The year is 2345. It has been nearly 200 years since Earth was struck with a cataclysmic asteroid strike. The planet is stuck in a perpetual winter, humanity only survives by space colony and colonization efforts on the various moons of the Solar System. Despite the calamity, humanity has not learned it's lesson.

Ships travel by fusion torch, transits are calculated and estimated, warships outfit themselves with drones, missiles, coilguns and lasers, freighters move crew and cargo across vast distances.

Ships can be run by skeleton crews thanks to advances in automation, only drones being truly unmanned to maintain some form of human responsibility behind actions.

The most notable hub of activity is OLMYPUS, a Torus station about 3 kilometers in diameter in orbit over mars, it is the home to the United Colony Efforts, whom seek to keep the Solar System in balance, maintaining a steady navy, numerous ships in effort to break up colonial wars.

Humanity has also redefined itself with several members engaging in man amplification via transhumanism. Cybernetics or outright uploading exist and are heavily debated religiously, with a new cult called the Jovian Collective forming based around augmentation and upload. Religion has not left the solar system, many finding comfort in it despite the rough status of life.

Despite all the changes to the status of life, human's physical abilities, and technology, humanity still has not learned it's lesson.

The Premise

This is a little bit The Expanse, a little bit Children of a Dead Earth.

You the players will be serving the UCN (United Colony Navy) as members of a task force, meant to help keep peace out in the solar system and engage in any individuals seeking to only cause trouble in these trying times for humanity.

All the technology is based on theoreticals so there will be no FTL, No Shields, no artificial gravity (beyond thrust and spin). With the most unusual stuff being Fusion Engines and advanced cybernetics and even computers capable of holding human consciousness. You'll be free to make your characters how you wish, with some of the details of the setting such as notable colonies, governments, and companies up to you and how they affect your character.

You will also be provided a ship of sorts to begin your journey across the solar system, it will be up to player vote of what kind you want, keep in mind larger sizes may necessitate shuttles to land on planets as there will be ground side action and exploring of the worlds of the Solar System, including Earth itself, now a blasted wasteland. Logistics won't be too complicated as this is more story driven.

Characters

  • Name:
  • Age: Please keep them somewhere around adulthood
  • Pronouns: What do they go by?
  • Appearance: Pictures are fine
  • Personality: What are they like

  • Skills: What are they good at, implants and cybernetics go here as well
  • Other: Anything else you feel is important not covered here

Ships

The ship itself is determined by vote, and will have a notation if it is capable of planetary landing. Since you are serving the United Colony Navy, these are technically warships.

  • Cutter - A fast assault craft meant for hit and run tactics, lightly armored meant to make use of their lighter armor to zip around and make high G burns not possible by their larger brethren - Planetary: Yes
  • Escort - Typically part of a fleet, these vessels are designed around interception to support larger fleets and neutralize incoming missile and drone attacks. - Planetary: Yes
  • Corvette - The middle ground of a lot of designs, fast and mobile, with decent armor protection, and numerous gunports, as well as 2 torpedo ports at minimum allowing this vessel to fill a variety of roles - Planetary: Yes
  • Cruiser - The largest possible design that can still land on a planet capable of 1G of gravity, patrol boats that can support numerous gunports and missile launchers, even a few drone ports if needed - Planetary: Yes
  • Gunboat - Vessels such as these are designed to support as many turreted guns as possible and are based upon the philosophy that if enough guns fire then somebody will hit something eventually - Planetary: No
  • Drone Carrier - Originally a design used in asteroid mining, these vessels carry massive bays meant to support drones which can be outfitted with various guns meant to swarm enemy vessels - Planetary: No
  • Missile Carrier - A modified Drone Carrier meant to carry as many torpedoes and nuclear missiles as possible. - Planetary: No
  • Dreadnought - The largest design of ship feasible by current technological means, a veritable mobile station by certain measures, they are not commonly seen and are considered more a tool for intimidation. However due to their massive size they can carry railgun turrets as compared to every other ship which needs to mount it along the spine of the vessel. - Planetary: No

Name: Nerida Fonesca, goes by last name

Age: 45

Pronouns: She/her

Appearance: Average height, stocky. Has short black hair. Looks slightly older than her age. Mestizo Latina. One of her eyes is just a pure black orb (because it's cybernetic), and the other one is a normal brown color.

Personality: Tries to be as calm and approachable as possible, but this is out of pragmatism rather than a desire to make friends. Sometimes feels superior to other people because she doesn't let personal emotions get in the way of her work. Prefers to negotiate out of any problems, but if she isn't able to, can be pretty ruthless.

Personal gear: Typical military weaponry for this setting, first aid supplies and painkillers, just in case, duct tape

Skills: Good with stealth, has knowledge of how criminals function, serves as a mediator between crew members. Also a very good shot, in part because she has a cybernetic eye that replaced one in which she had terrible eyesight. It has a system that helps her with targeting, as well as having a wider range than typical human eyesight does. Prefers to do work as someone else's guard or backup, or as a sniper.

Other: Was a criminal as a young adult, but has absolutely no loyalty her old associates or desire to return. Turned in many, many people to the UCF, to the point where the organization she was a part of no longer exists, though there are some of her old friends still out there. Has no contact with any family or other loved ones at the moment.

Ship vote: Escort

(LMK if any of this needs to be changed or if you have any questions :) )
