My Hero Academia - Manga Spoiler thread (Untagged spoilers)

After watching him lose an eye fighting Hood, Endeavor getting impaled isn't that much a surprise. If anything it was expected he'd get seriously injured in this fight. Bakugo getting that impaled however was less likely to be expected.

Side note, but that shot of Tomura consumed in flames after impaling Endeavor makes him look way too much like AFO's silhouette.

I still can't get over Shiggy's durability; Prominence Burn reduced Hood to ash, and even with his cells burned completely off, Shigaraki is still fighting.

Makes you wonder what can kill him.

Given that Bakugo is having tons of flashbacks to his childhood with Deku, how likely is it that Hori actually kills him off?

Nux Taku (The anituber who jokingly made a Bakugo Dies report in the vein of fellow anituber Tokyosaurus's videos) is gonna have a field day with the impaled Bakugo. XD

So a summary of the chapter from spoil pics.

Chapter title: Katsuki Bakugo: Rising.

• Deku's doing everything he can to keep Shigaraki in the air, and his last attack more or less destroyed his right arm.
• Bakugo, Shoto, and Endeavor try to get close for one big attack
• Bakugo reflects back on his past with Deku and how much he tortured him.
• Endeavor grabs Shigaraki and unleashes a full power Prominence Burn, but its still not enough and Shigarki impales him with the same tendrils that Af O uses to forcibly activate Quirks.
• Shigaraki, with his body completely charred, tries to do the same to Deku, but Bakugo pushes him out of the way and takes the attack himself and that's how the Chapter ends.

Eh, anime healing is a thing. Either approach won't be surprising.

Are the quirk activation tendrils that bad?

We don't know if they are specifically quirk activation tendrils or if they're just a normal tendril quirk that can be used for many purposes (like, say, stealing quirks). I'm not exactly sure what they did to Endeavor. Forcible quirk deactivation? Just a nasty stab?

I think people are more concerned at Bakugo's condition after being literally impaled by them.

Given that AFO used them to toss All Might around, it's not just used for forcible quirk activation.

We're clearly heading toward Nothing Is the Same Anymore territory.

If Hori has the absolute brass balls to kill off the deuteragonist and most popular character in the series, I will eat my hat.

But would you eat Compress' hat?

I sorely doubt it. Bakugou still has the hanging plot thread of actually apologizing to Deku on top of his continuing character arc.

Not that it's going to happen, but my guilt over what I did made me sacrifice my life to save you would be a solid substitute for an apology. Maybe. Doesn't really work that well for Bakugo because the real character development would be in owning up to it out loud.

Certainly. Heck, I don't think Deku even cares about an apology at this point and is more happy to be able to speak normally with him without them being at each other's throats.

It's just that Bakugou is the type of person who is working up the courage to say sorry.

I don't think Bakugo needs the courage to say sorry.

Izuku doesn't seem to think he needs an apology, and offering one may cause him to react weirdly or outright reject it. We kinda see a glimpse of this in the Endeavor Internship.

In stead, Bakugo is offering his apology by assisting him. helping him, and thus showing he learned his lessons and that he knows he's wrong, without opening up the possibility that Izuku would reject it.

The tendrils are definitely a separate Quirk than the one that forcibly activates another Quirk.

Probably only direct brain damage can, at this point.

What if this is Shiggy's way of stealing a quirk, thereby leaving Bakugou quirkless after he finally reflected on how he always used to bully Deku for his quirklessness? Then Bakugou gets the arc of being a true hero with no quirk that everyone expected for Midoriya in the first chapter.

Also, Shouto still needs to do something to justify his presence here. Maybe he'll be the one who has to spirit away the injured Deku and dying Bakugou, leaving behind the pros to Uncertain Doom.

Eh, doubtful. All For One and Shiggy both have holes in their palms specifically for stealing Quirks.

Plus, you can't be a hero without a Quirk. That's what All Might specifically tells Deku in the very first chapter. If Bakugou loses his Quirk, that's it. No more hero work for him.

Mirio had to take time off because he can't do the things he once could with his Quirk, and the only reason he has any hope at all is because of Eri.

Well, Shouto is currently following Endeavor into the air to help, so we'll see.

Think there's too much going on to really expect Shoto to do something of significance here.

He could try to freeze Shiggy the way he did the Nomu at USJ or Chimera during the movie.

On the other hand, he is about the only guy not grievously injured on the Hero side. So, retreats or further attacks will sorely need him.

Maybe a good frying followed by freezing could do something.

Narratively, there needs to be a reason why he showed up. Whether to dive in to provide a rescue, end up with Deku and Bakugou if they somehow end up getting stuck separated from the rest of their classmates, or even potentially to witness his dad's death (though that will probably be at the hands of Dabi, so I doubt it).

Then why can't Bakugo have Eri's help too if he becomes Quirkless?

And what All Might said was way long before we discover Eri's Quirk, anyway.
