Their fault for not being able to handle the protganists in a Villain Protagonist show being awful people.
"I'll show you fear, there is no hell, only darkness." My twitterHe also did mention it in his last video. Albeit briefly, as an example of a video-game isekai people like.
I was wondering about why Geoff feels annoying to me when he is praising anime compared to when he isn't, then on commented about him still liking overlord since he brought it up(its not related to why he feels less genuine when he is being positive, but I didn't realize overlord is still popular in TVT so I thought by jokingly bringing it up as "oh maybe that's why" would be funny) and then it got sidetracked ^_^;
And I legit forgot since spaces where I don't hang out discussing anime as much here anymore

personally, my problem with him is him selling Mushoku Tensei as if it addresses Rudy's pedophilia and grooming, when it clearly doesn't do that (side note: why isn't the YMMV section on Mushoku Tensei a mile long? it seems like there's a lot of stuff that isn't mentioned on the page)
Bumbleby is best ship. busy spending time on r/RWBY and r/anime. Unapologetic SocialistI admit I check out when he's actually praising something because... well, usually it's usually harder to put into words what makes something good and honestly Geoff isn't always good at it. Whether it's something I like or something I don't, watching him praise something often makes me think less of his critical analytical abilities. The former, for example, amounts largely to praising it just by describing it, and the latter had a decent amount of the praise be insisting people just don't get it.
It kinda makes me reconsider whether I really like MB, I like the videos, but do I just like the subject matter? Bad anime roasts are inherently fun and he does them well. Anime praise is a tougher subject and I don't necessarily think he does it poorly, but it's a lot less interesting.
Found a Youtube Channel with political stances you want to share? Hop on over to this page and add them.Honestly, it's just part of my ongoing thesis that anime fan are literally incapable of making the anime they like sound good.
Kaze ni Nare! So, you like his roasts more than his positive videos? That's understandable.
Nach jeder Ebbe kommt die Flut.x4 You'd find certain anime fans being surprisingly flexible in their moral views depending on how much they like the anime. What would be roasting material in cheaply made generic isekai become things they avoid talking about at best, actively defend at worst.
....Or maybe they just like the series. Its not that complicated.
Watch SymphogearWell yes, they do, but the point is they downplay or ignore tonal things in the series they love for its technical execution that would be used to further roast a series that is the same tonally but worse technically.
I.e. Jobless Reincarnation getting creepy with underage girl characters vs Master of Ragnarok getting creepy with underage girl characters.
Exactly. For another example, Seven deadly sins.
Hottest Trash of Winter 2024 just dropped:
TL:DR he calls it a 6 or 6.5/10.
He doesn't love it, except the added bit for the Fire nation cast. His main issue is that it has no reason to exist. For both economic and tone reason the adaptation had to make a ton of sacrifices from the original, leaving you with a lesser product that (except for the aforementioned fire nation bits) ends up inferior to the original, which is almost the same running time and is on the same platform. He compares it to the live action Disney remakes, calling it a slightly better version of that but as unnecessary and pointless. He also talks about the show's use of often dodgy sets or CGI which only serves to make the show interior when standing next to the well made costume and real actors - the animated show, while less detailed, at least has a consistent look.
He says if you are to watch it, you absolutely can and should, but skip the first two episodes.
I don't fully agree with his assessment of live-action adaptations being made for fans who want/need the thing they liked to be live-action so they can re-engage with it as an adult. In my experience that's only ever strongly applied to the live-action Disney remakes and certain Japanese anime adaptations like live-action FMA and Mob Psycho, which reflect the older sentiments of self-conscious Disney adults and the insularity of the anime fandom respectively. More typically while live-action adaptations do expect to have the fandom as a floor (deserved or not) they're also looking to profit from a more casual/mainstream audience that have not and will likely never engage with the original source material otherwise. The Animation Age Ghetto is more than just something cooked up in an executive's office, and even today is frustratingly sticky.
It's understanding the need to be both for fans and for newcomers that makes something like Netflix One Piece so good, and based on how Geoff describes it it feels like Netflix ATLA only somewhat understands the latter. Like it's clearly aware to an extent and trying but as Geoff puts it it's also made by fans pushing for the more "adult" retelling they want the story to be, and IMO it's that original sin that holds it back long before you talk about budget and CGI (because it's that sin that leads to major missteps like fully showing the Air Nomad Genocide and jumping Aang and Sokka's characterization so much ahead).
...So anyways, talking about Hottest Anime Trash of the Winter 2024 Season, literally every single one of those animes feel like they're hot, directionless messes... except the BDSM one. I have not considered Character Development in such... a weird direction, so weird... I can't help but respect it.
Also, oof, hearing Geoff talking about how much Yuri fans struggle to get nice non-baiting anime to watch... how bad are we talking here for Yuri admirers?

Robin: Don't ever ask me to dock with you again. Serious...Not bad at all, really. Geoff's just full of shit.
"I'll show you fear, there is no hell, only darkness." My twitterIt’s better than a decade ago at least, though that’s not saying much.
Flippé de participer à ce grand souper, je veux juste m'occuper de taper mon propre tempo. It depends on what you consider bait? If you're the type that gets angry about relationships not being confirmed to be romantic, it's still a problem. If you only consider it bait if the characters end up in straight relationships instead, things are fine
(looks at Witch From Mercury)
... It's still a problem.

"I'll show you fear, there is no hell, only darkness." My twitterSo there was one good gay show half a year ago and that means gay audience should be done with forever?
There were multiple good gay shows comingbout the past couple years amd are still coming out. And where the fuck did I say "gay audiences should be done forever?"
"I'll show you fear, there is no hell, only darkness." My twitterHonestly I am glad Geoff’s enjoying Bravern. He continues to say a lot of good things about it on Twitter. It’s honestly surprising just how good it is and how it pulls off its plot. Obari really is just that good with Mecha anime and the staff who are also working on it.

Every accusation by the GOP is ALWAYS a confession.
Why is the thread about Overlord when he hasnt even mentioned it in god knows how many videos.
Because someone brought up Overlord to complain that Geoff likes it
