Inspirationally magical; minority characters who share their wisdom with the demographically-majority protagonist (Magical Negro, Inspirationally Disadvantaged, Magical Queer). They can sometimes be literally magical too (eg. a black Fairy Godmother) but that is not a requirement.
Literally magical; minority characters with supernatural abilities associated with their group (Magical Native American, Magical Romani). They can sometimes be inspirationally magical too (eg. the mystical shaman delivers the Green Aesop) but this is not a requirement.
Despite being marginalized the Magical Minority Person is always there to share their wisdom with the privileged lead character, usually in the form of guidance down the "right path" and lessons about tolerance.
Doesn't that mean the "literally magical" examples aren't actually this? We also have Ethnic Magician.
