[up]Cryo/Dendro could be Wither, a reaction that debuffs enemies in some way, either by attack or defence-breaking. The Dendro+Hydro+Cryo version could explode into ice like Superconduct, but breaking Cryo res rather than physical and slowing enemies.

If Geo was still only left with Crystallize then Crystallize would need to be massively buffed somehow.

I think they're terrified of accidentally making another Xiangling.

Because they're saving for when to powercreep her when the Pyro Archon releases, I bet.

A cruel, sick joke is still a joke, and sometimes all you can do is laugh.

Yes, Melt is still viable, but there's not really a unit yet that really capitalizes on Melt (Ganyu, yes, but she's not really meta anymore).

Uh, Wriothesley? I know Neuvillette set the meta bar super high but not everybody has to be Neuvi.

Ironically the biggest thing holding melt back is that Xiangling is the only good source of off-field pyro application. If and when that changes then Cyro gets an indirect buff, like how Dendro indirectly buffed Electro.

The trouble with Burgeon and Burning right now is that they risk killing you a lot faster than your enemies.

No? The friendly fire (heh, puns) isn't ignorable but neither is it that bad. The real problem is that burning is a terrible reaction with terrible base damage and very few ways to improve that besides your character level and EM stat. The problem with Burgeon is you might accidentally cause Burning (unlike Hyperbloom that can only accidentally cause GOOD reactions like Aggrevate, Spread, or Electro-Charged). The only viable Burgeon team is Thoma's because his pyro application rate is so slow that he won't accidentally trigger Burning, along with Thoma's shielding and off-field benefits.

They are coming out with an artifact set to fix burning, but it feels more like an admission of failure than a buff. Your character gets a 50% damage boost if anybody on the field is suffering from burning, an admission that the only way to fix Burning is by ridiculously buffing yourself.

I've had a lot of fun setting things on fire personally but I also use Nahida, Lyney and Zhongli to do that anyway lol

[up][up]Wriothesley needs Nahida in the team to reliably melt (burnmelt) because of the Pyro app problem. And you really want Nahida for essentially every other Dendro team minus some Tighnari teams and Alhaitham quickbloom. When I use my Wriothesley I either go for Freeze or mono-Cryo with Shenhe. Burnmelt seems neat but really limits what you can do on the other side of the Abyss.

If your EM is high enough Burning will kill you before it kills your enemies. Nahida Burgeon teams have to be careful with that (and having enough Pyro app for her Dendro, but that's a different problem). If your EM isn't high enough that you risk Burning to death your EM isn't high enough for Burning to be a threat to enemies.

The struggle with that artifact set too is all Dendro teams want someone to be holding Deepwood Memories. If you're running a singular Dendro I don't see the burning set being worth farming for and equipping over Deepwood. If you're running two Dendros, what are you doing, just play Hyper or Quickbloom.

Only one person needs deepwood. You can stick it on your healer or shielder for no real penalty.

On the Geo/Anemo reaction, that would require first the aforementioned Geo rework because all Anemo reactions so far require an element that sticks around to swirl it, which Geo doesn’t do yet.

It would actually be easier to implement a Dendro/Anemo reaction (Pollinization?) at this point.

Instead of focusing on relatives that divide us, maybe we should try to find the absolutes that tie us.

Geo/Anemo rection would be pocket sand. And it's not going to happen because of how OP it would be. As I hopefully don't have to explain.

[up] IMHO a hypothetical Anemo/Geo "Dust/Sand" reaction can be something akin to an accuracy debuff (i.e., hits can still connect, but they have a low chance to deal severely reduced and/or zero damage).

Am I the only one that seems to have no idea what I'm doing with this potion event? Not that it seems to matter as I keep making money anyway but the rules feel really finicky. Makes Lisa feel unintentionally patronizing. "Look at my cuties making potions and doing so well!" Lady, I am throwing random weeds in a pot!

There also seems to be no way to review the potion requests from characters if you miss their dialogue the first time? Or if you take a break and quit the game to come back later.

The hand potion over option will give you a menu where it explains the traits required to fulfill the request.

[up] I never tried that as, based on the name, I assumed they expected you to have the potion already. I just used a guide for that bit.

Edit: also finally did the wildlife/enemy survey and that got a chuckle out of me. "How do you feel about the combat experience against fantail pigeons?" Did Timmie put them up to this?

Did... did Navia receive her Vision during a tabletop RPG session?

<reads her Vision entry>

...So she did.

So we can add a "Roll 20" to things that "make you worthy in the eyes of the divine". Together with "singing for a sick child for one night" and "being saved by a fey while hovering in a shield".

Notably absent from that list *gestures towards Jeht* whatever she did or didn't.

[up] IIRC, Ningguang's Vision wasn't even hers to begin with, having been found amongst her wares that spontaneously activated and latched onto her while she was brainstorming how to sell it for top Mora.

Moreover, while her Vision entry openly declares that there is some ambiguity as to which criteria allows mortals to gain Visions, Neuvillette's implies that strong desires and/or willpower are two such criteria, and even then they're not necessarily the only ones, or at least the strongest. Even Navia's entry has her wondering what she did to earn hers (either through wishing for more birthdays with her loved ones or her determination to win a tabletop RPG game that was otherwise going south; the former is implicitly a monkey's-paw moment in hindsight considering the tragedies wrought upon her later in life, and the latter an indication of the courage she will have to muster to go out the other side all the stronger).

Also, considering the number of NPCs holding visions (such as Jiangxue, Inazumans pre-Vision Hunt Decree, Kazuha's late friend, and Rana), it's implied anyone can be a Vision holder, but only a select few (i.e., the playable characters) can be deemed worthy enough to ascend to godhood in the future (the titular "Genshin" per the Japanese localization).

You know, it's occurred to me what the biggest thing that can boost popularity in an NPC is: not having an NPC model. The two who were recently highlighted were Jeht and Enjou, who have enemy models that you don't also associate with any other specific characters. Other than them, you still see more love for characters who only appear in 2D flashbacks like Kazuha's friend or Guizhong or the dead Yakshas than present NPC characters like Rana or Dunyarzad. The generic NPC look this game gives just kills potential investment...just look at all the Teppeifaces...

Stage7-4 Since: Dec, 2014
#7917: Mar 26th 2024 at 9:20:21 PM

I dunno, as Liben and Rana are pretty popular and both are just stylized NPC models. And Madam Ping was popular BEFORE we saw her young form.

zero5889 Since: Jun, 2011
#7918: Mar 27th 2024 at 2:35:37 AM

[up][up] The thing, though, is that Kazuha's friend, the four other Foremost Yakshas, and Guizhong are long dead... unless somehow the apparent title of the Natlan Archon Quest, "Incandescent Ode of Resurrection," implies at least one of them (or some other deceased character) will be brought back to life and thus given a 3D model (though to be fair, the very-much-alive Cloud Retainer's human form was also given a 2D preview during last year's Lantern Rite before she was Promoted to Playable as Xianyun).

[up] Given the past track record of quest titles being related to the plot only in metaphor or in the abstract (while absolutely somthered in flowery prose) I'd say your theory is high on copium.

zero5889 Since: Jun, 2011
#7920: Mar 27th 2024 at 7:46:50 AM

[up] I dunno. So far, the Archon Quests' titles had been consistently tied to their stories to date:

  • Mondstadt: "The Outlander That Caught the Wind" (The Traveler coming to Teyvat and getting caught up in its affairs, as well as "catching" Dvalin and freeing him from the Abyss Order's manipulation)
  • Liyue: "Farewell, Archaic Lord" (The apparent death of Rex Lapis and its fallout)
  • Inazuma: "Omnipresence Over Mortals" (The oppressive reign of the Raiden Shogun and the resulting rebellion)
  • Sumeru: "Truth Amongst the Pages of Purana" (The Traveler uncovering the truth about Kusanali, her predecessor Rukkhadevata, and the crises confronting Sumeru)
  • Fontaine: "Masquerade of the Guilty" (A major plot revelation that all the "humans" of Fontaine are Oceanids masquerading as such, and are considered "guilty" in the eyes of the Heavenly Principles simply for existing)
Hence, I don't think it'd be much of a stretch to speculate that the title of the Natlan Archon Quest may hint at the cycle of death and rebirth, while that for Snezhnaya, "Everwinter Without Mercy," may hint at that place being such a Crapsack World and/or the complicated relationship between the Tsaritsa and her people.

[up]Sumeru's quest name also alludes to Irminsul and the "truth" of Kusanali's final words. I think it's safe to think that Resurrection is going to be a part of the Natlan story, though whether it'll be literal or symbolic is impossible to say yet.

For the record, the copium part was that Natlan is going to resurrect a previously dead NPC as a playable character. Especially all the suggestions that are not native to Natlan. Sorry Signora fans, she's still dead.

But I'd still place my betting money on "they mean Natlan will resurrect as a civilization" or something given it's obscurity in the game right now.

[up] IMHO it isn't so much copium as much as an educated guess to speculate that resurrection is going to be a theme of Natlan, physical or metaphorical.

Besides, there's this eyebrow-raising detail during the customary lore dump about the next region at the denouement of the Fontaine Archon Quest, namely Neuvillette making no mention of the Pyro Archon and/or Sovereign.

Maybe if the Traveler does claim the Pyro Gnosis then they can resurrect the position of Pyro Archon by acting as one.

Given that the end of the Fontaine quest went out of its way to underline how the gnoses are Bad News (and also literally parts of a corpse), I very much doubt the Traveller's going to get one
