I was wondering where I heard of Dune before. Then that sand worm showed up and scared me.

It looks good. At least visually, it nails it right on the head. Obviously trailers may not reflect the final product, but it's a hell of a first look

I agree that it looks good. The color scheme is kind of throwing me off because it’s so...bland. I get that the story of Dune is bleak and all, but damn.

Still, the visuals, the action, the cinematography, and especially the cast all look pretty top notch.

The main quadrilogy as a whole is worth checking out, building up to God-Emperor of Dune, which is an absolutely brilliant book. Weird as fuck on so many levels, but it pulls it off incredibly well.

So did Battlefield Earth steal the nostril breathing apparatuses from Dune it was it the other way around?

Well, Dune was published about 17 years earlier, so there's that.

I have a hard time believing that anyone would steal anything from BFE, but that would have been funny. evil grin

Anyway, this looks good. Just not a fan of Chalamet’s sligtly mumbly delivery in the narration.

Popping in here to say that this looks awesome. I'm really excited for it. I've been keeping the knowledge that a new film was coming in the back of my mind without any real hopes that it would actually happen or be any good. The David Lynch film remains a favorite of mine, not for its quality but for its casting and aesthetics. Every time I reread the novels I have those actors and those visuals in my mind. It's going to be hard to replace them.

It also helps make the blue eyes pop more. There was absolutely no focus on them in the trailer, but they were still obvious, and that's good.

I'm very excited for this. All the Denis Villeneuve films I've seen, I really like and this looks visually stunning.

Considering his last two, I'm excited to see how this turns out. Heard good things about both Blade Runner and Arrival.

Having seen this trailer, I'm even more skeptical about Part 2 having a different director...

Wait, part 2 has a different director? Why would they do that? This adaptation is going to have enough trouble being split in two in the first place.

That might change once production actually starts, but yeah, as of right now, Jon Spaihts is set to direct Part 2.

According to Wikipedia, it looks like the sequel hasn't been greenlit yet, but it seems like he's going to do both of them. Spaights is just the writer.

How much does the film need to make in order to be greenlit for a sequel.

More than BR49, that’s for sure. =[

Joke aside, I think the standard measure to be considered profitable is "twice the production budget domestically"?

I’m noticing some things absent from the trailer that had better be in the film. No spice, no Navigators. No Jessica, more importantly. Guess they have to go with the very basics first.

Edit: well, there is a hint at the spice, but nothing stated out loud. It was a metaphor for oil dependence in the novel, so maybe WB is leaving that for later.

Spice is a central part of the premise, from what I get, so I’m not sure how they could leave that out.
