Hachi is only A Fudo Myoh...
Watch SymphogearJust as Daruma has a tiny dagger sized portion of Yasha's soul to pull out when shit hits the fan, I'm sure that is only a small piece of Kala's soul that he gifted to Ata.
Welp, I can't say I'm entirely surprised, but that's a bummer.
I wonder if Kishimoto and Ohkubo will keep working together for their next series…
Well, the writing's has always been in the wall. Hopefully kishimoto can make something better next time.
Ehhhhhhhhhh. Ive had time to accept that the series was not well received so.
Samurai 8 got cancelled by Jump
E.T technically is a Isekai movieIm fine with this. The ending surprisingly came together quite well.
Don't you see Hachimaru, the box was in you all along
Joke aside. What do you think the reasons why this series failed are?
E.T technically is a Isekai movieToo much exposition, overly cluttered artstyle in the early chapters, unclear stakes… it's not too hard to see why. The story simply started on the wrong footing, and that can be fatal in this kind of magazine.
This last chapter gives me hope though, despite all the potential that was left unexplored − like the other keys (seems like Sanda was one too?) or the story of Daruma's Princess, or the whole exploration aspect.
Ann was quite dashing in that last page, I must say. <3
I think another issue is too much made up words. Like you won't need much exposition if you named some of the concept more easy to understand. Key holder = mount/ship. Samurai key = samurai core/soul/spine. Also it seem like a miss opportunity to have an MC who never leave his house not learn more about the outside world and most worlds they visit look so much alike, defeated the point of having a space adventure.
E.T technically is a Isekai movieEh, there were only 2 full story arcs before the series was cancelled so we only had 2 location: a peaceful country side and a deserted robot scrapground. I'm sure we would have seen more creatures and aliens and varied locations had the series continued
So Hachimaru's ultimate fate is to become a box.
Pretty dang hilarious all things considered.
Crap ending but it was rushed to all Hell so can't exactly hold that against them.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."And a space mall. But yeah, you can't exactly show off a big and diverse world in five volumes.

looking at Eden Zero
E.T technically is a Isekai movieThat's what fast pacing & hitting it out of the gate will get ya.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."I'd watch/read an actual sequel starring Samurai Princess Anne though.
She had a swag level of 100 in that ending shot for her. She looked so freaking cool.

"You can't change the world without getting your hands dirty."You trust Kishimoto to write a female character?
We're lucky he didn't botch Ann the way he did his last lead female. The fact that he didn't have time doesn't count in my mind. He's shown he can botch that right from the get-go.
One Strip! One Strip!Too bad he didn't get to write Daruma's master or Ichigo… well, at all, really. That scarred Key girl looked pretty cool too.
The fact it was bland as dishwater for the genre probably didn't help. Shonen battle manga have come a long way since the late 90's and 00's when you saw all the Dragon Ball imitators get serialised - many of them better than Dragon Ball, but many worse. Kishimoto is a mangaka of that era, and it shows - manga like KnY, Promised Neverland and MHA have iterated again upon the formula that was codified by that post-DB generation and moved the genre forwards to new heights. Samurai 8 is stuck in late 90's and early 00's and wouldn't even be considered stand-out even back then.
"...in the end the Shadow was only a small and passing thing: there was light and high beauty for ever beyond its reach."But Sarada is cool. ; )
Going off what I just said, he's done it decently enough once when he made Sarada Uchiha the protagonist of Scarlet Spring Gaiden.
I don't know if it was because Sarada was an Uchiha or the protagonist or because Kishi just went with the mindset of basing Sarada off Sasuke so he didn't have to think of how to build a female character from nothing.
So maybe a miracle can happen twice or something.

"You can't change the world without getting your hands dirty."Ann looked amazing in almost every panel she was in. No doubt that she's going to be kicking Kala's teeth in soon.
Kishi didnt botch Ann at all. He was also doing great with Nanashi (if we're counting transgender females as females). He can write a female character well just like he can draft a plot that is free of holes and foreshadow twists in advance. Making mistakes with Naruto (which he has admitted to) doesnt make him terrible.
This last chapter worked so well (for me and others) because it was the culmination of a ton of buildup. Kishi clearly knew how he wanted to tie things together and all of the dialogue and themes were building together....he did say he didnt want to use his Naruto "envision the last scene then wing it til you get there" approach.
Hachi understanding that physical death isn't spiritual death through Anne's brother's created name being used by other nameless orphans, one of whom happened to come to Hachi's aid? That sort of thing is awesome and not something Kishi just threw out there for a quickie ending.
@Golden Kaos: curious, what did you find in the series that marked it as being 20 years too late?

Looks like the end is nigh. =[ Unless it's just the point where shit gets real.
Now I can't help but be amused at the Big Bad Kala's tiny blade.
