Already have nearly as much announced as there was in the entirety of the winter season

    Upcoming anime

Netflix original:

Some interesting stuff here, but definitely tending towards the more relaxed side of things. Feels more like what I'd expect from your typical winter season

Definitely on my list:

  • Shoumetsu Toshi
  • Sarazanmai
  • Kenja no Mago
  • Fairy Gone
  • Mayonaka
  • Gunjou no Magmel
  • Kabukichou Sherlock (If its aired in spring)

Will consider:

  • 7Seeds
  • One Punch Man season 2
  • Robihachi
  • We Never Learn

I'm alright with this season... Not the best but not the worst either. Just decent but we'll see if the anime of this season truly holds up. Also, you forgot to add Kabukichou and Jimouto Ga Japan on the list

Looking forward to Fruits Basket. Will be hate watching We Never Learn since I love the manga but the anime looks bad. Can't say I'm familiar with anything else on that list and until I see key visuals and hear word of mouth I can't really pick anything else.

Same here, nothing really rings a bell outside of Attack on Titan Season 3.5 and the Jump animes. I'll definitely watch Kimetsu no Yaiba, but not sure I'll bother with We Never Learn outside of the first couple episodes.

Already?

Will watch:

  • Attack On Titan - Is this season 4, or still season 3?
  • One-Punch Man season 2 - Oh yeah, J.C. Staff is also producing this show. What Madhouse did for season 1 will be a Tough Act to Follow, so if J.C. Staff can at least equal Madhouse's quality (having staff who worked on season 1 would be a plus), then I can rest a little easy knowing that One-Punch Man is in good hands.
  • Ultraman - With the sleeper success of SSSS.GRIDMAN, I'm hoping Tsuburaya goes all out for this anime adaptation—despite going the CG route. Hopefully, I can watch it on Netflix where I'm from. (Though I am worried about the April 1 release date. On the bright side, time to update that "Japanizing Beam" meme. [lol])

Now to wait a month or two before the RC preview for more details...

Definitely watching Senko-san. Chihayafuru as well. I don't know what else, I'll wait for previews to come up.

Nothing looks super attention-grabby just yet, I think. I'll have to go through the list later.

It's been fun.

My predictions for spring (It can be wrong so yeah):

  • Top popular animes: One Punch Man, Bokuben, Shingeki no Kyojin, Isekai Quatret, Fruits Basket remake, Bungou Stray Dogs, Senryuu Shoujo, Kimetsu no Yaiba, Sarazanmai and maybe Kono Yo Hate YU-NO
  • Ensemble Darkhorse of the season: Probably Kimetsu no Yaiba, Sarazanmai and YU-NO
  • Most Controversial Anime of the Season: Shingeki no Kyojin season 4
  • Popular Girl: FOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM army will take the storm in Spring.
  • Popular Boy: Maybe either someone from Sarazanmai or One Punch Man
  • Most talked anime of the season: Going to be the S4 of Sn K, One Punch Man will be next, Isekai Quatret comes third and Bokuben will be the 4th.

So yeah... That'll be my thoughts on the debacle

Dunno if Bokuben will be that talked about considering it'll come right after Gotoubun no Hanayome. And let's face it, Hanayome executes its concept much better.

As for SNK… I don't know either, seeing how the first half of Season 3 was utterly ignored.

@Lyendith Right... Well, the reason why I feel Bokuben will become a bit more popular because of well... Fumino.

Yea, that's why I'm actually speculating :P

I very much doubt that anything will generate more discourse than Sarazanmai. Ikuhara shows are serious trips

I assume because of the last few episodes, since it should logically end at volume 22.

Also, it's technically not season 4, but "season 3 part 2". It was delayed due to issues with the production schedule from what I get.

Sarazanmai looks… weird. But the premise doesn't seem that interesting to me. =[

    Preview of sorts
Sequels

Ace of Diamond Act II

Apparently this is distinct from the second season? I hate these naming conventions. In any case, the staff remains the same

Attack on Titan

Part two of season 3. Ugh. Anyway, this is a return to the more standard war against the titans

Bakumatsu: Crisis

I vaguely remember a first season of this existing, and I guess someone must have watched it? New director is less experienced, in any case

Bungo Stray Dogs

This keeps happening. There's a movie but I'm not sure if it's required watching

One-Punch Man

So they changed the studio and a bunch of the staff. This might be much worse!

Operation Han Gyaku Sei Million Arthur 2nd Season

I feel like this show might have been watchable if they hadn't split the budget for two seasons

Theatrical recompilations

Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin

It's extra backstory for the original Mobile Suit Gundam. I'm not sure how meaningful this'll be to non-fans

King of Prism: Shiny Seven Stars

I think this is separate from the existing two films, but it'll still be released in theaters first?

Zoku Owarimonogatari & Monogatari Series Selection

First there's six episodes of previous series, despite none of the arcs being short enough for that to makes sense, then the main event. Said main event is an epilogue to the series. I hear it's well enough written, but fairly slow... and I for one am perfectly happy with the ending as it stands

Anime originals

Fairy Gone

Badass artwork and interesting premise, at least. The director's done some popular stuff but hasn't worked on a show like this before, and the writer is the Grimgar guy, which... I liked the anime but hear it's kinda different from the novels? So, uh, has potential

Also, good chance of Netflix doing a surprise license

RobiHachi

Sci-fi buddy comedy. Probably some fujoshi-bait. Director has a solid resume, but I'm a bit worried the writer, who hasn't done all that much

Sarazanmai

So after incest penguins and lesbians bears we get gay kappa. Kunihiko Ikuhara is weird. So, expect a dramedy where it's impossible to tell whether or not large portions of the story are metaphorical. Also, it looks like the backgrounds are live-action footage for some reason

Netflix territory

7 Seeds

Based off a well-received shoujo survival manga. Concerns include the manga being 35 volumes loooooooong and all released visuals thus far looking like shit

Carole & Tuesday

I guess it's a music-themed drama... on Mars. Been getting some buzz since the genuinely excellent director Shinichiro Watanabe is involved... but he'd the chief director, which tends to be an advisory position

It's in the same block as revisions, but I think it's going to be dumped on Netflix some time after it's finished in Japan

Ultraman

Another locally big series trying to break out internationally. I don't really like the style, but the staff is solid enough and the story isn't raising any red flags

Other new stuff

Fruits Basket

So this is happening. The first anime was a pretty big deal back in the day, popular for being funny, well made, and aimed at girls. The original author hated it. So this anime starts from the beginning and has entirely new cast and staff on the Japanese side (Funimation is keeping as much of English side the same as they can). If you're only familiar with the previous anime, it should be noted that the original manga isn't as funny and ends up moving hard towards melodrama. If you're not familiar with the series at all... it's a shoujo manga

Gunjou No Magumeru

The title location is generally romanized as "Magmel" or "Magmell", but the website has "Magumeru", so that's what I'm going with. Anyway, it's a shounen adventure manga. Like, the "helping adventurers" premise makes it sounds like it'd lend itself more to "day in the life" type stories, but the protagonist can help others because he's super-strong, and monster-fighting features heavily

Hachigatsu no Cinderella Nine

One of those "cute girls doing an activity" shows. Character archetypes are recognizable from their designs. Might be worth watching, probably won't be anything unique

If you feel like you've heard of it before, you're thinking of Princess Nine, which is unrelated beyond general concept

Hitoribocchi no OO Seikatsu

Cute girls doing cute things. Manga is super-heavy on the moe, but it's always hard to tell where the anime adaptations will go

Kenja no Mago

Is isekai. By all accounts, fairly middle-of-the-road, but at least avoids a lot of the problematic elements endemic to the genre

Kimetsu no Yaiba

Shounen battle manga. The parts I've read had a more low-key, gritty feel to them then is typical, though I don't know if that lasts. Seems pretty decent, anyway, and with ufotable animating this is guaranteed to look good

Kono Oto Tomare!

Shounen drama. Tends toward big emotions. I don't care for it, but plenty of others do

Kono Yo no Hate de Koi wo Utau Shoujo YU-NO

So this is an adaptation of the first grand-scale sci-fi mystery VN. A landmark of the genre, highly rated in Japan, and released in 1996. So it comes off as kinda cliche to modern audiences. Worse, it's pretty openly being made for existing fans, and there's skepticism around it's stated goal of fitting the whole thing into 26 episodes

Mayonaka no Occult Koumuin

???? I have not had the opportunity to read the manga, nor have I encountered anyone who has. But, uh, josei urban fantasy. Looks like it'll have some action, but also focus on the relationships between it's (pretty, male) characters

MIX

Technically a sequel to TOUCH, but with a 26 year gap I doubt knowledge of the latter is required. So, this is an adaption of a baseball manga. An Adachi manga, at that. I expect it'll be highly praised by the two dozen non-Japanese people that watch it

Namu Amida Butsu!: Rendai Utena

Gacha trash! Features good design work and too many characters to tell a compelling story

Nande Koko ni Sensei ga!?

So it's basically a bunch of comedy sketches where a male student gets in an erotic situation with a female teacher (there's four pairs). Has that loud, reaction based sense of humour you see a lot in shounen manga. This strikes me something that should be shorts, but I don't think it is

Sewayaki Kitsune no Senko-san

Domestic comedy about a salaryman and his cute fox not-wife. It's alright. Something to relax with

Shoumetsu Toshi

It sounds interesting at first, but then you hear that it's based on a mobage. Then you notice the ridiculous size of the cast list. Then the dubious animation. This probably won't be good

We Never Learn

Harem romcom, low on fanservice. What stood out to me the most about it is that it took a while for the most popular characters to show. So, keep that in mind if you're interested in it

Shorts

Araiya-san! Ore to Aitsu ga Onnayu de!?

Local smut shorts. I don't think these get subbed, so I wouldn't worry about it

Chou Kadou Girl 1/6: Amazing Stranger

I'm told this is a romantic comedy and it involves a male otaku and animate figures of scantily-clad anime girls (who are animated in 3D)

Cinderella Girls Gekijou: Climax Season

Keep watching it if you're liked it so far, I guess

Isekai Quartet

A comedic, SD crossover of Konosuba, Overlord, Re:Zero, and Youjo Senki. Been getting some attention despite the fact that I've yet to encounter anyone that likes all four series. Has the staff of the Overlord Pleiades shorts, if that means anything to you

Jimoto ga Japan

So it's a delinquent-themed comedy about Japanese prefectures, I guess? Not sure this'll get subbed

Joshi Kausei

Cute girl doing cute and kinda weird things without talking. It's okay? Might be good to unwind with

Midara na Ao-chan wa Benkyou ga Dekinai

I found this one weird. It's a comedy about sex, but not really that risque, and it's shounen but looks like it'll be a reverse harem?

Nobunaga-sensei no Osanazuma

So it involves a (time-traveling) 14-year-old who wants to get impregnated by a middle school teacher, and it looks like he'll be getting a harem that includes his students. If this was full-length it'd set off a firestorm

Senryuu Shoujo

Uh, pretty standard 4koma fair, just less gay than usual

Strike Witches: 501-butai Hasshin Shimasu!

CGDCT with the Strike Witches cast, I guess

Yatogame-chan Kansatsu Nikki

Anime is being handled by the same guy as NTR, To-Lie-Angle, Miss Bernard said...

Thoughts

  • Wow, that is a lot of shorts
  • There's also a bunch of kids stuff that I don't care about and don't expect to get subbed
  • The amount films turned into TV series is weird
  • So it's either an abnormally small series or fairly average depending on how you look at it

Nothing next season really interest me beside We Never Learn(still follow the manga) and Fruit Basket( i watched the 1st anime). Kinda boring season.

E.T technically is a Isekai movie

I'm more or less looking forward to Fairy Gone, Sarazanmai, and Kimetsu no Yaiba. I plan on checking out Robi Hachi, Carol and Tuesday, Ultraman, Magumeru, Cinderella 9, Hitoribocchi, Kenja no Mago, YU-NO, and Occult Koumuin. Might look at Shoumetsu Toshi if I'm bored or it turns out to be interestingly bad. This is on the low side by my standards, so, yeah, small, bland season
