The 5T Incident - What went wrong, and how can we stop it?

If Lu's even still reading this I can't really say anything that hasn't already been said so I guess say they apply to me too.

@ lu127 Fair enough. For the record, I'm not trying to blame the mods for what happened. I'm just saying that the draft should've been nuked early on, considering the OP's behavior. I do wonder if maybe we should require people to post on the Trope Idea Sounding Board before they compose a draft to weed out people like the OP.

My point is that rules were broken and people should have known about those rules. New people should also know these rules, but if not and they act out breaking them then regulars should and should be able to say something to stop it. Or if not saying something directly then taking it to a mod or ATT.

(BTW, I'm not trying to further shame anybody. Just trying to point to some rules that were clearly broken that people should have known.)

That's why I support attributing hats and bombs, as well as automatically prompting to give reasons why you think this draft deserves them. People will throw bombs when the sponsor says it's ready to be launched but there are ZCE's that need to be fixed.

What if we put on the agreed upon answers to the title question on the first post?

Part of the issue is that Mario Pissing didn't bring the wrath of the mods down on all of us. It happened and then we moved on and everything seemed chill. So, it made sense at the time that this would end the same way. It simply didn't occur until later that maybe it wouldn't.

Is it bad that I have problems with understanding how something is bad and people hate it, if it isn't obvious (like stealing and murder)? I found the whole thing to be harmless and funny at first, even joining in, and then it took me a while to think why people were acting like they broke their phones.

Is this incident the reason why we're gonna be more strict when dealing with troll TL Ps in the future? (corrected)

Having seen the ATT thread, I don't think this should've been a draft to begin with. OP was clearly upset with Badass Gay being cut and acted rashly. That's why I think people who propose TLP draft's should have to visit the Trope Idea Sounding Board or do something so we don't get these impulsive drafts.

tbh I thought that too. I even had an idea for an April Fools' Day tradition called "Feed It a Bomb" where we write Stylistic Suck drafts to throw bombs at. But there's a Hard Truth Aesop for this: Don't have too much fun. Also, I kinda knew it was from a Wiki Troll, so that's Don't Feed the Trolls in action.

If I'm honest, the thought that it might be unnecessary dogpiling did cross my mind... I just dismissed it because it seemed like Mareon had dropped the draft and left, like they had done with the ATT thread.

Yeah the Mario Pissing thing implied some precedent. That's fair. But either way the OP was flaming out about queer erasure, not making a parody or something.

Re princess panda trope: When the object of humiliation and ridicule is not participating or responding, that implies the mockery is "laughing at" rather than "laughing with."

Also since when are "troll tlps" allowed?

I still don’t know how this got so bad in so little time. I thought we were better than this, but clearly we aren’t. There’s nothing stopping us from just forgetting this and doing it all over again.

Who knew my early bomb would lead to such a mess?

Partly, I think it was the realization that (barring mod intervention, which possibility I don't recall being mentioned at the time) the draft was going to stick around for three days anyway no matter what we did, so it kinda felt like vandalizing the condemned building.

From what I've seen of this thread, most of us tropers that participated have been nothing but repentant of their actions, and trying to make sure it doesn't happen again. This simply was an unprecedented situation, and a lot of us just got mob mentalitied into it.

I dunno, I've learned to avoid doing lots of things without feeling like a bad person for having done them in the past.

It's entirely possible for people to recognize what they did was wrong and rectify it without torturing themselves.

I've been saying this since the first page of this thread and I'll say it again if I have to. What we did wasn't good but we can keep our heads high and learn from it with dignity. This isn't the end of the world or the end of TV Tropes, just a few steps back that can be remedied with time, so let's go and do that instead of feeling bad about ourselves.
