Person A, in their own location, is going to do something bad, or is about to get into serious danger if not even die. Person B, away from person A in their separate location, knows this and is hurrying to get to person A in time before the bad thing happens to them. The scene advances in a way that the screen frequently cuts between persons A and B, advancing towards their goals and the outcome can very well be either B reaching A in time before the bad thing happens, or in more dramatic cases, it is too late and A has been subdued/killed/etc, usually followed by screams of agony or anger from B.

Is there an existing trope for this?? I couldn't find anything solid despite looking at entries of movies featuring this.

Examples: The Dark Knight, when Batman is racing to Rachel's location before she gets blown up; Disney's Hercules, when Herc is flying on Pegasus towards Meg before her thread of life is cut; The Sleeping Beauty, when the fairy godmothers are trying to find Aurora before she touches the spindle. There's plenty of others, but you get the gist.

i'll be gone when the drugs wear off.

We provide Trope Finder to ask the community whether we have a trope, or what trope an example fits.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"
