on the other hand, that usually means they went massively over budget..

New theme music also a boxOh, wow, Shadar Logoth looks good! ^_^
My Games & WritingIt’s Amazon, they probably got a huge budget.
I really have nothing to complain about in the cast. If pressed, I'd say that Mat and Rand seem a little too pretty-boy, but that may just be when they're not in character (publicity head-shots are frequently glammed up), and even then it's not too bad.
The only thing I don't like is that Rand is too short, but I realize that 'find me a 6'6 ginger who's built like a farmer' is probably basically impossible.
Outlander had basically the exact same dilemma. Apparently they tried to find someone for a year and eventually just threw their hands up in the air and cast someone who could play the part but maybe didn’t look quite the part.
Not Three Laws compliant. So did the Expanse. The actress for Bobbie Draper is like 8 inches too short, but the casting directors basically said 'if a 6'5 Polynesian woman exists, she's not an actor' and just did the best they could.
The network there apparently spent the whole casting period saying “you don’t need to cast a Polynesian woman, you know that right? We’d be fine if you cast a black woman or a white woman or whatever.” But the casting people didn’t give up.
Frankie Adams might technically be too short, but she’s otherwise completely perfect for the role.
Not Three Laws compliant. The height thing doesn't bother me so much, but Rand does have to look significantly different from the other Emond's Fielders, enough so that a single glance would tell you he's different from the others. Given their choices for Perrin, Nyneave, Egwene, and Mat, I'd say they managed that.
And we have a teaser trailer! ^_^
Suffice it to say that I am rather enthused! ^_^
The one thing that does feel odd is that we never seem to get a clear look at a trolloc. They're present—but seemingly always in the background or the gloom.
That said, if the trollocs are poorly-done but the rest is good, then I'm fine with that!

My Games & WritingI do think its funny that this trailer manages to not even hint at what the plot of the story is, who the characters are, or what they're like. A+ vagueness.
Looks quite good, though as someone who has only read the first novel a few years ago, I agree that this is pretty vague on pretty much everything.
Children of Dievas - my webcomic about the Northern CrusadesIn all fairness, it is a teaser trailer: it's meant to merely, well, tease.
I do agree that you're right about its vagueness—here's hoping that we get a fuller trailer a little further on!
My Games & WritingIt needs to. If you aren't already familiar with the books, this teaser is just 'here's some fantasy looking people. Woman do magic. Swords.' I'm definitely glad they put out those cast photos, because it's kind of hard to tell who's who the way this is edited.
Watch right-wingers get all in a huff cuz "WIMIN IMPORTUNT?!"
I would say that that's more the work of a full trailer than a teaser.
I'm not even sure that teasers are intended to (by themselves) pull in new audience members, but rather to build hype in those already aware of the project. (Who may, in turn, then tell others.)
My Games & WritingYeah, blockbusters have done a number on the teaser trailer for big IP (see: that No Way Home "teaser"), but this on point for what should be teaser content: give you an idea of what the show looks like and what it's about.
It almost feels like the release has snuck up on me despite having followed it pretty much since the rumors in 2017, now its only a few months away.
Really curious to see how much they end up showing weaves. I know its likely going to be expensive to have them use it too much.
But that's why I'm excited to see if they will cheat a bit by showing the POV of non-channelers to increase the amount of the One Power they can show.
The only thing that really stood out to me in the trailer as a lot different from my mental picture was the White Tower. In my mind I always thought of it as a lot taller, and more unnatural looking.
Although its been a while since I read the books, so I could be wrong and that's how it was described.
"But if that happened, Melia might actually be happy. We can't have that." - Handsome RobPlease be good. Please be good. Please be good. Please be good. Please be good. Please be good.

A bit before COVID-19 hit my country, I discussed a (then-hypothetical) TV adaptation with a coworker who is also a fan. We figured that at the very least the series would have a lot less padding, because they can just put the clothes on the screen instead of describing them at great length.
Ukrainian Red CrossI also think that the plot will go by much faster than a lot of people expect, since we can't be in the character's heads like in the book, and mental diatribes are like... half the word count of each book?
Unless they go David Lynch Dune with it, which would be a huge mistake.
Not Three Laws compliant.True. It's pretty much a given that the majority of seasons will cover multiple books.
But they might also decide to work at least some of the diatribes into dialogue. I wonder if they'll keep Lanfear's motivation for becoming evil.
Ukrainian Red Cross@ Vampire Buggha: Your post made me laugh out loud when I read it, because you're absolutely right. Think of all the time saved by just showing clothes, rather than describing them, and all the ink and trees saved by just being able to show all the sniffs and sidelong glances and skirt-adjusting.

Nah, it's not unusual for a production to boast that they "Spared no expense!".
