bunch of supporting troops for their team. I have a miniature-project to convert minis to look like units and monsters from Warcraft, both Wo W and the RTS-games, but I'm also curious about playing with these. If I were to attempt to translate the playing-style of Warcraft III, then I think that Frostgrave could be a good system to use for it. This could be a fun way of recreating moments from the campaigns, as well.

I have seen some Frostgrave stuff on Amazon and thought about looking up some of its lore (I am always more interested in lore than playing as I am not a big gamer). I do know Matt Ward has written a few novels for the setting.

As much as I despise Warcraft, that sounds like fun and Frostgrave would probably be a great system to implement it. Though it'd be nice to have mechanics that weren't strictly squishy wizards with big magics but allow for heroes with different abilities, so we could have plate-clad paladins or dark knights stomping around with rogues and rangers.

Mechanically speaking, Frostgrave would be ideal for playing skirmishes similar to the Warcraft III campaign, which tried to alter the missions from the basic build-a-base-and-kill-all-enemies approach. There are missions of escorting someone to a safe place, exploring a dangerous place for the treasure, as well as setting up a big magical ritual. The setting also offers tons of inspiration for enemy mooks and dangerous monsters to adapt for the tabletop, as well as your own troops.

Double-post: I still haven't gotten the chance to play the game, but I did buy a pair of single sprues off e-bay. I bought a sprue for the Frostgrave gnolls and demons, both of which are really nice and detailed. I see a lot of potential with each sprue for conversions, by combining them with my existing minis from other manufacturers.
