TAG SPOILERS THAT HAVEN'T BEEN REVEALED IN THE ANIME YET

so episode 10 of the anime dropped recently and we got to see how Touko lost her sister, which was revealed in episode 6. we also got the reveal that Touko feels like an empty person. i gotta say, coupled with the reveal in episode 6, Touko seems like a mess, a mess that hopefully get fixed. I'm really enjoying this adaptation, it's up there with Bunny Girl-senpai as Anime of the Season

I'm really liking it so far. Touko is all kinds of messed up, though; Yuu certainly picked a difficult partner.

It's been fun.

There's a thread now? Finally, this show has been so positive...seeing other people's opinions is the only thing that was missing.

I've only watched some of the episodes of the anime, but I'm an avid follower of the manga. Which, if any of you like the anime and haven't read the manga, I highly recommend.

Yeah, the bigger ones tend to be weekly.

Anyway, I'm caught up now (though there should be a few chapters out that aren't translated yet) and, oh boy.

It's been fun.

Sayaka is really climbing up the 'Best Girl' list, especially after episode 7, i hope the light novel about her gets translatedgrin

I'm glad to see Yuu and Sayaka working their relationship out, honestly. I really disliked Sayaka in the earlier episodes, for reasons I'm not sure I could put into words, but I like her more now that she seems to have accepted Yuu... not so much as a rival, perhaps, but as someone who also has a place near Touko. And while Touko and Yuu are all but guaranteed to end up together, my trash polyshipper ass would be delighted to see Yuu/Touko/Sayaka as the endgame.

It won't happen - these baby gays are having more than enough trouble figuring out a relationship with two people, let alone three - but I think it could be cute.

It's been fun.

(copy-pasting my reaction from the Fall 2018 thread)

Yep, the episode was amazing in its direction. I don't think I've ever seen an anime use silence as effectively as this one. You could feel both the sexiness and the sheer pressure Touko was putting on Yuu… the vocal performances in general were particularly stellar in this ep. Also, covering up the word "suki" just in sync with "baka" was simple but brilliant.

Really, as an adaptation it's been pretty much flawless… I had small complaints in the first one or two episodes, but after that the directing, sound design and voice acting kept improving with each episode. Some hiccups with the animation here and there, but even that aspect was generally solid.

I'm a bit surprised there's still one episode left, as this seemed like the closest thing to a "good spot" for ending a season.

Also, for diabetes' sake.

Yeah, that episode was just amazing. Major props to the voice actresses, the composition, the music... that sequence felt intimate enough in the manga, and then they took it to a whole new level.

I will say, knowing (spoilers for volume 6 on of the manga) that Touko does almost immediately realize that she was putting a whole lot of pressure on Yuu by indulging herself so much and accepting the whole 'I'm not in love with you' story at face value. So credit to her for that.

More manga spoilers. Now that Yuu has accepted that if it looks like a duck, quacks like a duck, kisses you with tongue in the equipment shed, and makes you feel lonely when you might not see the duck for a few days, it's love... now it's down to Touko. She has gotten over her 'be like Mio' kick fast, which I attribute to Koyomi's play therapy, but she still has a host of self-esteem and self-image issues. I think those, and Sayaka's feelings for her, will make up a big chunk of the chapters we have left.

The newest chapter should be on sale in bookstores on the 27th, so I'll be sure to grab it then. There's also an anthology on sale the same day featuring a number of other manga artists drawing, quote, "special what-ifs" for the series, so that looks good too.

Anyway, can't we just have a Yuu/Touko/Sayaka ending...?

some people on reddit noticed the similarities between Kaede's arc in Bunny Girl-senpai and Touko's arc in Bloom Into You, as well as the school play really making the similarities clear. [lol]

quite the coincidence to have these shows tackling the same subject at the same time

That, plus the last few episodes of Zombieland Saga. tongue

[up][up] Fanfic writers probably got you covered already. Or Canno might tackle that in her Yagakimi Anthology contribution (considering she did a polyamory arc in her own manga). X)

^^Oh! That's something to look forward to. I know it'll never happen in the main story, but Sayaka's grown on me over the series and I don't want her to be alone at the end either.

It's been fun.

Every time I read Bloom Into You, I feel so happy that someone with an art style I really, really like decided to draw yuri.

I'm looking forward to getting the anthology; it should be a good way to get familiar with some other artists. I already know Itou Hachi, but he's recently started going big into age gap stuff that I'm not a fan of, so.

At least his art style should be nice and fluffy for Touko and Yuu.

It's been fun.

Well, the anthology actually dropped a few days early. Here's what we've got.

1: Can I Bloom Into You Someday?, by Hiiragi Yutaka. Yuu and Touko swap clothes.
2: Perhaps A Constellation Like That, by Canno. Primarily Sayaka/Touko on their city date before the study camp.
3: Floating Maiden, by Chomoran. Yuu can float while reading romance manga.
4: Onigiri, Croquette, Tamagoyaki, by Fukuyama Okara. Koyomi forgets her wallet and her bento.
5: Tiny Sempai, by tMnR. Touko shrinks while at Yuu's house.
6: In The Box, by Yuikawa Kazuno. A closed box in the council room preys on Sayaka's worries about Touko.
7: Festival Night, by Mekimeki. Yuu and Touko attend a summer festival in yukata.
8: Let's Write A Script!, by, uh... Ayao Aya? Stupid name. Another Koyomi-centered one, with the student council putting on another play involving Touko in a tuxedo.
9: What Will You Wear Tomorrow?, by Moke. Yuu and Touko go clothes shopping.
10: Bitter Coffee Time, by Hiroichi. This one seems to be about Riko and Maya, and involves a new coffee grinder and after-bath naked makeouts.
11: Let's Play With Sempai!, by Itou Hachi. A short one involving Yuu, Touko and Sayaka playing cards.
12: Secret Student Council, by Tachi. Yuu and Touko get some flirting in during student council hours.
13: Ephemeral, by Hara Yuriko. Yuu and Touko have a talk under sakura petals.

I like the "Floating Maiden" story. Touko's reactions to Yuu floating are hilarious.

Yeah, that one was hilarious. evil grin Though seeing supernatural stuff in Yagakimi is off-putting.

And when I said Canno might write about an OT3… I wasn't that off the mark. tongue Touko×Sayaka teasing aside, there's also a comment that Leo (Sayaka) and Aries (Yuu) have the highest compatibility…

The first story about the uniform-swapping is… sad. Being Yuu is suffering.

#25: Dec 25th 2018 at 4:28:36 PM

^I mean, after I got over my initial gut reaction against Sayaka (mostly due to her being prickly to Yuu and doing what I perceived as gatekeeping access to Touko), I definitely agree that she and Yuu do seem very compatible. We still haven't really seen them interact with their defenses down - nor will we, I think, since Sayaka's always been wary of Yuu as her love rival - but we might be gearing up for an I Want My Beloved to Be Happy confrontation if Sayaka and Yuu manage to bond further over their mutual love for Touko and move on from their kind of cautious mutual acknowledgement. Which would be sad, but there's always hope and fanfic.

I also like how Yuu's name is a Bilingual Bonus for the uniform one. Her name be written as 'has', but she certainly doesn't! (Though I feel like Touko already lampshaded that one in the bath.)
