The fact that they apparently met with her to ask her back while also insisting she retract certain things she said only made it worse for Spyglass. Every choice they're making now is wrong.

I love this series and don't want to abandon it. Dumb stuff like this isn't helping though.

Also, Chris Landon made the right decision and I applaud him for it.

Came back to say, in fairness to Melissa Berrara, while I'm at best indifferent to her firing for responding to the situation between Israel and Palestine, I'm hearing now that Mark Ruffalo just apologized for sharing false images on Twitter.

I've noticed he's an outspoken social media poster too and, honestly, if Marvel decided to drop him I'd be slightly disappointed, but I wouldn't be surprised. Whether their comment is wrong or right, its an obvious risk that brings unneeded attention to whatever brand or label or company they're a part of.

Mel Gibson and Clint Eastwood getting a side glare.

Firing might be harsh but I think its part of a celebrity's reality.

I am rewatching Scream 2 and Mickey is such an underwhelming reveal because he is not really built up.

Yeah I can feel that. At times, he can feel like Stu 0.5.

It's definitely awkward considering he essentially disappears from the movie for a good while before that.

Mickey not being the most impressive reveal is more than evened out by how UTTERLY INGENIOUS the reveal of the other killer is.

Also while I think it goes against the spirit of the character, I would be fascinated if they brought Jill back and made her more of an Anti-Villain. Can't say I'd be for it though. I'd at least be willing to give it a chance frankly.

I asked Grace Randolph her thoughts on the whole situation during a recent stream and I think she was purposely dodging the question. She's probably thinking it's too radioactive a topic to comment on. Can't blame her for thinking that.

Really hoping everyone else opts out of the movie too until Melissa is accepted back on her terms. If they lose Roger L. Jackson and they don't have his voice recorded with AI, they lose probably the most important person at this point.

I am probably not going to watch. I don't trust the studio at this point. I wish Neve nothing but the best though.

I wonder how they'll pivot back to Sidney story-wise, and if Chad and his sister will be in it.

Yeah, unfortunately I just can't feel good about watching this after what happened. But good for them.

Edit: Though I do wonder if there's gonna be an explanation for Sam and Tara being gone. Seems this isn't a reboot. Then again, I guess motive is pretty Ghostface-dependent so they could always just ignore them by having them have no reason to care about them.

Interesting that Kevin Williamson is directing a movie for the first time in twenty-five years. I wonder if he took the job because he's the only one who could get away with it. Or if he was hired because he's the only one who could stoke fan interest without pissing them off more than they already have.

I'm really hoping Neve Campbell and Kevin Williamson both know something we don't—like maybe Spyglass secretly is planning to rehire Melissa once Abigail is successful. If not, I'm really disappointed in anyone involved in making Scream 7 right now. Again, I won't support this movie in good conscience if that's not the case.

I'm really trying not to rant right now. I'm really trying to be objective about this whole situation.

It's not gonna help. The project's radioactive and unless they do the right thing, it's only gonna get worse.

I felt weird with the new trilogy passing the torch to Sam, but it feels weird passing the torch back to Sydney.

Best case scenario somebody up top is privately fired and Sam/Melissa is brought back secretly.

Be hard to argue with that happening too. That would be a good outcome besides the one I suggested.

Spyglass being the production company and not owned by Paramount may mean Paramount doesn't have a say in who they hire or don't or who they fire or don't. Maybe Paramount was told they have to support them or they lose the distribution rights.

I'm honestly not surprised Campbell is returning. Williamson directing, now that throws me for a loop.

I've gotta say, I'll believe the movie will be boycotted by any large group when I see it. My guess is the next Scream will do similar business to the previous ones.

I'm really hoping it does bomb. That will send the right message.

Whether or not I see it, I won't pay for it. It won't get my money.

And no, I'm not gonna sneak in and I'm not gonna pirate it. Want to make that clear.

I don't blame Kevin Williamson for the way Teaching Mrs. Tingle turned out. That had a lot of studio interference too. Haha.

Again, hoping Paramount can find some way to push Spyglass to do the right thing. We really need the right thing to be done here or else the work suffers for it. This franchise deserves way better than to have a movie made just to keep the brand alive—and I hope that can be achieved.

I... said I was going to see the last Scream in theaters last time, and I didn't. Probably going to happen with this one too honestly.

The last day or so since this news dropped... I'm REALLY hoping the backlash is so strong that no one involved thinks it's worth it. This is a franchise that thrived on being smart about both its writing and its presentation and the idea that they threw their lead away over politics—and just continue to double-down on that decision—is nauseating.

Someone I follow on Twitter had the theory of Spyglass using the news to try to undercut Abigail. If so, that's awful.

I don't think the flames of anger are as high as we'd hope. Most of the social media I've seen seems excited to have a new Scream movie with these peeps involved; sure, some folks are pissed, but not nearly as many as when Barrera was fired to begin with.

Most of what I have seen is anger. I have seen few exited but that could just be my experience, as I haven't been active lately.

I don't think the casting issues really became main stream enough to effect the box office. Most people probably won't even realize Melissa and Jenna aren't in the movie (or that Neve is) until the trailers/posters start showing up.

It's a pretty big story with pretty big backlash behind it. Barber met with Melissa twice after with how much of a negative reaction the news got, so there you go. Jenna being on the rise—or having been—definitely got attention when she announced shortly after that she was leaving, so again, neither one being out is nothing certainly.

This movie isn't coming out anytime soon, few people are going to maintain any level of anger over it until that point. It'll die down and the movie will get released without a hitch barring anything else happening.
