Hmmm after watching episode 8, I assume this big tiger boy is Rei and he's crazily obsessed with Lum and creeped her out? This is a rhetorical question, to be clear.
On the episode itself, eh.
If nothing else, Ataru isn't boring. I've always thought that's at least some of what Lum sees in him.
so, given Rei, is it any wonder Lum grabbed onto Ataru instead?

This episode was the weakest so far. Rei isn’t that interesting of a character and Ataru’s mom falling in love with him is pretty gross. But I do like his relationship with Ran.
We are the best friends, we stand as one. Whatever life may bring, we are never alone.Hated this episode. Not only disliked, hated. Rei sucks.
He has that effect on *all* women, except Lum, you might notice. The mom falling for him is just that effect.
Rei does indeed suck. If you had to choose between Rei and Ataru, who would you pick?
Someone who will cheat on you without fail Vs someone who the sheer act of attempting to have an intelligent conversation is a waste of time are Hella options.
Well Rei is hot at least
I absolutely cannot help but adore handsome 2D boysThat's the whole point; you're not supposed to like Rei. Rei is hot, but he's a complete self-centered dope and he sucks. He was Takahashi's way of showing the girls acting idiotic over a pretty face, the same way all the boys acted idiotic over Lum. She accomplished the same thing in better fashion when she introduced Mendou, who in the comics showed up after Rei (when Mendou and Rei meet, it's established that Rei is prettier than Mendou). Rei's being a vapid moron is a feature rather than a bug.

Lum.
Yeah if I recall Rei was introduced really early, but he does not show up that often cause he's very stupid and has no personality outside of it, and so only works well in a few scenarios.

He's more useful storywise once Ran is introduced. but even then only as Ran's object of desire.
As Lum doesn't seem to have her head turned by a pretty face, one wonders how she got engaged to Rei in the first place. She appears to not be able to stand him; she's not neutral about him, either, she violently dislikes him.

Man, my memories of anime Rei have already dimmed by the decades, but I remember my visceral reaction to him in the manga; I didn't like him. Even his tiger gag was not funny.
A lot of characters in Urusei Yatsura exist only for one-note gags or to be someone's Satellite Love Interest. A lot.

Oissu! The next season OP has been leaked
attempts to put it on YouTube have either been silenced or taken down except for some sound-distorted versions. I have a twitter link, but as its official release is later today (Jan 3), I'll just wait
thought it looks like my least favorite UY character is coming this cour. Ten, Lum's toddler cousin.
They turned Ten into a squeeky toy. I expected to be annoyed at him like in the manga, but I keep chuckling at his sound effects, so its an improvement(?), I guess.
Sidenote, I like both the new intro and outro, but I can't decide if I like them better than their predecesors. What do you people think?
The previous OP was more of a bop, but the new ED is more my speed.
Ten is just another slightly annoying addition to the cast. Would have probably been more annoyed with the kid if Ataru had not been positively gross this episode. Seriously, what a piece of shit.
Episode 13: Not sure why the off-campus snacking was such a big deal, but the battles fought over it was amusing. Hope we see more stuff like that.
So is Ten gonna be like Doraemon now and pull out weird gadgets that throw everything into chaos?
Back when I was in high school, it was right next to the one main block of businesses in my home town, so sneaking off campus to get something to eat was a constant thing. The little cafe upped their minimum order from $1 to $2 (I'm old) to discourage students from taking up all the seats.
Shinobu was so ready to be a homewrecker and make Tusbame break some laws the moment the ball told her, eh? Actually, I wonder, why would Tsubame be her worst option? (I'm pretty sure Rei is a worse partner for everyone but Ran).

I mean I get that the teachers wouldn't like students going off campus, it's just weird to me that it's specifically the snacking they're cracking down on.
Maybe Rei doesn't even count as a romantic option.
Episode 15: Rei is in it and that automatically docks it a hundred points.
Ran has it rough with Lum hahaha.
Ran's mom was less harsh than in the original
We are the best friends, we stand as one. Whatever life may bring, we are never alone.x4: Rule of Funny. It's less funny if everyone got Rei.
Oissu!New episode, and Ryuunosuke is here, and I hope you find her gimmick funny, because the entire episode is dedicated to it (the father is as annoying as he was in the manga, maybe even more so).
Next Week we find out exactly why Lum was so eager to accept Ataru's "Marriage" Proposal. Any why she sticks with him though his infidelities.
